I have election anxiety syndrome myself. But I exercised my right to vote - in Texas no less - and I feel a little better.

Expand full comment

Me, too. I have figured out that if those of us who want change vote, change can happen. So it's worth voting, even in Texas.

Expand full comment

Your vote really, really, really, counts. You live in a state that is trying with all its might to be purple. You can do something I wish I could do.....vote Cancun Cruze out of office. Thank you!

Expand full comment

Cannot vote there but sent a check to Allred. He is a terrific guy!

Think good thoughts!

Expand full comment

We've been supporting Allred, too! He really has a chance to get rid of that awful Cruz!

Expand full comment

So did I!

Like you I don't live in states that can be changed so I send money to Rueben, Sherrod, Tester ( he is really behind) you get the drift. I'll work on my one state when there is a glimmer of hope. We have one or two here that I su[[ort.

Expand full comment

I have regular donations to Collen Allred, tester, Brown, Rueben and more than I should and this is too important an election to not do all I am willing to do!

I am a repeat donor! I really want him to replace Cruz. I am from Virginia!

Me too.

This morning on Velshi, Ali had charts about early voting in MAGATX before he interviewed Colin Allred. I sent the following to the people of all ages that I know:

A mission: get this info to friends in MAGATX; especially youngsters!

Charts: Early Voting: 3,605,072 Total: 53% R 37% D | 54% Female 46% Male

Ages 16-29: 7% | 30-39: 10% | 40-49: 13% | 50-64: 28% | 65+: 42%

Don’t let old farts take away your rights!

I watched a good part of Velshi, but wasn't paying attention to the early voting charts. I did send in my ballot, all blue. What give me hope is that when Kamala Harris was in Houston last night, she called out to the Gen Z people there, let them know that she sees them. I think that might help to get them to vote. Being seen can have amazing effects on people.

Expand full comment

@ Jason. Gen Z have never voted previously and therefore are probably considered "unlikely" and uncounted by the polls. FT 6 says it has generated 5 million new Democrats in the swing states. MSNBC is not reporting those numbers.

FT 6 texted to 1,210,938 unregistered folk in MI yesterday. BYOB is still registering new Democrats in MI, NC, WI and MT. https://www.fieldteam6.org/free-byop-textbanks

REPRISE:

1. Uncle Sam needs you! https://www.mobilize.us/ (And me.)

2. Please repeatedly post "not suckers or losers" comments in social media. According to Facebook, there are 4 million veterans and active duty members on Facebook, as well as 12.5 million family members and 242 million friends with veterans or active duty members. Military sites, veterans' organizations, historical sites.

Vote vets has already flipped many 2016 and 2020 Trump voters.

3. It's up to people like you who are on social media.... when you comment you'll see what I mean. Many of the people involved are dependents, family members, friends and neighbors who are interested in the military and or national security and for whom this is news. Takes repetition and substantiation by people they trust.

I am a Vietnam combat veteran -- probably the lone survivor from my units. I have been a "veteran" since Jan 21, 1968. The grandchildren (or great-grandchildren) of my late colleagues want to hear from someone like you.

When you post on say a FB history site, you may start a conversation with potential voters who may flip on this basis.... I'm getting a number of positive comments.

4. Mark Cuban reports that Polish Americans for Harris is out and about in Pittsburgh. It started in Pittsburgh....

Agreed! In Texas, we have some important state and local races down ballot and I hope to contribute to unseating a really bad actor. Now that I have voted, I am crossing my fingers and lighting candles…metaphorically, of course.

Yes, I'd like to get rid of the anxiety. But I also want to be watching or checking Threads when it is announced that Kamala and Tim have won. Relief and joy. Actually any way will work. Just to have this done and the country be safe for democracy.

I totally get it. Can’t stay focused on anything. How many times can I watch the same stump speech on MSNBC? She gets my vote and certainly doesn’t need to come up with more than one speech for me.

Beyoncé was a welcome addition to the intro. Just to be clear, I am in it for her to win it. I want her to win lights out…. Go Kamala and Tim!👍

Expand full comment

Well, I guess when you also happen to be a sitting VP, you don't have a lot of time to be extemporaneous. She's a first in a lot of ways. If you have been watching her speeches, you'll notice she listens to the crowd. I especially appreciated "Kamalazoo" and her immediate response of "I heard that!" Put that up against the spewings of the the dithering of the rambling traitorous turd - from the anatomy of a long deceased golfer (envy much?) to vile language directed at the VP, to slandering an entire community in Springfield, Ohio. So I will continue to listen and appreciate the fact that she is the Ginger Rogers of the political world.

Expand full comment

YES! Kamalazoo! I'm a Michigander, and that's a great town - my aunts and uncles lived there, and I have cousins in Portage. Fingers crossed that Michigan turns blue in November.

Michigander here too! Fingers and toes crossed it turns blue!

