A sincere thank you for emotional support chicken pictures.

I would just love to run into a Republican Senator and ask him/her how they could possibly justify voting to seat KP. Did they choose to ignore all the negative stuff like receiving a $25K fee for participating in a Soviet produced anti USA video.

I'm just gobsmacked!!!

Beautiful chickens! Ugly government

Republican, senators and congressman give chickens a bad name. They are much more like weasels.

Expand full comment

I'm afraid they probably give weasels a bad name, too. In my experience, most animals have positive qualities which make them far better than republican politiians.

Thanks Susan.....you're right. My apologies to weasels.

Oh yes, someone should make a painting from that Red Rover photo. It’s gorgeous, he’s gorgeous.

Expand full comment

In fact, I just took a screenshot and then put him on my iPhone screen. Hope that’s okay! Now I’ll see him whenever I open my phone.

Great idea, Pamela. I was wondering how to get him onto something useful. Screenshot it is! Thanks.

Red Rover is a handsome fellla and worthy of being in a painting.

Isn’t he though? He made me take a breath he so beautiful. And that Hellebore is gorge too.

Thank you for identifying the flower. I always appreciate getting identification for plants I don't know.

I swear, for every news article I read, I then look at animal photos and memes, cats, puppies, chickens........

It's helpful.

Moral: spend more time with non-humans.

Unfortunately my non-human is in half the continent away with my son. Looking forward to moving out of the red zone to a blue coast soon.

Also, we have a governor who stood up to the president during a government meeting yesterday. He tried to bully her in front of the media and her colleagues. She didn’t back down. We are so proud of her❣️

“WE’LL SEE YOU IN COURT”

Was her response. 👍🏻

Expand full comment

Proud of her! No Mainer wants to be told “what to do” by someone “from away”!😝

Seriously, ever notice that the Felon only attacks women directly? The lying coward was probably stunned when the Maine Governor stood her ground!💖. DIRIGO!!

Expand full comment

Thank you Priscilla,

I was somewhat disappointed when no other Governor stood up with her. Did that mean that there was no other Governors there that stood for transgender equality????

Or did the bully’s attack intimidate them? 🤷‍♀️

Expand full comment

I continue to lean on your lucid, sane articles as well as the emotional support breaks - thanks for both! Red Rover is spectacular.

Alice,

Here in Maine is plenty of room for you and everyone you would love to bring along. 👍🏻😁

I have long believed that Homo sapiens sapiens is destined to be an evolutionary dead-end, much like the ammonite. We have become too convoluted.

Linda, is convoluted a fancy word for "stupid"? 😇 At the rate we're going, we will end up like the ammonite.

Last night's piece hurt my heart. Those of us from military families feel this intensely and wonder how such a completely incompetent, unqualified person like Hegseth was confirmed. (Yes, I know. The total surrender of any Republican senator who previously had an ounce of integrity.)

Thanks for the smiles this morning!

As a retired Army nurse, my heart aches for the damage to the military that’s already started. I hope that somewhere, at some level, members of our armed forces can hold the line.

From a very old " antique" bed pan jockey, Cathy... I feel your angst, Sister nurse!

God Bless you for your loving service to our valiant troops...

They...and you...are the true unsung HEROS to us all!

Certainly cannot be said of the kalistrocacy crew who ( temporarily) occupy the White House...and halls of congress, ..., without portfolio, cheapen the established history of bright patriotic cabinet appointees...now reduced to merely dim witted synchophants of a despot who seeks a crown...for more than a day...perhaps( in his section 8 mind...i) n perpetuity? Please forgive the rant, Cathy...am much too old to contain.the anger I feel at how our beloved America is being chaotically engulfed by this malignant narcissist.and his smarmy legion of self serving enablers.

There....feel much lighter now!

...thus endeth the rant...

Expand full comment

Lynn, I have no history with the army except being rejected for it, but I, too found last night's post upsetting. I did my own version of a rant. I like the idea of being too old to contain the anger - I think that's a good thing, and I'm there with you.

I'm on the same page, Diana. I've been wondering if our military patriots will see Trump's surrendering of Ukraine - and therefore of Europe- as the last straw and become the saviors of our democratic republic. It seems to me that this surrender to whatever Putin wants is the most dangerous thing Trump is doing. At what point of destruction of democracy and peace could this happen?

