Both Trump and Alito have gotten away with a lot of mischief and bad behavior, possibly even criminal actions. I fear a worsening trickle-down effect if Americans continue to see people in high places facing no consequences for their unethical and illegal behavior. We're already seeing it among too many Members of Congress.

Let’s hope there is a fair response beyond the political atmosphere that honors the rule of law.

I try not to be judgmental or make comments about how women choose their wardrobes, but does that, um, representative from Georgia ever wear anything with sleeves? I mean, Congress is not Hooters and she’s not a waitress.

OK, I’ve been holding that in for a long time. Thank you for letting me vent.

Wouldn’t matter what you would choose to rant about her, it is all true. This guy “dump” brought out all the nasty people he could find. I hate that (whomever is responsible, I say the Media) chooses to give them coverage, we have others called “Democrats” that have plenty to say that is important and true. The crap r’s give us are “pipe dreams”. I don’t understand how they keep all the lies straight. What a f***ing Mess they have made. Absolutely none of what they do makes any sense... but then that is NOT they’re goal is it. All local news shows should do a rundown of everything that is happening to tfg. There are so many that are not even aware of what is going on. If they don’t use a computer and google stuff or care.... we need to put it in front of them NOW. It is so hard to believe that the r’s have let it happen. This has to end SOON... 🇺🇸

Ruth, Listen to Michael Moore’s podcast toady. It is BRILLIANT. Dr. Mike. You will not regret it....💙

Would you supply the link please. I find a “Dr. Mike” podcaster whose last name isn’t Moore. I find “Rumble with Michael Moore” who is the film maker.

So I am confused.

Totally. And you’re welcome. May I just add that so far as her clothes, ‘everyone’s entitled to their own bad taste.’ I hope knowing that will help you cope. She is a bit coarse.

ummm... personally, I'd call her something other than "a bit coarse", but yeah, agreed.

I originally wrote " the chick from Georgia " but decided to show more decorum than she does. I do think I know the coarser word you're thinking of, but that would be insulting to breeding female dogs. Marge Three Names is in a class, a very low one, all on her own.

Out of sheer curiosity, I checked out heer FB page the other day, in which she posted a video of her muscular self lifting a dumbell, with her booty to the camera. She loves to show off her cred as a gym rat, which is about all she is qualified for. And a dumbell lifting a dumbell, ass-first, tells you everything you need to know about her.

That is probably something you can't unsee 😨

How one represents ones self at their place of employment has a lot to do with respect and judgement, none of which exists for the congressional hooters waitress. That is really all she is qualified to do, actually. She is certainly not qualified to be a congresswoman.

College psychology taught the concept "all behavior is meaningful." I'm pondering about MTG. What is the meaning to her of her behavior? Does it reflect her deeply held values? Is it a ploy to feed her narcissistic need for attention? Is it to prove her toughness to get the VP nomination? Miss Marjorie, what is the meaning of your behavior? What do you hope to gain with your loud, vulgar, dishonest actions? What's in it for you??

Perhaps a distraction so that no one will think about why as a representative she needed a pardon for the events of January 6th.

Everything I would suppose. That never ending need for self gratification, to “prove” herself “better” than she is, to crow with glee at becoming Donald’s VP? I do think William’s assessment of her potential for Roller Derby is spot on. And his comment concerning testing for steroids? Well that explains a lot!!!

Expand full comment

And I must add, Michael’s suggestion of simple distraction is viable - if those guys asked for pardons for Jan. 6, they must be wallowing in fear right along with Donald right about now! If he goes down, they all - including MTG- go with him.

Well, with Alito and Thomas as shining examples of The Supremes, I’d say anyone in any of the lower courts would have right much leeway in deciding whether or not to recuse. Good reasons, bad reasons; why bother with ethics at all? See how easy it is for things to go to Hell when personal integrity is lacking at the top? The rot is systemic now.

As to the MAGA Repubs wanting to impeach Joe Biden for impropriety in the possibility that he was involved somewhat in his son's business dealings overseas, they have not been able to turn anything discovered into actual proof. On the other side of the coin, former President trump definitely helped to enrich his daughter Ivanka during his initial visit to China when she was granted all of those trademarks for her fashion business. So, if the Republican House members want to score points in an impeachment, perhaps they missed their opportunity because trump is no longer President, thankfully, but he is definitely an emoluments criminal. Carry on!

Expand full comment

For a good PR stunt, i would like to see ads that mirror and amplify ACTUAL misconduct by the trump admin, juxstaposed against the innuendoes against Biden and Hunter.

Add to what Bill McGuire wrote here:

trump hired his unqualified son-in-law to be his Middle East advisor, and that son-in-law then got

$2 Billion for his personal investment firm

from Saudi prince Mohammed bin Salman, the guy who approved the plan to have journalist Jamal Khashoggi murdered.

Contrast and compare! Hmm!

