I saw someone who had done formal portrait settings for their chickens several years ago, and thought it was a great idea! But I have no idea how you get the chickens to behave.
Don’t give them the cracked corn until they line up. They get it very quickly. And my dachshund used to get in the center of them to on each side of him.
Build a “set” and put them in it. Or create an infinity table. Put them in place and let them do their thing. Camera on a tripod with remote. Constant studio lighting so no bright flashes.
Joyce. Apparently I’m not able to send a photo here. So I’ve changed my profile pic to show you a formal chicken portrait. For concept only. (Not my photo)
Love the chickens! And the chicken stories! I'm in Austin but Tribune Fest is not in my budget this year. Our crookedTexas Republican lege will be a big topic. Yuck! So embarrassed to be a Texan! More than usual.
Chickens! Sorry about your cherry tomatoes. Ours are being devoured by a sassy squirrel. Great job on Lawrence’s show tonight. I hope the travel means good knitting time this week.
I laughed out loud per the Jeffrey Clark public sounding proffer. Lawrence was having a hard time from laughing as well. We like our law commentary factual & funny!!!
My mom had pet jungle fowl - two roosters, Genghis and Attila, and a flock of hens (all named Sylvia) - they were vigilant bug eaters and endlessly entertaining.
Diversion appreciated so very much. Bless you. Don’t suppose you could find a way to kick Tuberville’s can all the way across the country (Gitmo maybe) to get our military secure. I no longer believe his agenda is as stated. Paranoia has set in; worried about collusion with Russia or other perhaps Domestic terrorists. The only thing keeping me relatively sane is I doubt he has the intelligence to pull off a real adversarial event. Thoughts? How he is in Senate and Doug Jones is not is chilling!
I could not have been more delighted to see this pop up on my phone tonight. You are a rock star in my house, just like the chickens are to you in theirs. (That’s the highest compliment by the way.) Cheers to Leeda, Toot, Omeleta, Guida, and Scotch! And to all of the other furry kids in you home. Humans too.
Dear Joyce - you made my day with your sweet comments on your adorable chicks and home on the range. The px are really great. The surprise eggs are a wonder and comfort to all of you I’m sure. I hope one of these days you’ll publish a book with all the px you’ve shared with us about this paradise you live in every day. My heart is better off knowing the kind of role model you are for living life to its fullest and with the utmost dignity and joy. Can’t wait to hear the Sisters in Law podcast from Austin 🎉🇺🇸🗽🌻🥳❤️
Thank you so much! I love this type of update. 🥰
Thanks for the chicken pics and the lovely eggs hiding in the greenery. All so bucolic and a great break from the news!
It's beautiful there, isn't it? Now I want a garden like Joyce's, plus some chickens! Very peaceful and lovely photos. :)
Beautiful and lovely, and a peaceful garden.
But I doubt it is totally peaceful. With Tofu, Harry, with Scotch supervising and keeping in order the motley crew of Leeda, Toot, Omeleta, and Guida.
Entertaining!
And the flowers prosper in part because Leeda, Toot, Omeleta and Guida weed the garden.
A happy, entertaining coop.
I am a professional photographer. I would like to do a formal portrait sitting with the chickens. Each individually.
Yes. It is a real thing. 😊
Critters, especially birds, make wonderful subjects.
Msg me and let me know what you think.

😂😂 our dog Bailey posed in our formal family photo and it was work to get a great shot, we all laughed once it was over. He was a real ham.

sorry, 'two' on each side of him....
Do you have any experience at rounding up chickens? 😄
Getting them to behave is the easy part.
food. that's how you get them to hang around long enough for a portrait. ☺️
Build a “set” and put them in it. Or create an infinity table. Put them in place and let them do their thing. Camera on a tripod with remote. Constant studio lighting so no bright flashes.
Shoot a lot and cull the results.

Al, check out photographer Stephanie Mohan in Fairfax, CA. She does wonderful portraits of people with chickens.
Thanks. I did and she does great work.

Totally understand that sentiment.
Right, as a former Floridian I’m pained as tx & fl continue their race to the nether regions of life 🤬

Yep, that was a good show!

Safe travels, Joyce! Enjoyed seeing you and the Sisters with Alex Wagner last week too!
We had so much fun together! Glad you enjoyed it.
Yes, that was such a treat to see the Sisters- In-Law!! What a trio!!😄
It was wonderful to see the four of them together. Alex seemed delighted.
Maybe The Sisters in Law should raffle off a lunch w them. Id buy a ticket!
Or a girls luncheon on Zoom!! We could all be there!
Love it all!!
Now most especially we need more Chicken-Art, surprises, and most definitely lighter touches & HUMOR.
I LIVE in Austin & am Texas-Native who gardens, so do speak up if you want to take in a few unique sites.
(Ya’ know -- don’t be surprised if you notice Texans still in partial recovery re the Paxton debacle finale. That’s not our natural mind-state.
Gratefully = The Texas Tribune in some ways helped us manage & channel sheer rage day-to-day of the recent very public duration.)
The TX Tribune 👏

I think I would have liked your Mom. Sounds like a wonderful sense of humor!
My good friend names ALL of the wild rabbits who live in his back yard "George." 'Oh, there's George....'
Just what we needed after a weekend of maga flooding the zone with s*it. Thank you :)
LOL!

You can say that again. I high roller bought and paid for and no smarts.
Just what we all need to feel better - life is NOT all about the usual crap! Chickens (and others) make it all worthwhile.
Thank you, Joyce, I love this post so much! Wonderful photos! You were great on Lawrence O’Donnell’s show & beautiful always!
Thank you, Joyce. This helps heal my heart!

If there are chickens, things can't be that bad I think. Thank you,Joyce!
