I wish there were some way to keep trump from appealing absolutely everything. His delay tactics have gotten very old. I want to see him sentenced in Manhattan, and I want to see the DC trial proceed. I wish Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss a smooth path in collecting the judgement due them. They deserve it.

With a writ of collection, they can move some semi-trailers up to Rudi's residences and haul his belongings to the auction house. The police will stand by to ensure security.

Time to get off the pot and get 'er done.

Yes. This is a rich people time frame. It would be nice if the courts say that Rudy's stuff will be sold right away, and that includes properties. They also should lock him up. Here are some Lincoln Project videos where Giuliani is mentioned and they have a subscriber base of 1.2 mil.

Here is Ruby Freedman talking about her experiences. https://youtu.be/wt_7gi2IIn8?si=oeuQxo_0fTTW4juN

Most of the time, his appeals are tossed out. So why complain? It's his life-long habit of using the courts to bully people into giving up and going away. Only the rich can afford to face down a clown like Trump who absolutely refuses to accept loss.

Expand full comment

The reason I'm not happy is because his life-long habit is really obnoxious, and it denies the country its right to a speedy trial, and even more, its right to know the truth.

That's the part he just doesn't get. I guess he must know somewhere inside that he is guilty, but there is no way he will ever admit it. (I've been asking the same question seemingly forever.)

He's learned how to play the judicial system masterfully. I'd worry about his followers trying imitate him except, thankfully, they couldn't afford it - unless a PAC slips them money for the unworldly attorney's fees because they want their SCOTUS to undo some of the charges from J6.

Expand full comment

I doubt that a PAC would slip them some money, because trump would drain the account before they could do anything else with it. And playing the judicial system the way he does is disgusting. It's clear that it's all about refusing to take responsibility for anything he's done. It boggles my mind that he thinks he's the only person in the world who has any value.

Expand full comment

No one wakes up to his constant attempts to delay, to get judges removed, attacks their families. If a person were non-guilty they would want to speedily move the case the trial, PRESENT THEIR PROOF OF INNOCENCE, but he has none. His attorney's are individuals he has scrapped the bottom of the barrel to find, who will actually represent him. The former president of the United States should be able to be represented by the greatest lawyers in the U.S. Every legitimate law firm in the country has made it clear they want nothing to do with him. The ONLY reason he is running is to be put into power to erase every one of his legal cases. Period.

Down here in Baghdad By the Sea, we have 3 Congressional seats held by MAGATS in districts with Democratic registration majorities. Statewide, Biden lost by 3.1% in 2020, so we only need 2% to flip the state.

Democrats have viable candidates to oppose them, but we lost about 1 MM Democratic voters from purging since 2022.

We need help. Check out BYOP -- it's free. Takes only a couple of minutes to send texts on behalf of candidates like Florida senate candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who is running against the demonic incumbent "Sunset" Rick Scott, to get new Democrats registered and flip his seat. We have the capacity to overwhelm them. We turn into a pumpkin Oct. 7.

As Joyce notes, SDNY Judge Alvin Hellerstein rejected Trump's claim that allegations in the then hush money indictment involved official duties, writing in July 2023, "The evidence overwhelmingly suggests that the matter was a purely a personal item of the president — a cover-up of an embarrassing event. Hush money paid to an adult film star is not related to a president's official acts. It does not reflect in any way the color of the president's official duties."

In order to be able to properly refile the long-shot motion for removal, Trump would have to get the DA to sign off on the request or obtain "leave" for it from Justice Merchan. The chances of either are slim to none IMO. More pasta against the wall.

I suggest the chances are the same for Merchan vacating the conviction based on the SCOTUS immunity ruling and even the appellate court considering that decision before sentencing. Appeals in NYS criminal cases (and elsewhere) are not normally allowed before sentencing, since that along with the conviction represent the final judgment in a case. Doesn't mean Trump won't try in an effort to ensure more delay. But, both Merchan and the appellate court have already shown they don't suffer motions ostensibly for delay gladly, and have so ruled quickly.

Yes, he will try to steal the election again if he loses. He has learned through the actions of the Supreme Court in their delays and then decisions on immunity that they have him covered. He has learned that his delay tactics work. He has learned that he can do as he pleases. He has learned these things from the actions of those around him and the justice system itself, just like many of my former clients with severe behavior problems learned from the actions and inactions of the people around them that these problem behaviors worked.

But he won't be President when he loses. He won't have access to the levers of power he had four years ago, even if his creatures are spread all over the Federal and local governments. And it might just happen that if he tries to incite another insurrection President Biden might invoke some of the powers SCOTUS just confirmed to go ahead and Lock. Him. Up. Put him in the orange jumpsuit and let him appeal until Hell freezes over. Delay that!

I agree entirely ... Trump does not have ANY of the resources he had last time, at least at the federal level.

