Thank you for making transcripts available. Some of us are better with written discourse, rather than verbal.

Most definitely! I have a severe hearing loss and without being able to see a speaker’s (to lip read) and/or a transcript the content is largely inaccessible for me.

I also have severe hearing loss. I was hoping for transcripts but couldn’t locate any. Instead I listened to the discussion blue toothed through my hearing aids. Both voices came through remarkably well because they are such clear speakers. That was THE best no fluff nor filler conversation I’ve heard maybe ever in politics and law. They have chemistry. While one was talking I could sense the other listening. It was outstanding.

Sadly, most of my loss is in the high frequencies, which makes anyone with higher voices difficult to understand.

Like you I send the audio direct to my hearing aid, which does help.

I feel ya, Cynthia. My hearing loss is also in the high frequencies. My audiologist says I have ‘profound’ hearing loss. The hearing aids don’t help and usually hinder communication, with the exception of watching TV. Streaming works well with the aid of subtitles.

Question: Have you experienced that almost everyone you encounter in public have no understanding of hearing loss? Do people get angry or exasperated with you? Very, very few people I encounter take the trouble to enunciate clearly for me. Is that true for you?

Susan with respect to your question . . . oh yeah big time! If I ask them to face me or “speak clearly” they do it for about one sentence and revert back to not doing it. Or . . . they get angry with me for becoming frustrated when they don’t do those things after being politely asked.

Expand full comment

That’s my experience too. But ninety times out of a hundred the person doesn’t change their speech at all for me. That keeps me saying “what?, what, what?” Until I just give up. It’s like everyone understands being blind, but not being deaf. People have said to me, “That’s funny, you don’t LOOK deaf. “

Cynthia, I can be reached at poncie62@gmail.com if you’d like to talk more on this.

I’ve read some of your other posts. It’s my first time talking to another deafie.

I was going to post that "many can read faster than any can talk so please post a transcript", but apparently I cannot read well at all: where is this transcript?

Expand full comment

I don't now know where to find it. There was kerfluffle over a link to a different Substack with a pricey cost, and..... Sorry. Your comment is EXACTLY how I view transcripts vs the humming-hawing of most news videos

Thank you for the excellent reminder that the leaks are not coming from this DOJ, just another cash grab opportunity for the con man, I hope a gag order accompanies charges when they come.

Watched the Zoom tonight. It was great! Thanks to you both!!!

I also watched this evening & thank you both & Substack for the important analyses.

Before the Zoom, The Guardian's Hugo Lowell reported from multiple sources at "Trump World" that DOJ notified Trump's Attorneys by letter that tfg was a "TARGET" of Jack Smith' prosecution of the Mar-a-Lago document case. Many other outlets have confirmed Hugo's scoop. No denial from Trump World.

QUESTION: What is the criminal & judicial procedural impact on Trump of a prosecutorial TARGET letter. Thank you.

I absolutely do not believe anything anyone says, quoting unidentified reliable sources. I check the DOJ website each day for press briefings. I'll believe it when I see it by watching the press briefings from the DOJ on justice.gov. No MSNBC, no NY Times, no Washington Post. I plan to attempt to stay calm and focused on the many responsibilities of daily life. I really appreciate Joyce's analysis. I practice what DOJ Spokesperson Anthony Coley tweeted: "Let's all take a deep breath and let Smith and his team complete their work. We'll all know when we know."

That's a sound srtaegy Linda. To deal with the thick media fog, I like many have come to rely on certain proven & reliable sources within the Journalism world such as Anne Applebaum at The Atlantic who has worldwide audience and is an expert historian & reporter on Ukraine. Joyce Vance has soared to the top of the federal Prosecutor experts here in the US. just completing the 1 year anniversary of Civil Discourse.

Young Hugo Lowell at The Guardian has rapidly become a top US legal & political reporter. Although Hugo, is based in DC his latest Pulitzer quality work was done from a city in Florida. More Florida news to come from Mr. Lowell no doubt. Venue in So Florida, DC or likely BOTH.

Another super source is AMY HOWE at Scotusblog who reports Justice Jackson's FIRST opinion this am, Healh & Hospital Corp v. Talevski, holding nursing home resident can sue to vindicate their resident & patient rights under Federal statute. 7-2 with Thomas and Alioto in dissent.

I can’t wait to listen to you two. Both of you, Steve & Joyce, were the first 2 Substacks I signed up for. I’ve been following both of you for years & must agree, you guys have taught me so much. I’m a recovering Republican so I have followed Steve a bit longer, but I am so thankful for the insight & knowledge both have shared. I can honestly say I would have come out of 45s term a completely different person if I had not hooked up with both of you. You saved my sanity & my family thanks you both. Now, let the audio begin...

