So Glad to see your writing here tonight. It's a hard 9/11 for me this year. Thanks for the good company.

The enfolding of this racist, violent, lying, cheating, mentally ill former president but still orange pustule by the GOP as a whole and its leadership specifically is what fuels my disdain for all the weak arguments against voting Democratic next year. For all that's unholy, what idiot thinks we should have more of this disgusting display of unmedicated, unchecked mental illness? They are ALL traitors, in my book. When my chiropractor, MY CHIROPRACTOR, started a dialog with me on the table about reaching across neighborhoods in order to stop the democratic hate (???????) I got up, put my lil walkin shoes on, told him he'd never fool all the people he's lying to and I'd personally counter every vote he ever made for the rest of his life. I was pretty polite come to think of it. He had wildly misjudged who I am, because he doesn't listen unless he is talking. REMIND YOU OF ANYONE? Let's vote in all elections for #1 sane people. It's a low bar, but maybe we can make it happen.

Expand full comment

I disagree when you say the orange traitor is mentally ill. He is pure evil, with contempt for everything that doesn't serve him, and even most things and people that do.

Evil is not a mental illness, it's just evil. It must be denied, and all those who selfishly follow must be voted out.

To compare his evilness to mental illness is unfair to those with actual mental illness. Those people need help and understanding, the orange traitor needs punishment.

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental health condition. This horrible human was also raised in a way that exacerbated his evilness (see Mary Trump's first book, "Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man."

As a result this heinous human will continue to create havoc and harm to everyone but himself, until we stop him!

Expand full comment

I have read Mary Trump's book. It may be true that narcissistic personality disorder is an affliction he has but I can hardly say he "suffers" from it. I actually don't care if he does. He has taken his cruelty and obsession with power to a point that, in my opinion, makes his problem irrelevant. He is a criminal and a traitor to our country.

They'll give him all the counseling and therapy he desires in prison.

He was my landlord from 1972-1974. All the stuff we have seen since 2015 I saw (and in some ways experienced) then. (He managed a building Daddy Fred owned.) He was mean, vindictive--awful. Eventually, he sued me. With a great deal of fear, I went to court representing myself. He didn't bother to show. I won.

I grew up in Valley Stream and am aware of the families proclivities. He and his father sucked then, and he sucks now. You know he didn't give a damn how you felt. I'm sorry you had to have anything to do with them.

Expand full comment

Would he confront you about things? Or just be mean when you asked for things? I'm so interested in your story and I think you're great to have provoked him to that point, given what he's like. And to have gone in to court. What a shmuck he is. What excellent training for him to have become what he is too, to be managing a building his father owned, possibly he was permitted to do whatever he liked, and I suppose most of the tenants were older than him and had fought their way through life-- I bet he spread so much unhappiness-- bc why not?

He's WAAAAAAYYYY beyond merely Narcissistic (as horrible as that is). The guy is also at the top range of Antisocial Personality Disorder. Put them together, and you've got a MALIGNANT NARCISSIST. Others who fall under this diagnosis include: Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, among many others who've caused nightmares in the lives of 100,000,000's of people.

They are by nature morally blind. They have no conscience and cannot imagine having one. They often despise those with a conscience; they see it as a self-destructive manifestation of weakness. They are shockingly prevalent in our society, which has no traditions of protecting the vulnerable. We don’t care. If you don’t believe there are common, why is domestic violence practiced by so many? We see the morally blind leading the morally blind. They have a duty to do what is right, to lead. But many turn towards wrong, and follow their inner darkness. Let’s stand against them.

Of course we have those traditions. As you discover when you visit other countries.

Celeste, while I understand what you mean & as someone who suffers from depression, it's hard for me to wrap my head around any of tRump's disgusting comments & deeds. Yes, they're evil, but they also seem to come from a place that is so outside the normal that we don't really have a word for it. I think that's why so many call him mentally unstable. We need a new word for him that combines the evil that is masquerading as normal.

Trump makes up reality as he goes along by lying. It’s designed to serve him and only him. Other people help or harm his aims and do not matter because they are not real to him. He uses others but doesn’t share a reality with them. He is strategic. Using lies he constantly manipulates people’s perception of who he is. He also manipulates people’s perception of who others are constantly. He is the most destructive force in human form I have ever witnessed.

A necessary read is “People of the Lie…Healing Human Evil” by Scott Peck, a psychiatrist commissioned during the Vietnam War to explain the massacre at My Lai by American soldiers. Evil is the fruit of malignant narcissism deliberately distilled by human malice into a poison.

It does arise in war. Yes, you might say it arises in Trump-- people are de-humanized in Trump's mind-- his own countrymen are to him what alien combatants become in the minds of soldiers after 5 years of war. That sort of thing. Disposable and worse.

Evil and mental illness can occur together as is with 45.

Narcissistic personality disorder is indeed a mental health condition... and is the RESULT of grossly poor parenting. He wasn't born with it, and he didn't catch it. Personality traits and emotional capabilities are developed on the way to adulthood, whatever shape that takes.

It's a strange story you tell. The Trumpists I know are also chiropractors-- what can this mean? I love them and think of them so often while watching the orange man exhibiting his qualities-- can't we be free of him? Did we have to see him again today? He harangued us beforehand and during lunch, and probably afterward. His tedious story! "A Dumb Man's Nastiness." "His Favorite Tedium." His tedium, his humorless red face and Noise! He thinks it's so urgent.

He doesn't realize it isn't urgent.