Expand full comment

But...but... it's a strong man power move, because we'll get important minerals in exchange for defending Ukraine from Putin! You know Biden gave away that $350 billion in military assistance for free, right? Cost me a whole $2 in federal taxes! (Yeah, total sarcasm here. We are a total failure on the civics education front, and media messaging promotes and celebrates ignorance.)

Expand full comment

Are all of these strongman moves by Trump triggered by his fear of the so-called PEE PEE TAPES becoming public? Is that where we are? 🤔

Expand full comment

Nah. He's too egotistical and stupid to fear Putin, or even recognize that he's being used. He wants to play "strong man" like Vlad (or a mob boss), but lacks the capacity to understand that flattery doesn't equate to respect. trump supporters wouldn't care about peepee tapes, or frankly, anything else he might have done (or is doing). Putin has promised him something huge, like total control over the western hemisphere. But Putin has discipline. Psycho Donny doesn't, and it will make him useless to Vlad at a certain point.

Expand full comment

Diana, I saw links, I think in Andy Borowitz's latest, to articles that pointed out that trump has been groomed by Russia since he married Ivanna in 1977. They've been using him ever since, and he's not smart enough to figure that out.

I would love to take the picture of your red Rover and turn the picture into a puzzle. That is the handsomest chicken I have ever seen. Thank you so much for your chicken pictures. They really make my day.❤️

There is a business called libertypuzzles.com that makes wooden puzzles from your own photograph. Their puzzles are works of art! To do a photo of your own, you need a specific minimum resolution. They are simply works of art.

Expand full comment

Louise, thank you so much for telling me about this. I have a couple of ideas I would love to use for Puzzles so I will look into this company. Thanks again.!

Expand full comment

I find the wood puzzles a bit unforgiving. Harder to fit together but they are beautiful when finished.

Expand full comment

Hi, Alice - Five years ago I had a puzzle made using a wedding photo of my son and daughter-in-law. I did this because it was their fifth anniversary (traditional = wood). Liberty Puzzles uses obviously laser-cut, computer-guided production. They can even remake a puzzle piece if one gets lost. Puzzles are made from 1/4" rather spectacular laminated wood and they include incredibly intricate special pieces (e.g., a figure skater, old man driving a farm wagon, etc.) They even can be ordered with frames to hang the finished puzzle. They're not inexpensive! But they're totally amazing and, during the hours that it took four people to do the assembly, we didn't encounter any pieces that were ill-fitting. I thought the finished puzzle was worth what it cost.

Cool, Louise! I didn’t know about them. I will add them to my list of useful companies.

These are the awesomest fun to do! i have many and have sent many photos that they turned into puzzles.

When I was young, my Grandmother in NC had a number of 🐓. The only thing that bothered me about her chickens was when she went out back to decide which chicken was for dinner. And then what she did to catch that chicken and prepare it for dinner.

I won’t go into details here. I was young and had to look the other way. But even at a young age, I could tell the difference in store-bought chickens and Grandmother’s‘ chickens which were always more flavorful!

Expand full comment

My Grandmother did that too. I have no idea why since she had access to a grocery store. I watched her carry out the deed from start to finish including the plucking. I couldn't eat it.

Expand full comment

Kay, It is nice to hear from someone who shared the same experience. But I do admit that I ate and very much enjoyed Grandmother’s fried chicken! Just don’t tell anyone!🤭

I liked gathering the eggs. I didn't think about where the fried chicken came from. I did eat it. Oops!

What a great idea, Patricia! I absolutely agree about how gorgeous Red is, and what a great puzzle this picture would make!

Thank you, Carol. I’ve been working a lot of puzzles this winter but none of them as pretty as Red Rover. With permission from Joyce, I may try to find someone who will do this.

That would be so wonderful, Patricia! I was an art history major in college, and I agree that Red is iconic. I bet that lots of people would love a puzzle of this picture of Red.

Add me to the one’s doing puzzles to help my sanity and would love to have a puzzle of Red Rover. Maybe it could be done as a fund raiser?
