Yes, so thankful that NC elected a team of strong leaders for this critical juncture in our democracy. JEFF JACKSON, Atty Gen; JOSH STEIN, Governor; RACHEL HUNT, Lt Gov; MOGREEN, Superintendent of Public Schools are all 4 strong Democratic leaders working hard for North Carolinians. I will never figure out how Harris/Walz lost the North Carolina election………..???

So rewarding to see the courts stand up to injustice. Sadly, they cannot defeat hatred. Brown v. Bd of Education stopped segregation … but it only encouraged more virulent racism. Trump welcomed back both hatred and virulence. WE must follow up and create a place where justice can return.

I am WORRIED, TERRIFIED of President Zelensky going to meet Trump in Saudi Arabia. Why meet there? I am worried it’s another trap and he won’t make it out alive. Remember what happened to Khashoggi?

Am I wrong to feel this way?

We need to ALL call the House Republicans and inform them NOW! They are being blindsided. Tell them Trump/Vance and Musk need to be STOPPED. They are destroying our democracy under the false guise of efficiency & cutting waste.

Mario, you’re not alone in your fear. Zelenskyy is really smart, and I think he is aware of the potential traps potentially being set up. Trump and Putin would really be stupid to set him up at this point - there are too many of us who don’t trust either of them. Terrible move on both of them.

I don’t have the answer, but Putin and Trump aren’t that stupid and neither is Zelenskyy. Most of the Western World saw the trap set by trump and vance when Zelenskyy’s visit to sign a peace deal was highjacked.

Well Marlo, in addition to courts saying "No'" the stock market is also saying "No" -- "No" to brainless tariffs as the DOW was down🔻 another 1% today (.99)🔻 3/6/25.

The recent Supreme Court decision on one of the suits was 5-4. That is terrifying. It shows how close we are to anarchy. If four of the justices do not understand the Constitution, what can we do? They likely can't be impeached (though at least three of the most corrupt of them deserve just that) and, given the current holder of the Oval Office, any retirements would only be replaced with even worse candidates, who would be rubber stamped by the Senate. While it might also hurt justices who are seated by a normal president and Senate (and there is nothing normal about the current situation) it is time for both term limits and age limits for Supreme Court justices.

Then, we contact our Democratic State Attorney General, Kwame Raoul, and the relevant State Treasurer, State Director of Public Health, or State Director of Education about the topic of the day. It's very important if you are contacting your elected Senators and Reps in DC, you also contact your State Attorney General. If we learn that musk is planning to travel out of DC, it would probably be to SFO where he has a home and businesses in Silicon Valley. I believe one of the most important thing to focus on right now is to urge all congress to reject the SAVE act. It would disenfranchise millions of people, predominantly women. Then the other most important thing is to focus on saving Social Security.

How would the SAVE Act impact US Citizens?

Under the Republican proposal, common forms of identification, including a driver's license, would become insufficient for voter registration because they don’t prove citizenship. Real ID licenses in most states indicate someone's legal status but do not show whether they are a U.S. citizen or green card holder.

Instead, the bill would require those registering to vote to either present a valid passport or a photo ID that matches the name on their birth certificate or naturalization card.

Only about half of U.S. citizens have a passport, according to the U.S. Department of State.

Voting rights advocates have expressed concern that people who have changed their name and who do not have passports could run into roadblocks in the process of registering to vote because the name on their ID likely no longer reflects the name on their birth certificate.

About 79% of women in opposite-sex marriages take the name of their spouse, according to a 2023 study by Pew Research, whereas most married men – 92% – keep their own last name.

I have called my senators, but now there are so many things to object to that I don't know what to say. Any suggestions?

Expand full comment

I call my representative several times a week. As I'm watching the news I jot down 2 or 3 things that especially upset me & call & tell the office person how I feel. I've called so often they recognize my name. I apologize for being a pest but they always tell me that it's fine to call in as often as I want. I told one young lady that I was sure there was a star next to my name for being such a pest & the next time I called in she said, "Oh, your the person that said you should have a star next to her name!" So you build rapport with the office staff. That helps I think.

They keep records of the items & atrocities that people complain about & they give them to the congressperson. They need that data. Usually if you call more than once about a subject it doesn't necessarily get counted again but they still pass on your views. Like I said they need data to give your rep so that they can be forceful when presenting their case in the halls of Congress.

Jocelyn, I hate calling strangers too, but remember that our representatives are not strangers: they are elected to represent US, (even when we didin't vote for them). In order for them to do that, we have to let them know what's important to us- even when we know they are already on it, our repeated calls give their work credibility in the eyes of the rest of their colleagues- and in their own. This is true even if the person you are calling is a Republican. Gradually, they seem to be moving away from the lock-step, and the more they hear us tell our stories and why a particular issue matters to you, the more it may make them rethink their position.

Expand full comment

If they're Democrats, say thank you. If they're Republicans, tell them to go to hell.

Expand full comment

Many of the Dems don't deserve thanks. Please tell them to pull their heads out and stop being such weenies and cowards.

We DESPERATELY need a real Senate leader. Schumer is worthless (and sadly, Jeffries doesn't seem much better). Pelosi NEVER would have allowed ten of the cowardly congresscritters to suck up to the GQP criminals and sanction a fellow Dem for doing MUCH LESS than the GQP did multiple times in the recent past.

Expand full comment

I find it astounding (and nearly unbelievable) that the party whips can't protect against this sort of rubbish. Even if they are Dems in seats on skinny margins, there are some principles that are a bit more important, aren't there? Perhaps not - the only thing a pollie cares about is their re-election.

Expand full comment

It took Pelosi years to develop the influence and power she had. She had her style which worked for her. Schumer is hardly worthless: he works in a different way (and is a Senator now). As for Jeffries, give it time. He's doing more than the DNC rigth now in terms of keeping people informed and engaged. I don't know what the reasoning was behind the 10 Dem votes, and suspect that it likely is because they are trying to retain the possibility of collaboration across the aisle- something we are going to need. Are we going to cling to our indignation every time somebody does something that upsets us? Waste of energy. Loss of opportunity because if that's all people hear, they stop listening. And that includes people trying to get some really critical things done to help us keep our democracy. Join a group like Indivisible and do something positive. Please. We need you with us, not against us.

1st object to the SAFE Act as it is voter suppression.

2nd encourage aide to Ukraine. Putin is a dictator, a war criminal a liar, a murderer and he invaded a sovereign country.

The United States, UK & Russia signed the Budapest Memorandum in 1994. Ukraine agreed to give up its huge stash of nuclear warheads to Russia & Russia promised never to invade Ukraine 🇺🇦. Putin broke the agreement. He has broken many. Ukraine is our ally. We are losing are allies. 70% in France said they don’t trust the United States.

3. Ask them if they want to give up our democracy for an unbalanced dictator?

It only took Hitler a short time to change Germany’s democracy into a supreme dictatorship. Do you want your children to grow up in that environment?

4. A democracy has 3 independent branches of government. Trump is illegally trying to be King, ignoring the other branches.

He is ignoring laws. He and Vance need to be impeached. Your job is to act on behalf of the country, your constituents, not Trump. Ignore his empty threats. The people are protesting Trump, Vance & Musk all over the country. If you keep supporting him, you won’t be re-elected.
