"the worst secretary of state in American history," is indicative of too many of these petty little dilettantes, dabblers in governance around and including tfg. Too lazy to do the work and expect all the perks and glory of power and none of the responsibility. This seems to be the legacy of the Koch brothers, Federalist Society, among other conservative leaders. Computers are smoking holding their history!!!

The January 6, 2021 Insurrection caused the counting of the votes to be delayed to January 7th. So, no, there was no peaceful transition of power on January 6, 2021. It was subverted by Trump, Pompeo and their Party.

The delay was bad. But much worse were the threats of physical harm and death to Congressional representatives and staff, the vice president and the brave but outnumbered Capital and Metropolitan police, by a swarm of rag tag, white supremacist, brain-washed insurrectionists too high on putrid Trump Juice to think about the wisdom, or lack thereof, of the evil abomination they created out of their ignorance, anger, hatred and broken souls.

Yes, and the murder of officers. Some so stressed they committed suicide. They are all responsible for the officers. I have not heard of anyone being charged with murder. We watched him get murdered on National television. Who will be held accountable?

They couldn't prove the elements of murder in a court of law. But Julian Khater, the man who sprayed officer Sicknick, was sentenced to 6 years in prison.

"Before handing down his sentence, Judge Thomas Hogan told Khater, “People can conclude in their own minds that the spray may have caused [Sicknick’s death] but medically they haven’t shown it.”

Pompeo was a grifter before Trump and kept improving his grifting skills while helping Trump do his con. I fear Americans have so devalued public service and good governance that we get stuck w/ low-skilled, low-ethics people like Pompeo, MT Greene, Stefanik, Gosar, McCarthy, etc. If fewer good people run for office, policies will be set by incompetent and/or lying scumbags. Unfortunately, too many American voters seem to like it that way.

I feel sick to my stomach, just seeing those names together and realizing that they hold the future of our country -- my country, my daughter's country -- in their filthy hands. We are a banana republic for sure. Or at least have moved rapidly in that direction since 2016.

You are correct, but remember it was all planned. The United States Cyber Security Department that stops cyber crimes was stripped in 2015 up to the election. Crimes in the 2016 Election that Donald got away with. Barr with his criminal actions of lying to American people, not allowing Muller to write the truth about what he found , plus Barr stopped the investigation. I call his actions, Obstruction of Justice.

But they are not the overall majority. It’s just hot air hiding behind a cloud of lies. If we can remember that we might have a chance in 2024.

Yes, you're right. It's a matter of getting people to pay attention to politics at all levels of government, get active with campaigns, support good candidates, and vote. It will take a lot of work because wishing it won't get rid of the bad guys.

Please don't forget that some of Donald's video ads contained hypnotic, subliminal messages I call mind control. I witnessed it myself. Don't watch any of Donald's video's. This should be against the law. Plus, the ads that tell lies about the individuals running for offices, needs to be a crime. What has happened to honesty?

WOW! I never watched any of his ads! Now I'm curious! Honesty + repugs? No such thing, IMHO.

Please don't. I did. I started getting a headache. I immediately turned it off and went in my kitchen. I started getting this warm feeling about Donald. I said, no way!!! I get a headache under hypnotic suggestions. Brain washing. I went to one years ago to try to loose weight and kept getting a headache. Be careful. Brain washing has been around since before Christ.

But listen to this, yesterday one of the ladies I have been assisted started talking about how much she loves Trump! What?

Shocking! I asked her what had she been watching then she started shouting out that Biden was 3 or 4 people, and more garbage. I asked her what had she been watching and she said all the videos she could. Oh my goodness! How can someone change that quickly. She sent me all these attachments and I deleted them immediately. This crap is real. This is a woman of color that use to be very spiritual. Well, not anymore. Scary!!!! I have tried to warn everyone. Well, she didn't listen.

'The Week Ahead' is an invitation to remember Mike Pompeo. Remember him? That big guy who was Trump's first director of the CIA and then went on to be Secretary of State. Don't forget him because he and '...his wife, Susan, are “..thinking, praying, trying to figure out if this is the next place to go serve.” What's' …the next place to go serve'? It's the White House, of course. Reread 'The Week Ahead', so you don't forget how this guy has served us, and he's a liar, too.

It’s hard to see a constituency for Pompeo. Trumpists won’t vote for him so long as the original is in the race, and Democrats won’t vote for him. Does he appeal to independents who like Trump policies but don’t like the narcissism?

This could be a money source. It is too early to pick one but will wait to see who is strongest among Trump's competitors.

This is the truth-something that people here do not recognize. Russian active measures have become acceptable, with an excess of useful idiots in every facet of our government, willingly raising their hands for the payout. This country is seriously teetering on the edge of authoritarianism / autocracy with the river of Russian money feeding the insatiable appetite of the American oligarchy / kleptocracy.

There is a coterie of people "who know better"...Stefanik, Hailey, DeSantis, Pompeo. I include McConnell. These are very smart, very cynical people who practice Machiavellian politics to get what they want at the expense of every moral principle, and regardless of the impact on the survival of the country. They are cut from the same cloth as war profiteers and heroin dealers and sex traffickers, except they cover their naked lust for power with self-righteous costumes of "conservatism" or "making America great again". But we know who they are, what they are, and what they will do. Just look at how they treat each other.

McConnell is the worst of the worst of the worst, and has been that for far too many years. The biggest hypocrite our country has ever had to endure.

He is the poster child for the need for term limits.

I think he's the poster child for hypocrisy, for sure. As for term limits...Ted Kennedy did a lot of good with all that seniority and all those terms. (46 years) But yeah, overall, there is far too much potential for evil in unchecked incumbency. Two terms ought to be enough. Did you notice that Ted Cruz is running for a third term after signing on to outlawing them?

" What’s an effective way for Democrats and people who love our country alike to make sure this kind of dangerous historical fiction gets the serious attention and condemnation it deserves? "

What you're really asking here is-What is to be done about it? Well, I'll tell you..Firstly, all that is currently being done is it's being written and discussed between likeminded people like this community and others like it, ie: The Warning with Steve Schmidt....What has to happen is action! The Pompeos of the world as with Trump et al, are a clear and present danger to our Democracy and the Country..they must be taken out of the equation, period, full stop! Anything less is simply intelligent, observant plugged in folks like you preaching to the choir, us....The action I refer to is the only thing these people understand..It is the only thing the British understood and the only thing the South understood..I am not calling for war, but we have been attacked and the perpetrators are still walking free..some of them are in Congress continuing to attack everyday..WE NEED DECISIVE ACTION! Not just a raising of awareness..

That means getting people registered to vote all across this nation state by state and volunteers who are fully informed on what is required and know the laws in each state that might be deterrents to achieving our goal of no potential voter left behind. Starting now! Promoting Biden’s achievements to date and ads that address all misinformation and lies. That’s a start.

Expand full comment

Indictments would help. Carefully, so as to go after corruption and fraud and not political speech and ideology. Perhaps some kind of "private attorney general" law that would allow members of the public to pursue civil litigation against politicians who engage in corrupt practices while in office. If it is kept it in the "civil" realm, the burden of proof is a preponderance instead of beyond a reasonable doubt, and some victories might be achieved.

At the least, these arrogant fat cat politicians will be on the hook for the fees of their white shoe DC white collar criminal lawyers.
