For those of you who need a little bit of a timeline cleanse this morning, here are chickens, and some good news. Cleo, our chicken who we rescued from a hawk earlier this week, has shown incredible recuperative powers. All of her feathers are growing back and she’s returned to being her feisty self. You can see her in this video, the smaller chick towards the left of the screen, out with her moms and her sister Florence, happily eating away at the winter grass.
Excellent news for Cleo. We should all follow her lead as we strive to recover from the repeated attacks we have been subjected to these past several years!
She's a beauty. Being close to animals is good. I'm sharing this from the newsletter of my dog trainer (Vermont) because I was so moved by it.
"Last year around this time, I was feeling a mix of emotions about where we were as a country. Scared, divided, worried about our loved ones. It's been another year of turmoil for so many of us that has left us feeling just exhausted. I looked then to our dogs for signs of hope and feelings of love and there they were. Our dogs have gotten us out, kept us social, forced us to exercise and just given us moments to revel in the love that only a dog can give. They have brought us together during a time when being together has become a luxury. As we say goodbye to this year, let's reflect on their power and the lessons they have for us that give us hope. Our dogs don't care what color we are. They don't care how much money we make. They don't care who we love, how we identify or what pronoun we use. They don't care if we pray or if we don't. They don't care if you've been vaccinated, masks mean nothing to them and they hate politics. They don't care if we believe in God, or Allah, or Jesus or Santa or the Tooth Fairy. What they DO care about is a good meal, enjoying a delicious bone, a comfortable place to sleep, a yummy treat. They care about being spoken to kindly, with compassion, empathy and respect. They care about romping outside after a fresh snowfall. They care about being touched in a kind a loving way. They care about being loved, and loving, unconditionally. So at a time when things still aren't really ok, these reminders move me a little bit more toward being more OK. That's my wish for us all for 2023."
I think I understand the recuperative powers of raising these sweet birds. At times such as these we all need something like that. I’m going to think about what does that for me. I guess at this stage of my life, 71, it’s looking after friends in my cohort. I take who I can under my wing, but it would be nice to be able to cluck in such a comforting way as that mama hen!
You are so kind to share this good news AND this video that exudes PEACE, calm, and hope. I am grateful for this community of like-minded, kind-hearted, democracy-loving humans. You guys ALL give me tremendous reassurance, just knowing decent people are very much still “out there”. Kudos to you, Joyce, for being our ring leader. I’d love to know where everyone is from. I saw a comment from someone in Sweden, and it warms my heart that this forum can bring us together from near and far.
Thank you, Joyce and chicks! I needed that happy news and video. What beautiful souls your chicks have and what love and care you give them. I wish I were one of your chicks and hope to be one in my next life!!!! Thanks for all you do so exceptionally well. Enjoy a happy holiday!!!
Great news. I enjoy hearing about your pets and it is a welcome break from the turmoil of late. Keep up fight. Your insight and the education you give us on these matters is much appreciated!
