Thank you for wrapping grim news in chickens and kittens! It really helps.

Joy Holtz's avatar

Martha, when someone feeds me bad news I teasingly ask if they can wrap it with “more rainbows and ponies.” I now have a new favorite. Thank you!

Hi Joyce, If someone had told me a couple of years ago that looking at pix of chickens from Joyce Vance would be one of my fav things in 2023, I would not have believed it. But I love these posts (and the legal ones, too). Big thanks from a fan of your whole menagerie.

My favorite thing would be Donald getting plucked.

Steve Lord 1's avatar

When indictments come out against Trump, my mind immediately visualizes the sight and sound of bacon frying.

Plucking. sizzling, it's all good, right?

MaryB of Pasadena's avatar

Except bacon is one of God’s greater gifts. I want no association made with that other obnoxious pig. Even served cold with revenge sauce, I’d spit him out.

Blowing the whistle on bacon! 'Yes, bacon really is killing us'

'Decades worth of research proves that chemicals used to make bacon do cause cancer. So how did the meat industry convince us it was safe?'(theguardian) See link below.

Sorry, MaryB, sometimes the truth hurts.

I side with the hog. They are wonderful creatures.

Pigs are smarter than the trump cult. they are not a "gift from god" to eat, which is probably why pork is so bad for you.

SCREAMING!!! Completely agree.

Years ago, I rented a house that had a chicken coop on the property that was over 100 years old. In the coop, there was a nesting box that was very old. So, we bought an incubator, and chicken eggs from a company in the mid-west, and hatched our own baby chicks.

Soon, a feral cat moved in and had kittens in the nesting box.

The cat, kittens and chickens lived happily together.

Your pictures remind me of that wonderful time years ago for me and my then young children!

I don't have any photos of my four rabbits cuddling with an unknown cat on a cold day, but honestly I think my memories of that are more precious than any photo could be.

Peaceable Kingdom 2023 style! Love your pics of chickens and your family but I am a fanatical cat lover. Please keep the Tofu pics coming! (Also Harry. Maine Coons are the best!)

I see your son is wearing an LLBean T shirt. I've been buying my clothes from them for years.

---

In the game of chicken, the smart one is the one who swerves. The "brave" one is just dumb. So chickens are smart.

Bill Alstrom (MA/Maine/MA)'s avatar

I wear a specific LL Bean shirt every day - in several colors. And two types of "Bean Boots". The stuff lasts forever.

As a former Mainer, it has distressed me that Linda Bean continues to support the Orange Clown. Boycotts won't hurt her. She is rich and will be rich even if LL Bean were to go belly up. Which would be unfortunate for all the employees and the state as whole.

https://fdra.org/latest-news/trumps-l-l-bean-tweet-draws-more-controversy/

But it feels like having a sister who is a Trump supporter. How do you reconcile that?

kdsherpa's avatar

UGH. I didn't know that. I have boycotted Publix and Overstock ever since I learned of their loyalty to the orange sadist.

Bill Alstrom (MA/Maine/MA)'s avatar

Understood. Same feelings here.

But sometimes boycotts don't hurt the intended target. If we reduce sales at Publix or Home Depot all we hurt is the employees who will be fired. We won't hurt the Publix heiress at all. And we won't hurt billionaire putz Bernie Marcus either.

Plus, Publix has the best fried chicken!

kdsherpa's avatar

You make an excellent point. I've always thought of it as a way to hit the billionaires in the pocketbook. Sadly, as you point out, it's the "little people" who will pay the price -- and the billionaires as a result won't lose a red cent. (Love your comment about the friend chicken! In that vein, I have JUST learned to cook fried chicken using NO OIL! Apparently it's the Japanese way of "frying" chicken. Buy chicken with skin still on; heat it on high for several minutes, skin side down; then lower and heat and cover it for around 15-20 minutes. At the very end, flip the meat over to briefly sear the other side. It's amazing!)

Bill Alstrom (MA/Maine/MA)'s avatar

Thanks for the inspirational recipe!

Bill I feel exactly the same way about Ms Bean. Love the company’s products and customer service but despise her support for him/MAGA. And LLBean employs so many people up here and in many ways is a valuable community partner.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

I'm a 3rd-generation LLBean customer, but I confess, I buy less from them than I used to. Politics has nothing to do with it, however. Duluth Trading (clothes) and Keen (footwear) tend to have better quality.

You are so generous with your life and your love for living! Chickens sure make me giggle, and you, too. Keep enjoying and hope sharing.

Joyce, I’ll repeat my question from your last post, because it may have been buried in a long list of comments. How can the Alabama Legislature get away with ignoring the Supreme Court’s ruling?

I have some interest in Alabama as I have family there. My daughter and two grandchildren live in Northport. We last visited in May and had the best weather possible. Temps in the 70’s and low 80’s , no humidity!

Michael Stayton's avatar

Is the Alabama Legislature playing chicken?

Joyce, amidst our troubles, along with your guidance through legal terminology, indictments, court cases, mishegas, etc., you are a breath of fresh air, giver of care on many levels and a mentor concerning the lives of chickens! Thank you!

The coming indictment of Trump for election interference and Jan. 6th's attack of The Capitol is the big one that we have been waiting for!

Here's a very short and delightful pause on one of the many excruciatingly hot Climate Crisis days around the world.

I like the small tables and the small benches prepared for your chicken. Lol! Tks

I just focused on those mini picnic tables in today's pics, although I think they have been in previous photos we've seen.

Love the chickens, the kid and the cat! And of course, the outcome of this crazy day in DC. When you have it!

Oh! And I hope you had a good birthday weekend!

With apologies to many before me, I paraphrase an old saying, It’s a good day to indict.

Or ... I love the smell of indictment in the morning

Slightly longer chicken videos, please.
