They have lied their way into power. Republicans are like kudzu and Chinese wisteria, the vines that ate the South. Those vines are HORRIBLY invasive growing over everything in their path. They will choke the life out of every plant in its way. These vines take YEARS to remove, and even the tiniest tendril left in the ground will grow to overtake the space again if not removed. The Republicans are trying to take us back to the Gilded Age when robber barons ruled much of the country. They don't want ordinary people to have an opportunities.
Great analogy. Up north it's Japanese Knotweed and it's a nightmare. It takes incredible vigilance and one must dig a whole far greater than the root just in case there is a tendril in the soil. To Joyce's point, we need each other!