However I expect Team Trump has primed every County Election Supervisor in the 6-8 swing states to simply refuse to certify any Harris-win results by the "safe harbour" date (around 14 December). That is the greatest threat to a Harris Electoral College win I think - forcing the decision to a Republican (state delegation majority) House.

John, I appreciate your comments. Seems like he learned at a very young age how to beat the system, thanks to the influence of some family members (not siblings, as far as I know), especially in the way his father treated others?

On the other hand, how did he learn to make millions of naive idiots worship the ground he walks on, kiss his ring and worst of all, give him their hard-earned money, expecting nothing.in return?

Although I have only three college credits in psychology, I think I understand what you mean about severe behavior problems learned from others. He's like a huge orange sponge, absorbing all that's bad in people, instead of positive and helpful things.

We have to expect that those things he did the last time were a piece of cake, compared to what he has up for his sleeve in November. He may not be book smart, but he has learned many things from his friends who lead our adversarial nations. We're seeing more "bots" (AIs, perhaps?) stirring up angry discussions regarding political articles posted online.

Since he promises to make our lives miserable whether he wins or loses, do you worry about him ever having access to the nuclear codes? Do you think he learned a lot of that aggressiveness from playing games with war toys when he was growing up? Assuming that he had someone to play with, that is.

Expand full comment

In addition to the keys to our nuclear arsenal, I worry if the countries to which he's sold classified documents, (perhaps stolen to keep him in office?) the case of which Judge Cannon dismissed, now have enough damaging information to cause World War Three.

Expand full comment

David, I've thought a lot about that, too. Do you remember a while back when that tape was revealed in which you can hear Trump discussing a classified document about Iran with a staffer and reporter, knowing they weren't cleared to see it, and then they laugh about it?

Makes me wonder how many others without any authority to see or hear about any classified documents have discussed them with Trump, and how many of these documents have been sold (and may still be available, at the right price) or given to our adversaries. This is NOT the kind of person we want to see within 100 miles of the White House.

Speaking of sharing documents with those not cleared to handle them, I wonder what the reaction would be if Harris mentioned that incident if/when they have a debate. If they don't have a debate, would if help if she added a little snippet of that discussion in her ads, especially since his very favorite judge in the entire universe will never hear that case?

Expand full comment

And never forget the powerful hand of Mitch McConnell operating behind the throne to wrest power back into the hands of the hard right. Denying Obama his pick for a Justice and nominating the 3 Justices under Trump. Nominating other hard right Judges around the country like the ideologues Aileen Cannon and Matthew Kacsmaryk in Texas. It's been a dumpster fire for our freedoms.

Controlling a president is so alien a concept in the American system. First of all, what has happened to the concept of a public servant? Someone who seeks elected office so that they can accomplish the will of the people. Biden said, and I believe that history will prove, that he seeks an office so that he can leave the country a bit better off.

Secondly, TFG seeks to obliterate our system of checks and balances, something that is fundamental to our constitution. He’s already got the SCOTUS in his pocket and the MAGA faction of Congress will do or say anything to support him in the naive belief that they will receive personal gain and power.

We must stop feeding the power hungry. They have no concept of public service, ethics, or greater good.

I think a very telling moment was when TFG and John Kelly visited Arlington. I believe they were standing by Kelly’s son’s grave. TFG asked, I believe sincerely, why he did it, why this young man was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for his country? He has no idea what it means to think about someone else.

"Someone who seeks elected office so that they can accomplish the will of the people."

Call me an old cynic, but I think a BIG majority of those who try to get elected are not doing it for "public service" or honorable reasons - they like the income, the career requiring no obvious qualifications, the power, the status, the unending deference from people who are much smarter than they are, the chauffeur-driven black cars, the attention of starry-eyed female interns, the invites to the coolest parties, and the best seats at the theatre. And the post-office perks, with pensions and health care for life. And for a healthy minority of them, the graft and corrupt money.

That is not cynical. It is simply the truth. The moral turpitude begins early in this late capitalism with a mass education system rigged to financially reward sociopathic Winner Takes All types. By the time individuals become adults those who are emotionally mature will have been socially sidelined one way or another. Unless they come from wealth, in which case they can make a career pointing out the faults of society without existential or physical risk, changing none of the fundamentals.

In a society built upon such an imbalanced foundations ‘things fall apart’. Writing about how corrupted our societal structures have become, even if we are powerless to prevent the unfolding corrosion is helpful🐈‍⬛

The Declaration of Independence had mirrored the ideals of John Locke. At the Constitution Convention, under George Washington’s eye, some of the most extraordinary political compromises were devised that resulted in the survival of our country.

Lots has happened in the world since 1787. Amendments have permitted some adjustments to our Constitution. However, for its time it was, and remains, extraordinary.