Now if she just had a handful of mealworms, her polls would skyrocket and we could all go back to watching reruns of our favorite escapist tv programs. I'm certainly ready for that.

Love that! ‘the Ginger Rodgers of the political world’. Another wonderful and perfect image to add to ‘fealty to fowls’ to quell my deep growing anxiety. Thank you Carol, from another

Did y’all hear Michelle Obama’s speech about the need for women’s right to abortion healthcare? If we hadn’t had the right to women’s healthcare I would be dead 55years ago. I was in the hospital as I had started bleeding. I was hemorrhaging in the middle of the night.

They took me into surgery at 3am and did the procedure. The baby was not alive and had stopped its growth. I know have 3children and 3 grandchildren. I have always been grateful for the proper care I was given!!!

Same here -- I start a newspaper article and then I feel 'I can't read another word about Trump' I read a negative poll and put the paper down. I have to find a place inside to keep some optimism alight. Go Kamala and Tim is right!

Isn’t it weird that Trump actually capitalized Rape and Incest?

Perhaps because they are 'capital crimes'. ; )

Now that is funny

Why would he capitalize crimes he has committed? 🧐

Because CAPS are bigger than non-caps. He has only one measure of absolutely everything.

I assume someone else composed it. His vocabulary isn't that large and his sentence formation no longer holds together that well.

Maybe, but I bet he read it. Those two words being capitalized ought to jump out (and scare) anyone.

Some more words were capitalized, not completely consistently, but emphasizing some other topics. I just doubt that the orange monster can put a complete sentence together, not even one.

I can’t figure this out. Ah… yes I can but whenever I suggest that Joe Biden was asleep at the wheel on the border I get beaten down. But this is it. He didn’t want to be connected to anything that Trump had done. But the fact is , the border needed to be fixed and it wasn’t. I’ve said often that many if not most folks down use reason when they vote. They use their emotions. I’m fearful and now there is t much to do about it. He should have know better. He’s been in politics all his life. He knows how things work. I call it human frailty. I don’t feel good about this one.

Tomorrow I will travel from my home in Hartford, CT to Madison Square Garden to protest. I even signed up for 2 tickets inside but I won’t goin. I just hope that 10,000 others have also signed up and no,one shows up. I’ll be out there on the street with my church bell and screaming and thrusting my book at the cameras. Good luck to everyone.

Remember that bipartisan bill on immigration that Trump told his MAGA Republicans to vote against just so he could deny Biden that victory and instead keep it as his campaign issue? That was not asleep at the wheel.

Expand full comment

And at the same time, negotiating a hostage exchange with Russia and having the flu. That sure was asleep at the wheel, yup, sure was. Nothing wrong with his faculties that the Bezos Post and the Tarnished Lady aka NYTimes couldn't ignore or ridicule.

I do but that was 3 years later.

Took him that long to find a Republican with a backbone. Thank you, Jim Lankford.

It took awhile to work it out with Republicans and Democrats. Bi-partison agreement is tough.

Expand full comment

He was asleep at the wheel. And he is round despised for that. I even despise him for it. My opinions as I said, most democrats will ridicule me.

Expand full comment

Oh? He is the most successful president since FDR. According to the Economist, we are the most robust and secure country on earth and you focus on one particular issue that he can not control without Congress doing their part? God help us all. Let's just leave at that.

Expand full comment

Bill, your opinion is spot on. Biden should have taken a more aggressive stance on the border. Nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes and should own up to them. I think most people would find it admirable to admit a mistake and strive to do better. Even if his executive action would have been challenged, so what. I hope Kamala can learn from this mistake.

Mansplaining. The second highest occupation after misogyny, which is universal. What you are saying is Pres. Biden should have mimicked the man following the elephant in the Grand March in Aida - cleaning up the incredible mess made by the elephant - in this case, a MAGA elephant. Pres. Biden worked with the cards he was dealt. VP Harris will work with a Congress that is, hopefully, amenable to her agenda. If you want to discuss what happened, look to the House of Representatives. Presidents sign bills, they don't get to create them.

Don't rely on the polls. Many are being manipulated. Be vigilant but not hyper vigilant or you could hurt yourself. Go easy on doom scrolling because it affects force readiness. Vote blue.

I would like like to know how it is possible to know how people have voted BEFORE the actual election. I see reports that xx number of Republicans and xx number of Democrats have voted early. Is this exit polling? This seems highly unfair and could easily affect election outcomes. I voted in our provincial (like your state) election this week. It would have been impossible for anyone else to know how I voted.

Expand full comment

They don't know *how* they voted, but ballots are tracked as they come in. So, they have an accounting of how many dems and repubs have voted. I have not sent mine in yet (a few local things I'm still reading about) in CA, but when I do, I can follow my ballot on a vote tracker. Early voting has started all over the country. I hope that answers your question.

I got confirmation from our county that my ballot was received, verified, and counted.

Yeah, the use of and correct spelling for "contentious" is a dead give away that trump didn't write it.
