Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) not only chairs the House Judiciary Committee in the new Congress, he’s also running the newly created United States House Judiciary Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.
Yes, yours is a great one Jennifer John! And as a supplement to this discussion everyone needs to take a look at the “shape” of Ohioan Jordan’s severely gerrymandered Congressional District in Ohio! Unbelievable!
You bring up an important issue that deserves its own subcommittee. The abolition of Gerrymandering. Gerrymandering is an accepted way to “steal” elections and must be eliminated. Which House Committee should be required to take that on?
The Disgraced Roberts Court has declared partisan gerrymandering cannot be reviewed by Federal Courts. Only state courts can do this.
“On June 27, 2019, the Supreme Court, by a 5 to 4 vote, ruled that claims of unconstitutional partisan gerrymandering are not subject to federal court review because they present non-justiciable political questions, removing the issue from the federal court’s purview. In Rucho v. Common Cause and Lamone v. Benisek (hereafter Rucho) the Court viewed the Elections Clause of the Constitution as solely assigning disputes about partisan gerrymandering to the state legislatures, subject to a check by the U.S. Congress.”
So these super legislators claiming to be a court have declared that partisan red states can secure their undemocratic authoritarian grip on government in perpetuity.
Jim Jordan has the audacity to fire off a letter to AG Merrick Garland in which he calls the President of the United States "former Vice President Joe Biden" and requests things he is not entitled to.
Garland patiently responds in a courteous, well-reasoned manner, crafting several paragraphs which could be reduced to three words - "Go Pound Sand"
I only wish he had somehow addressed Representative Jordan as "Former law school attendee".
I don't have any suggestions for renaming or nicknaming or acronyming that subcommittee, sorry.
What I do have is my own name for your substack. I'm sure you put a fair amount of time into landing on Civil Discourse, but I call it "We're in this together" because that's how it feels when I read you.
Carry on and bless your heart (no subtext), Joyce.
Simple! Just call it the Subcommittee to Protect Donald Trump (and everyone who supports him.) Or maybe Subcommittee to Own the Democrats. SOD does seem appropriate for these sodding creatures!
How about the House Judiciary Select Subcommittee on The Pot Calling the Kettle Black.
Here's a P.S. for the DOJ letter to Jordan . By the way Jordan as a co-conspirator of January 6 and other matters under investigation by the Special Prosecutor , you probably should recuse yourself-- Just a thought --have a nice day.
I’d rename the subcommittee the “Bluster and Obstruction of Justice for Self-Service Subcommittee” - that’s precisely what it is.
For anyone who wants an interesting history lesson on how dangerous obstruction from within the halls of Congress can be if not stopped, I encourage listening to Rachel Maddow’s Ultra podcasts. It is a true jaw dropping reminder of how corrupt, lazy and fearful politicians can protect those determined to turn the country upside down.
Alter the “on the weaponization of” ... to “TO WEAPONIZE”, and will likely be a little closer to the mark! There is little to no ethical foundation with these folks who will use propaganda & false claims to try and shield / distract from the truth.
You are quite right, Joyce. Jordan is a wannabe lawyer.
I might quibble with your conflicting earlier statement that Jordan is "actually a lawyer". Going to law school does not make you one. Nor does passing the bar exam. Being admitted to the bar makes you one.
And along with being a member of the bar come certain responsibilities, most importantly adhering to a Code of Ethics. Jordan is not subject to such a Code, and he can therefore mouth off, showboat, pretend he is a lawyer (so long as he does not go so far as to practice law with a license), and behave outside the bounds of ethics. We should always remember that, for all his faux outrage, he was credibly accused of behaving irresponsibly when he was the assistant wrestling coach at OSU. That should never drop off his public resumé.
Yeah, the House has its Ethics Committee, but that is pretty much a Paper Tiger.
The Subcommittee to Obstruct Biden, silly. Or simply put: “The SOBs.”

Fantastic question🎉
Thank you for your efforts under such terrible constraints!!

Pathetic. But of course we can’t expect any other decision from the Roberts court.
So great Jennifer John! 😆👍
Like the SOBs and fitting too!
✅
Only dog mothers.
Yikes. Are you OK? Take a deep breath . . .
Are you Annette Bening's sister?
...Subcommittee on the Politicizing Everything Weaponization...(SPEW Committee)
The Spew Committee, wins my vote and they could use the emoji 🤢🤮🤢🤮
you nailed it, Colleen.

Jordan has no class or ability to lead.
love it
Thanks for pointing that out Jonathan -- I missed seeing his name for President Biden.
The ugly disrespectfulness of Jim Jordan. He lacks gravitas, intellect and displays profound lack of self awareness and incompetence.

The Fraud Squad
Because he and what he is doing is a fraud
How Fraud Cult
Every time I look at "Fraud Cult" I see "Foucault" and crack up. Maybe this is just me . . . ?
The Fraud Squad is great too.

The Subcommitee to Protect Donald Trump could then be just called "SumpDump."
Nailed it!
Perfect, Sandy.

Yes that is an excellent - and frightening - podcast.
BOJSSS, for short.
Select Subcommittee to Destroy Democracy (SSDD)
Committee to Obstruct and Weaponise, or COW for short.
Committee to Obstruct and to Weaponize Arrogant Republican Demonizing Sycophants (COWARDS)
Even better!
Devin Nunes' Nemesis!
Nice
Where’s the special prosecutor for Pence? He was found with classified documents and is clearly running for President.
And was more recently a vice-president, so more likely to have currently-relevant information.
https://www.justice.gov/doj/webform/your-message-department-justice One can always send the suggestion, very politely.

The Committee on the Weaponization of Weaponization has a nice ring to it, plus it goes around in circles -- as I expect the COWW will do.
Committee name , Ministry of Fear
"The Special Subcommittee to Promote the Obstruction of Justice."
". . . to Obstruct the Promotion of Justice" also works.
It does indeed!
House Selective Memory Committee