On 9/11 I was on scene w my Lt.. He walked across the meticulously sectioned crime scene right at me. I can still see the panic in his eyes. He grabbed me by the shoulder and we walked again thru the crime scene and he pretty much threw me in our veh. Our team drove 11hrs to where we were assigned. Terror devolved to horror. I don't want this to happen to the younger generations. Donestic Terrorism needs new laws to prosecute the 30% who want 9/11 to happen again so they can gain power and destroy pp who are not like them. Frank Figliuzi says this every time I hear him speak. He understands the gravity. I wish more pp in LE and the military did. The Judge who gave Tarrio 22yrs instead of the asked 35yrs by DOJ did so bec he is blind to the fact that Tarrio is the same kind of psychopath that created and implemented 9/11. Time to wake up.

And yes, I have seen a lot of grown men shed many a tear over their fallen partner, deputy, police officer, or fellow firefighter. It's not a pleasant time for any of us, I can assure you.

9/11 still so vivid in my memory. The selfless acts of those men and women first responders are such a reminder of what our nation used to be. Please stay safe, Joyce, and thank you for your inspiring and informative writings.

But Jon Stewart had to go to Congress to beg for money to treat those first responders whoe were injured and /or sickened by their services to us.

I remember seeing Jon Stewart in Congress but he wasnt begging - he was shaming those people for not doing the right thing - their job! It seems shaming works when its done by someone the public knows & respects - and someone the msm will publicize!

I’m so sorry TFG named you and your colleagues in one of his vulgar, vile tweets. It truly sickens me. Please stay safe.

My memories of 9/11 are vivid like all of us who were of age to remember it. My beautiful friend died a year ago from lung cancer tied to her service at ground zero. We were together there - and we would often talk about it on the anniversary of 9/11. This year - it is very different.

A lot was lost that day - and many continue to leave us. That was not of our own making and indeed, we came together.

Now we are facing a monumental challenge to our young country. It breaks my heart to see how a lust for power and control has undermined the fabric of this nation. How it’s not only permitted but celebrated. Yet I have hope. We must have hope.

Thank you for your incredible contributions that help us understand the legal issues as they become more and more complex, and for letting us have hope that we actually are in this together.

I agree with Fani Willis, it is powerful to compare RICO statutes, state-by-state.

Florida does have a RICO statute Chaptered under Section 895.02(1)(a) which makes it a 1st Class Felony in Florida "to solicit, coerce or intimidate another person to commit ... assault & battery".

Absent a Prosecutor in Palm Beach, FL with any guts, there is a similar Federal provision to collar such a criminal enterprise to discharge the Rule of Law in good faith.

On related matters, I must acknowledge CREW's shrewd Amendment 14, Section 3 disqualification action in Colorado. The state does have an enabling statute to give standing to 6 Colorado Voters, 5 women & 1 man, to trigger the CO Secretary of State to prevent the Orange Perp from even getting on the ballot. Rocky Mountain High 5.

It’s all so exhausting but you, Andrew, Barbara and all of those who every day explain what is going on with the myriad of cases are doing a great service for all Americans. When Sen. Bill Cassidy said today he would only vote for a Republican for president, he had to be pressed if he would write in a candidate. And these public figures are supposed to be educated. Keep educating us! It’s invaluable.

An incredible woman I worked for in the 1970s (and proud that we continued to be friends) Betty Goetz Lall, discovered she was on Nixon’s “Enemies List”. I was already so proud of knowing, let alone affiliated with her. She wasn’t the first I knew in that situation, but it only reconfirmed that when someone hateful targets you, it’s a compliment. It means you’re doing what’s right. Fearless. Embrace it. It’s a mark of honor.

I spent a few hours with a member on X doing a zoom interview yesterday. We jumped around so much that we decided not to publish the discussion. He pointed out that I tend to make matters too complicated and to look for explanations to support my opinions. Which is not all bad but makes my comments on X longer than they need to be. Plus I am a minister, so I am naturally long winded and saying things in round about ways. I used to say that I thought Trump was a narcissistic sociopath who lied about everything he touched, has caused great harm to America and needs to be prevented from running for any office again. How does this sound, Trump is a crazy thug who should be in jail?

On the eve of 9/11, it shatters my heart over and over that we’re where we are today. As I recall this night 22 years ago, saying goodnight and hugging my teenaged sons, and then less than 24 hours later, the searing loss of neighbors and thousands of strangers wrapped us in grief. It makes me raw and heartbroken anew; unable to grasp how people cannot see what the current cancer is eviscerating.

Dear Joyce, I'm so sorry to read the attack on you and others. It would be ludicrous if it wasn't scary. I hope nothing awful comes of it. But here's a happier story. My husband and I were scheduled to go to France in late September 2001. We considered cancelling, but decided that the worldwide alertness meant it was a good time to go. The amazing thing was that people stopped us on the streets of Paris to talk with us, and some hugged us. French people had never, ever, in my experience, hugged strangers, much less American ones. So it wasn't just Americans pulling together.

I remember 9/11 very vividly. I lived in Alexandria and my boss and I went up on the roof of our building to see the smoke coming from the Pentagon. Americans did unite, and for a day or two Dubya showed surprising leadership. Then it all went to hell.

Shock and Awe, bombing and terrorizing people who had nothing to do with the attacks, black sites for CIA detention, torture at Guantanamo Bay, never holding Saudi Arabia accountable. It became endless blood for oil.

We got the unnecessary Homeland Security Office and the Paul Wolfowitz penned New World Order rewritten and served up as The Patriot Act.

I remember well the morning of 9/11. My sister in law called to tell us to turn on the TV. I, like many others only saw the second tower fall and still to this day can't wrap my head around the images seen on TV.

I for one, will never forget. Those images are seared into my brain forever.

That day, the whole world was with us against the horror that unfolded. Well, at least most of the world. If only that was still true now. Especially within our own country.

Prayers for all of us tomorrow in remembrance. Peace seems shaky at best.
