Chickens are cool -- my son and daughter-in-law have many as well -- but the long-suffering Bella seems like a complete sweetheart and wins my heart on this very difficult day.
There will be a ZOOM with Governor Newsom tomorrow, Friday at 4:00PM Pacific.
Subject: Essentially, dealing with the new political environment. The digital meeting will also be on the YouTube Platform.
Separately on 11/7/24 CA Governor Newsom gave notice he is convening a Special Session of the Legislature going about "protecting Californian values, including civil rights, reproductive freedom, climate action, immigrant families and more."

I just learned my Governor in Illinois is doing the same, working with our Attorney General. Thank you for all of this information this morning. The article is in the Chicago Sun Times and should not be behind a paywall this week do to the election.
Thank you for this information. I lived in Berkeley (for college and grad school), then Mill Valley for 30 years. I'm wondering if JB Pritzker will do the same here. I will contact the his office this morning. I will ask my son (who lives in Wisconsin) and my daughter (in Minnesota) about this as well. Tim Walz was the Chair of the Democratic Governors Group but turned this over to Democratic Governor Laura Kelly in August.
In the past 48 hrs I've eaten almost the entire pound of See's Butterscotch Squares that I bought on Monday just in case the election was close. As we all know now, it wasn't even close at the presidential level. But I am grateful for the smaller wins at the state level.
I am so despondent that I'm avoiding almost all media, podcasts and other sources of information. Yours is the only one, outside of email headlines I've read since Sherrod Brown lost (and I lived in OH for 20 years and know what an effective Senator he has been). And then of course everything else that happened since then. It's impossible to feel hope at this point.
I don't live anywhere near Ohio, but I, too, am very distressed that Sherrod Brown lost. Talk about constituents not appreciating him! I feel the same way about John Tester in Montana. We thought we were going to get rid of Ted Cruz, but alas, no. I think that too much of our country has just gone totally bonkers.
I wish Brown would move to a Blue State where he can be re-elected. We really need his good work going after top dog world financial crooks. We have to get Harris back in Congress too!
I have been sleeping less, waking up about 3 am shaking from head to foot as though I have Parkinson's Disease. I have a Personal Trainer here who is also certified in Mindfulness Meditation training. I had that training 25 years ago but need it now more than ever. I will ask her today to recommend podcasts and meditation apps that are soothing, and may help in sleeping better. I've been completely off news of any sort except my Substack subscriptions. I hope you can spend time in nature and away from people who are negative and ranting about the election results.
I doubt that will happen. Biden likes being President. One of his downsides IMHO. I think Mark Twain said it best: "Anyone who WANTS to be President shouldn't be trusted with the office."
The only thing I would enjoy is costing the Trumpers and the GOP a bunch of money to redo their victory hats from #47 to #48.
Right now it's 212 GOP 199 DEM with 24 seats still in play. The GOP leads in 13 of the 24 seats but 6 of those are in CA which were the seats flipped in 2022 which had be the house to the GOP. I am assuming those will split 3-3 which would give the GOP 222 and the Dems 213. Flipping the House is not looking great but still possible.
The silver lining her is that the GOP doesn't look to gain many seats either. This election was NOT the "landslide" some MAGAts are claiming but it wasn't great for the good guys either.
But it does look like a Speaker Jeffries will still be deferred for at least 2 more years. And that assumes of course that we actually HAVE another election in 2026.
(Seriously I don't really think Trump will be able to get rid of elections no matter how hard he tries but at the same time I don't take anything for granted in this "brave new world".
Joyce, your chickens and extended menagerie (but especially the chickens) are a major factor in my sanity these days. They are the best entertainment around - thank you! And sleep well.
The election has drained me of all my energy. But I have a big smile on my face gazing at Cleopatra and her entourage of chickens. What warms me most is Bella allowing one of the chicks to share her couch with her. Now that is a noble creature. Thanks, Joyce.
Only Joyce and her chickens (and Bella, too) could put a smile on my face. Thank you Joyce.

I honestly can't understand why Bella doesn't try out some southern non fried chicken. That dog is a PACIFIST.
I agree with 💯
Same. If ever we needed something to smile about.
Me, too, Monica. Thank you, Joyce, this is just what I needed tonight!
Yes, thank you for the belly laugh, Joyce! Those pics of Bella and Cleopatra were a very welcome distraction. Priceless. Hilarious.
Thank you for the photos, Joyce! Yes indeed, take care of yourself and your family. Rest well.

CA AG Rob Bonta to enforce.
Rob’s wife, Mia, was just elected to Congress, replacing Barbara Lee. Nice people who get stuff done.
Yes. Mia won CA District 18 with 77.8% of the vote!

Linda, thank you very much for that broader political context. 👏🏻
Thanks, read the article. Looks like CA is gearing up for the fight. Makes me feel better and so happy I live here.
Thank you for sharing this info. I will be tuning in. I am a displaced San Franciscan stuck in Fascist Florida.
Snacks ha! I think I’ve gained 6 lbs in 2 days…
Glad I'm not the only one. The stress has caused me to raid my chocolate stash! I need more distractions like Joyce's chickens!

I've lost 5 pounds. I have no appetite.
Yep. Same here.
Have a peaceful evening. You deserve it. Thanks for the chicken & pup.

I heard the amounts spent by the GOP Pacs on Senators Brown and Tester, $110M and $80M respectively, amazing!
I wish Brown would move to a Blue State where he can be re-elected. We really need his good work going after top dog world financial crooks. We have to get Harris back in Congress too!
That's ridiculous, but it shows how "dangerous" really good, caring senators apparently are.

I suggest the Calm app. They have wonderful "sleep stories" to soothe you.
Maybe selfless Joe could step aside and KH would finish his term.
I doubt that will happen. Biden likes being President. One of his downsides IMHO. I think Mark Twain said it best: "Anyone who WANTS to be President shouldn't be trusted with the office."

I don't even know if we flipped the House. Will we have Speaker Hakeem Jeffries?
Have to wait til all votes are counted

I think they will both be working their asses off doing what they can to batten down the hatches of our democracy! They’re a team.
I live in OHIO and am so upset Sherrod Brown lost. Another millionaire "businessman" in the Senate, Moreno will do Trump's bidding. ugh!
Joyce, I love you! You always give me just what I need❤️
Thanks for the dog and chicken friendship— keep relaxing Joyce
Sleep well, Joyce!

Bella is a patient beauty! Rest up!💗
Deep breaths- keep a smile on your heart and thanks. Sweet dreams
Loooove the blow dry 🤗
A chicken, a dog, and a smile...a winning combo! Thanks!