Attended tonight’s zoom. Took me back to the Covid days of zoom everything.

Outstanding conversation from both of you.

We are glad you are in this with us.

I watched Joyce and Steve. They were wonderful! Clear and inspiring, as opposed to Trump’s former lawyer on Lawrence O’Donnell tonight--the definition of obfuscation. Didn’t know what he was talking about..

Don't know if the guy did or didn't know what he was talking about. But he sure knows how to muddy up the water, and did so quite deliberately -- and continuously.

I agree that Trump could get back in. Cornell West throwing his hat into the ring in a third party is going to pose a big enough siphoning of votes off of the Democrats. My shy daughter worked for Biden in order to be able to finish high school here. I was ready to move country because I was not going to have another 4 years of Trump as my leader. It was so exhausting. When Biden won, I told her that she had bought herself 4 years. This is why we are prepared for Trump or another MAGAt to be in power again. I am profoundly disturbed that we have such a shaky democracy. With a MAGAt in power our entire planet is in trouble. We are currently at the mercy of criminals who have grabbed the House. I hope for the best, and will fight for that, but I am following the lead of the father in When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit by Judith Kerr if he or someone like him comes back into power.

Expand full comment

You're kidding! Cornell WEST is doing that?!! WHY?? Doesn't he get it, that he'll be throwing the election to the fascists??

Expand full comment

Apparently his ego is bigger than any concern for the USA and the planet. He also is not understanding US Politics well enough.

https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/cornel-west-2024-presidential-campaign/

I have had no alarm at the myriad of Republican candidates, but a third party can syphon off votes easily, and it will not be from the Republican party, but I am sure that is who is going to fund Cornell West. Apparently he thinks that just having a good message, that a small portion of the population will agree with is more honorable, than saving people from the misery that dying in a global fire will ensure. His running ensures that the Global South will be even hotter faster, and there will be no return. Those next 4 years will either start to turn things down, or the opposite. Cornell West gets to run because we have a democracy, but we cannot afford to have him run.

Expand full comment

Oh, horrors! How can he be such a FOOL?!!! And yes, it would be the repugnicants who would fund him. Can he not see THAT?!

Expand full comment

Ego, ego, EGO! That is what drives that. Even if I agreed with all that he stands for, which I might, I would not vote for him because I don't think he would be an effective leader. The left and the right knows nothing about compromise. Thus we find our House captive to craziness, and things cannot move along, or they will spend a lot of time creating horrid bills that will go no where. That is not governing.

Thanks very much, both of you! Very good to hear your thoughts today. I don't know that the answer for America is to have a new hero/ine arise. Hero-celebrity worship has not served us well in the last 50 years. I don't know what would be a better replacement but something about multiple hero/ines throughout our communities. I'm thinking something along the lines of The Resistance in WWII --- people didn't rise to the occasion because of a hero/ine, they did it because they saw the danger, they inspired each other and met the need.

I watched the you tube discussion and was a really informative discussion. Honestly I am not sure why there was resistance to a Biden presidency given the outcomes of having to deal with an extremist GOP and he has called them out, getting actual legislation passed, bringing back the dignity to the executive branch, restoring our relationship such as NATO and dealing with Ukraine and taking charge of getting the Covid crisis and in all of this focusing on restoring the middle class. I would love to have a charismatic figure like John Kennedy who has not been matched as a visionary of what our country could be. But he was in a time when there was no 24/7 coverage, Fix news and the whole hideous ecosystem of extremists in the civilian population. Yet who else but Biden could have beaten Trump and who in the current Democratic Party either has the experience or ability to address the GOP than Biden. I am worried to but for the most part the Democrats have been more United with our notable senatorial rogues of Joe and Kristin. I think Biden has handled them as well as anybody could. However I have the deepest respect for your knowledge and views.

Thank you.

June 14th is still my day for trump to be indicted by Jack Smith. Flag Day & trump's birthday.

His birthday?! Now wouldn't THAT be fun to watch! What a celebration! -- (for us.)

and Flag Day. I never knew that to be something we celebrated, until I was going through a promotion board in the Army in 1974, when I was asked by an E8 Woman if I knew what we celebrated on June 14th? I said, "Donald Trump's birthday." ((no I didn't say that)). I said, no, Sergeant Major, I don't know. I've never forgotten it since. But, you know how trump always hugged the flag when he was onstage, as if he cared about it. So, yes, it would be doubly fun!

I always felt sorry for that flag. It looked like a sexual assault to me. (Not joking -- well, mostly not.)
