It is sad that Trumpers grabbed inflation as their issue. simplistically, inflation is not caused by the government, but by shortages of goods, increases in demand, profiteering corporations, and the mechanics of our capitalistic private economy. Once sellers have covered their costs, a modest profit is acceptable. Sellers like to raise their prices until it affects demand, and when supplies are short, that allows Sellers to reap great profits. Yet, the GOP blames Biden, without ever indicating what they would do except cut taxes. AND, there is a proven but uncomfortable rule of economics that is never publicly discussed by politicians; " the return on labor is less than the return on capital," i.e., the owners of the company will always make more than the employees and laborers. Taxes on the rich is one way to correct for the profiteering and rebalance the scales

Thanks for sharing the chicks. They are the highlight and remind me there are wonderful beautiful things to enjoy during these frightening times.

Thank you, Joyce for again explaining the

reasons Mr. Garland is not jumping the

gun and indicting at this moment. There's

an old saying, beware the patience of the

silent man. If anyone here has read about

Mr. Garland's history through the judicial

system, he will not rush to a hasty end,

but will build an airtight case. And let's

not forget, there are other cases against

Trump. Some of this spaghetti thrown

at the wall is sticking. We just have to

be patient.

My first thought upon viewing your chickie photo was: Oh my gosh, chicken poop in her hair!

Thanks for the brief distraction.

I can only imagine the horror of the Mesoamericans when the Europeans arrived. Apparently the proliferation of the domestic turkey was due to their popularity as house pets. The newcomers had different ideas. Happy Thanksgiving!

Reminds me of why I became a vegetarian for 35 years! Here's an anecdote you may enjoy. Back in the day, I was married into an extended family of dairy owners. A brother-in-law complained that his children cried whenever it was time to slaughter a cow (when her milk productivity declined.) His tearful daughter said, "Daddy, what can we do?"

His reply, "Do? I'll tell you what we can do. You kids can stop naming the animals. From now on, they will just have numbers."

Sort of bitter-sweet, but memorable.

You can tell who a person is by the way they treat their animals!

Joyce, you are the BEST there is! So sharing!

Love Cleopatra's eyeliner. It is indeed defining. Thank you for the analysis. It's easy to get overwhelmed by how much is going on and how quickly and slowly certain parts of it move. There are times we have to look away and at those times its nice to have Cleopatra and Florence to look at, even briefly, before we get back to the task of understanding what has gone wrong with our democracy and work to fix it. Early voting is open in Florida. Voted on Monday. Felt very good. We are all in this together.

They have plenty to go after trump. The only explanation is Garland is scared (my opinion). Fisher people cannot spend all of their time cutting bait and expect to catch anything. AOC in 2024 just to get rid of Garland if for no other reason.

I don't think Garland is scared. As Ms. Vance and others have explained, in order to secure a criminal conviction you must, must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. That standard is an extremely high bar to get over. Uncorroborated testimony and evidence that doesn't meet standards set out in statutes doesn't come close to meeting guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The bar is set high for a reason, if you want to deprive a person of their liberty and property, or even their life, you need to prove that's what they deserve.

I loathe the 45th president, his policies, his minions, the divisions and hatreds he exacerbated, and for his clear and present danger to our democracy. I'd like nothing more than to never have to hear about or from him ever again. But as the old saying goes, if you aim at the king you better not miss. Charing 45 prematurely and without rock solid evidence only empowers him and those who worship him to keep playing the victim card. Mr. Garland has an impeccable record as a prosecutor, if he isn't filing an indictment, the guilt beyond a reasonable doubt goods aren't there.

I for one, would love to hear Kash Patel’s testimony about how Trump declassified the documents he took to Mar-a-Lago. Did Trump wave a magic wand, a la Harry Potter, and pronounce a magic word over each document? It was it simply, “I hereby declassify all the documents”?

Don’t be silly. It’s Coiciendum! with a wand flourish, or Discribo reversum! with a slowly descending wand. Back to Professor Hermione’s class with you!

My granddaughter loved the 'Oklahoma Baby Chicken Hat' as we call getting a ride on our shoulders! One thing I don't yet understand is your optimism about Patel, Cipollone or Philbin telling the truth just because they are under oath. It seem to me people lie all the time and face little or no consequences. Look at all the trials where witnesses blatantly lied to convict an innocent black man. Please help me understand why one of these characters would be truthful now after building their careers on following Trump and every lie he's uttered.

hahhahhahahha!!!! 😂🤣😘🐥 You have no idea how much I needed to see a gorgeous chick on your head... and the lovely Cleo nestling in your neck.

I confess I'm one who (spurred by inner dread) wishes AG Garland could somehow move faster... just to put tRump out of "our" misery... And yet, I take hope from reading Civil Discourse; it helps me calm down. Breathe. And feel hope again. And proceed with more patience.

Thanks Professor. You really do rock the law.

To not pursue criminal charges against Mr Trump now because it’s election season seems like a get out of jail free card for him to me. This may itself direct the election in a way which is what I thought they were trying to avoid. There’s a cute chick on your head. Makes my day. Thanks.
