Thanks for the great explanation Joyce! Good Luck with the new school year! And Mr. Clark is once again way in over his head if he thinks he’s going to outsmart either you or Barb 😁

Barb speaks from the true perspective of the law. There is no law for Trump and the Republicans. They have been pulling these stunts since Nixon. The script was written for this hateful chaos when Nixon was pardoned. I agree with Jill Wine-Banks who was there when it happened. Nixon should have been nailed publicly for his crimes.

Elegantly and eloquently said, Joyce…extra sweet seeing your support of Barb’s response to Jeff Clark. You both set great examples and we (and your respective students) are lucky to have you as educators. And to be 100% clear, I would not want to find myself on the opposing side of you, Barb, Kim, or Jill 🤗

Thanks, Joyce. An excellent summary that I will share with my Republican friends. The presidential "magic wand" seems to absolve all sins regarding classified materials in their minds. I had a top-secret clearance once. Everyone I know would have been in the brig handling top secret materials this way.

And Blondie is still a great name for a fair feathered chicken.

your column was a great way for me to close out the weekend - clear outline of facts, PLUS a great Barb McQuade example of responding clearly and resoundingly without the need for swearing! Have fun with the new semester.

Happy first day of school. Wear comfy shoes, drink water, you will lose your voice from talking, smile, and remember to have fun. Boy those students are lucky to have you as a teacher.

When you do your live broadcast, will we be able to listen? Will we need to listen as you broadcast or will there be a recording that we can listen to as usual on Saturday? As i have said before, you are so calm and factual and grounded that you keep me focused for the week. Thank you so much.

And when are we going to learn the names of the rest of the baby chicks??

I appreciate all that you impart to us who are not well versed in legalize. MSNBC and its viewers are richly rewarded with your input. I was kicked off of twitter about 9 months ago for telling the truth about the punishment for treason, if convicted. No cursing, no naming of names. A couple of weeks later, Paul Gosar posted the sword to cut off AOC's head, and though I appealed several times, they deny me. But, I have the last laugh because I am still able to follow you there and Angry_Staffer. Saves me on a daily basis. Stay safe.

Lots of good teaching points Ms Vance! I feel like I am a first or second year law student to be honest.

I am not sure if it is just the news coverage or that people expect these continuing revelations about trump to start changing minds. I personally do not believe for a New York minute that trump is "absent minded", did not understand the law", "really thought the election was rigged", etc. He is motivated by money and power (in that order) and takes advantage of the cognitive and confirmational bias of his supporters. I do not pretend to believe that too many more minds will be changed, instead we have to run this to ground through the full extent of the law and deal with the national convulsion that will result. backing down to "keep the peace" will simply move us many steps closer to an autocracy. how many generations will have to pass to flush all this out of the system remains to be seen. the book by Barbara Walter (How Civil Wars Start) illustrates exactly what trump and his followers have been doing. it has to start now and go after all those involved with conviction. removing trump from the equation does not solve the problem as the box has been opened and the combination of Christian Nationalists, general racists, bigots, etc. that he has rallied have come out of the closet so to speak. there is a growing laundry list of laws that need to be put in place, clarified, or means of enforcement put into place or this will go further down the wrong path. the "unspoken rules", "gentleman's agreements", etc of the past are not functional any more. tightening up laws on declassification of documents, the Hatch act (how to enforce), obviously the role of the VP on certifying elections, how to better screen candidates for the supreme court, enforcement of divestiture of economic interests, etc. the list goes on. it gets tricky when it comes to charging or inditing a sitting president, that is a slippery slope. this whole ordeal has been a learning experience and a moment of truth for those of us who care deeply for this country, what it has stood for, etc. we need to open our eyes to our own history and recognize how we got here, and start to undo the damage.
