I love the new chicken coop (in progress) and I love this: "Happy partial release of the Fulton County grand jury investigation report eve to all who celebrate." Most of all, I love being able to get your clear analysis after a day with no time or stomach for news. Many thanks.
How did this all happen? I can see one man thirst for power and money and commit a crime along the way. But to have so many other people involved along with him committing so many illegal acts to help him reach his goal is just so hard to believe or understand. It’s in times like this I always like to say “this gives me a brain cramp.”
The relentless pursuit of power and money is the only explanation. They all want to be in the orbit of “king” so each can grab their own little bit of power. Besides, if you’re not in it with him, you’re out and we’ve seen what he does to people on the outside. Of course we’ve seen what he does to the ones on the inside he’s finished with. That’s the part that blows my mind. He’ll throw them under the bus in a heartbeat and yet they continue to protect him!
See what happens at the end of the film GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY, a story beginning with masks against the pandemic and ending with...see for yourself!
Author Rian Johnson had a world of inspiration for the story peeled to the core in layers. Brilliant. And thanks to The Beatles for providing the controlling metaphor!
Meanwhile, let the chicks fall where they may in the straw beds of their new digs, Joyce. Love those lively characters with all my heart.
You may be underestimating how often this occurs on a smaller scale, and largely out of the public eye. I grew up when "groupthink" was much in the news by various names. In writing about Nazi Germany, Hannah Arendt famously called it "the banality of evil." I came of political age in the era that David Halberstam wrote about in _The Best and the Brightest_: the supposed best minds (generally white, male, and educated in the Ivy League) that made all the ignorant, short-sighted choices that sucked the U.S. into the Vietnam War. It's worth remembering that most of these people didn't act purely out of altruism or devotion to Trump: there was something in it for them too.
Since then there have been so many instances of (usually) men's thirst for power and/or money doing great harm with the active participation and/or tacit collusion of hundreds of thousands of people: the tobacco industry comes immediately to mind, and next up are the fossil-fuel interests that helped block study of and action on climate change for decades. Note that these sins of omission and commission often don't involve committing crimes. Huge ethical violations and breaches of the public trust, sure, but not crimes.
Crime or not, there's plenty of responsibility to go around. It may be too late for a lot of things, but that's no reason to put things off any longer.
Look to all those that went to jail after from Nixon administration: John N. Mitchell ®, Richard Kleindienst ®, H. R. Haldeman ®, John Ehrlichman ®, Egil Krogh ®, John Dean ®, Dwight Chapin ®, Herbert W. Kalmbach ®, Charles Colson Due to Watergate, and Spiro Agnew ®, Maurice Stans (R) for other crimes. We can only hope for an historical repeat.
Your comment is the terrifying realization of how many have been involved in criminal acts. Like rats they have learned there is not much they need fear so it multiplies and becomes more visible.
The last century Republicans and Democrats have had a festering criminal element.
I suspect greed and power were the motivations for the followers who hoped to keep trump in power. Their goal is to destroy our democracy no matter the circumstances or consequences.
A chicken coop you say, are you referring to the Trump White House… because it seems a lot of chickens there who don’t recall a friggin thing, and a whole lotta caca left everywhere! Or, that structure in your back yard…
We need to start a clock, like the Dooms Day Clock, for the time tfg's doom hits. It feels like it's about 10:00 pm, maybe 10:30. What would we name it?
Joyce, kudos for this absolutely fascinating analysis. This was the first thing I read this morning while beginning my day with my first cup of coffee and I was riveted, you are such a wonderful writer and a brilliant legal analyst. Loved seeing the progress of your beautiful new chicken coop too. Thanks for all you do, I also love seeing you on MSNBC.
Thank you for your wisdom. This has been going on so long & can be overwhelming so I’m trying to find a balance in my life. So, I have cut out, just until the next election, watching MSNBC 24/7. But each night I like to make a cup of tea & check in with you. I need a chicken coop in my life... I appreciate all the work you do.
Great pic of the chicken coop progress! Thanks for the explanation of the DOJ subpoena and potential reasoning of what JS is after. I'm all in for Fauni Willis!
Let's talk DNA. If this were a movie we could be watching somebody trailing the suspect to pick up discarded items to run a test on it to see if there is a match. After all that is exactly what happened with the Moscow Idaho murders by Bryan Christopher Kohberger to tie him to the scene.
What are the chances that somebody did the same with Trump and they already know if there is a match to the E Jean Carole sample? Is evidence of that nature allowed in the prosecutors tool box? And if it is do they need to disclose it to the defense?

That particular sentence cracked me up. I love it.

I remember Lindsey Graham saying he jumped on the trump train because he wanted to remain relevant. 🤮

Perhaps the crime is ours for not rising to the occasion.

Got any evidence that it began in, or was confined to, "the last century"?
I suspect greed and power were the motivations for the followers who hoped to keep trump in power. Their goal is to destroy our democracy no matter the circumstances or consequences.
Misery loves company.
The Sheila's are in agreement!
Spot on!
Misery loves company.
Thank you for explaining all of this to us. It's all so overwhelming and exhausting.
A chicken coop you say, are you referring to the Trump White House… because it seems a lot of chickens there who don’t recall a friggin thing, and a whole lotta caca left everywhere! Or, that structure in your back yard…
I'm will be laughing all day about your comment
I've got two things to say:
1. Thank you, Joyce, for showing how the walls are continuing to close in on Trump.
and...
2. The new chicken coup looks totally awesome!

On the Brite side, nice home for your chicks!
Thank you so much for your clarity of such complex issues! You are a Star in these dark times! 👍👏
Man I appreciate your report here!
Are the chickens "counting coupe?"

Nice digs for the chickens and the other stuff was pretty good too. It is nice to see progress being made.

What a terrific fact filled educational article!

I wonder if EJC had the DNA on her dress tested way back when. So there already would have been proof.
I would like to propose that “executive privilege” as it applies to the Trump administration be only used in reference to
the former POTUS’ proclivity for crapping in gold plated toilets.
😂
Chickens are going to love their new palatial home! We love it, too!
