Thank you Joyce! I registered my first new voter today - he just became a citizen! If we all do a little bit more, hopefully we will prevail.

It is my hope this Thursday the January 6th Committee surprises us with audio and video evidence that proves beyond a reasonable doubt the crimes Trump may have committed. Our country needs this Trump Era to end so we can start to heal and move on to do greater things. There are so many people hurting in this country and in need who really can’t wait. There are other issues we need to resolve like racism and hate. And work to do to bring peace. Let’s hope for the best this week. Thank you for another great newsletter.

A great post as usual, Joyce, and I continue to enjoy your explaining things in these extraordinarily weird times. My favorite line in your post is "You can’t ignore racism and expect it to get better." I have long believed that and it is certainly still true! Those of us who live in the South learned this lesson long ago (well, most of us anyway!). Thank you so much for all you do!

In the good old days, especially before Women’s suffrage, we relied more on the Tyranny of the Nice. Women had little power but to help enforce niceness. Black people were nicer then, or else lynched. Women could enter men’s professions, legally; but not remaining nice. Jews, as long as they were respectful of Christianity, were tolerated although not spoken of much. Ugly thoughts were not spoken of much, like dissent and friction and racial ingratitude and women’s problems and political instigators. Fascism may come to America, not by Big Brother or by Total Amusement, but by agreement by the troublesome people to be nice. Slavery was not nice; neither are reparations or crime. Abortions are just not nice; Jews can be, if they are quiet about it. Fox News remains eternally

vigilant about the encroachment of Not Nice problems. It saves us from disquieting thought.

I see a future in which many pregnant women will convert to Judaism 😆

That's quite a full plate, Joyce. Thanks for all you do to keep us abreast of the choices to be made and the outcomes to aspire to.

Happy Sunday night/Monday morning JV. Appreciate your taking time with us on these topics. All are urgent but I again go back to concern on how DOJ can find probable cause for search warrants to other locations where FPOTUS’ missing documents that belong to NARA must surely be. This is so disturbing to me.

Nostalgia is a fragile word in that it goes right to leading to Fascism , as if there was a better time before this. I do have Nostalgia when there was not the 24/7 news cycle that did not give rise with the viscous divisiveness that we see today

What I love most about your discussions of these most insane times is hearing your voice as I read your discourse. Thank you, Joyce, for all you bring to the conversation, but most of all your dedication to clarity and calm.

Joyce, Thank you. I appreciate your skill in framing these issues in a fact based manner and calling out the hypocrisy that is rampant in the current system.

Many states have sent out their vote by mail ballots (received mine the other day - Florida) and will have early voting opening shortly. This is the best time to do your part. Talk to your children, grandchildren, etc. about the process and how it works and how you've selected who you select. I registered to vote when I was seventeen (earliest NY allowed at the time) because I had gone to the polls with my mom for years. I knew what it was about and wanted to participate. Give the young people in your life that same lift up and help them understand why it matters. We are all in this together.

Tuberville has no business in the senate and no business speaking for anything or anybody. He just doesn't have it.

I was absolutely shocked by Tuberville’s comments. A man who is so full of hate for his fellow citizens and constituents has no place in any level of government!

Bravo, Ms Vance! What a great "Week Ahead" post. Early in your comments my head spun about the intricacies (intrigue) of laws and procedures beyond the grasp of ordinary citizens. What seems to me relevant here is that an authoritarian administration would simplify LAW to conform to their political agenda. If Democratic administration continues, will the bewildering complexities further the pitiful tiptoeing around "false equivalencies" that Trump is employing and Judges are dallying with? Is Trump using Law to stall or reverse the indefensible? Cowardly Republicans are indulging in wrecking representative democracy by lying, using racist, nationalist, extremist rhetoric and getting away with it. They raise armed militias to intimidate Democratic voters and vow to win by any means. I am a Democrat through and through and I just do not understand how Republicans are getting away with what they ARE doing and ARE NOT doing. I like your metaphor of ping pong between Law and Judgment but this game feels more like Russian Roulette.

Joyce -- I depend on your cogency. Thank you. Can you help me with two ponderings (1) WHY/WHAT might DOJ be waiting for re: the MAL/espionage/obstruction case, beyond awaiting the midterms? (2) What happens when/if Trump announces his candidacy? Will that give him protection for 2 years? If so, any ideas why he hasn't already done so? Thank you (again and again)!!! Cynthia (CA)

My sister and I flew from California to Washington DC to march for women's reproductive rights. The march was so very small. It's as if the sound of moral rightness has been shattered and splintered and now all we hear is cacophony. I feel powerless to help the women in Texas or Kentucky, for example. Will writing postcards help? I really don't know what to do besides write a few checks.