Expand full comment

That's an excellent idea, plus Kushner was denied a security clearance 3 times or more & only received one when trump demanded it. That created a security problem right there. I don't forget that Kushner's father spent time in prison for his crooked ways; and the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. The answer to where Kushner got the funds to shore up his property at 666 Fifth Ave. in NYC. The whole deal smells fishy, but Qatar was involved to the tune of $1.1 billion that rented the place to Brookfield Asset Mgmt. for 99 yrs, paid upfront and in full??? Is that NOT an unusually sweet deal? When did this transpire? August 2018. Qatar Investment Authority later denies any involvment, even though they are the 2nd largest investors in Brookfield Asset Mgmt., but I guess they have so much money that they don't remember small things like this with the son-in-law of the president less than 2 yrs into his presidency. Remember that white house officials including Chief of Staff Kelly & White House counsel McGahn both argued against Kushner receiving a security clearance. Trump stepped in and in a fit of rage got it handled, and later denied any involvement. Go figure. Nothing to see here, nope.

Indeed. But let’s not blame Jared for his own father’s misdeeds; there’s plenty of direct Jared mischief to ponder!

Now let’s get someone to fund that PR campaign. Maybe Michael Moore could do a short film.

Where’s Jimmy Breslin to write The Firm that Couldn’t Brief Straight? You don’t often see a motion that is much a self-own as this. “The Judge has said nasty things about January 6 (which was a perfect peaceful protest) and it was my idea, so she’ll say nasty things about me.” If I were trapped in a cave with the water rising, I’d concentrate on treading water harder with my mouth shut.

Is there a way to challenge an impeachment proceeding similar to a motion to dismiss or a demurrer so that the moving party has to at least allege a valid high crime or misdemeanor?

Second, re the 2nd Amendment. We did not have a standing militia at the time of the founding and the drafting of the Constitution which is why there is a 2nd Amendment. However, since every state now has a militia....the National Guard, should not there be a clarification of the 2d Amendment so that it does not relate to non-military personnel ownership of arms?

I find this impeachment display to be infuriating and disrespectful magical thinking. This is supposed to be a rare and serious action with evidence that the ex-president deserved twice (we heard and saw him in action) but it has been trivialized to random bullying.

Thank you, Joyce for this important article summarizing the stupidity of the vengeful MAGAs in trying to impeach President Biden with no plausible evidence. I have a legal question. Are the people (citizens of the United States over the age of 18) allowed to sue the House of Representatives for failure to pass any meaningful legislation - as the 118th Congress has failed to submit any legislation - and to further waste our taxpayer dollars on an Impeachment hearing that has no valid evidence and one which they probably will not be able to pass with 218 votes?

It seems to me the request for the recusal of Judge Chutkan (and probably of any Judge who might replace her, are just stalling tactics by Trump's legal team. If they don't like the judges, they shouldn't commit the crimes.

Expand full comment

The idea of suing the House of Representatives is interesting. None of us would last a month in our jobs if we didn't perform our duties. First a verbal warning, then a written warning, then a suspension, then termination. That's the rule for the majority of us.

Hello, America. WE are the employers. Time to terminate the employment of Senators and Representatives who aren't doing their jobs!

Expand full comment

Thank you Cheryl. They swear an oath to protect and defend us, then kiss up to the money supplied through lobbyists to work against us. At least the 118th do-nothing Congress hasn't been able to pass anything for their sweethearts in the oligarchy either. I resent paying out $238,380,000 dollars in Congressional salaries alone over a two year period and get nothing in return.

I don’t think the Americans who fought and those who died in the Second World War did it out of blind fealty to one man. In fact they fought against the idea of a one man dictator or tyrant. They fought for their country, regardless of what they felt about the man in the White House. They also fought for the guys next to them. Some fought even when they were mistreated at home. But they all fought for their country and its democratic republic. How has the Republican Party fallen so far from who we are as a country to support what so many fought and died fighting against?

Unlike Alito who should recuse himself, Chutkin will not, in my opinion.

As someone, last January, who anxiously watched and waited while House Freedom Caucus extremists were extracting concession after concession from Kevin McCarthy as he desperately attempted to get enough votes to become Speaker, I rightly feared that far-right extremists would be setting the agenda for the next two years. If, like me, anyone is interested in a project currently underway aimed at peeling away the 30 or so House Republicans who privately abhor the extremists who are holding the Party hostage and who would be willing to join with Democrats for a vote to vacate the Speakership and find a consensus Republican who owes nothing to the MAGA faction, you can contact Substack host Jerry Weiss at FeathersOfHope.net.

I appreciate what seems a fair assessment of the issues at hand in tonight’s newsletter. 45’s vicious calling card is known to all of us and we know what he is trying to do. It’s on the judge to see through and clarify the injustice of this prank. Also we need to put more pressure on the Supremes to stand up and fly right. Do they not see the beating republicans will experience in the upcoming elections despite their flawed fake banter? They’ve given us the fuel we need to succeed and we can at least thank them for that. They’ve got nothing but nothing but innuendo to distract from the real issues that need to be addressed. It’s a shameful display of stupidity. I feel so much better after reading your thoughts tonight and look forward to some positivity amidst the hateful rhetoric (aka noise) 🇺🇸🗽

Mega Republicans represent nothing but corruption. They are literally abusing

their power for Trump. This is irrational behavior and its not governing for the people. Just the idea of impeaching Biden, is outrageous. To shut down the government, if McCarthy isn't compliant with their demands and take out on the American people, is inhumane and evil. The majority of seniors rely on their Social Security to live on. Representative Jeffries should have a press conference to inform the American people. This behavior by mega Republicans is unacceptable. They have to voted out office in 24.
