Thanks, our Chicken TV day are behind us, but it is fun to see someone else enjoying their antics. Being pretty much confined to my chair, I will be rummaging around in my mind to find a poem or two this weekend. Today, even before I read your newsletter, I was thinking about what it's like to think about writing, and how much it is like a herd of buffalo. This was this morning poem I'll be editing over the weekend:
Love the poem, particularly how you developed the bison image and then linked it to images (thoughts) "stampeding" and "trampling". Thanks for posting it.
We loved the President's speech also - and he said it as only he could - a man for the times, plain and clear.
Bella pictures always a plus!
We in Oregon are having a warm and beautiful end of summer - and school has started so it is sweet to see parents walking with the kids to school. We are headed to Whidbey Island for the Labor Day weekend, and will be watching birds at Deer Lagoon and on the Useless Bay beach. Shorebirds are migrating through now.
Hi Joyce! Really enjoying your posts these days. I will (unsurprisingly) be knitting, on a dock, on a lake, trying to clear my mind. Hoping you have a peaceful weekend.
Such sweet pics! Biden’s speech was one for the ages! I’m off to Kentucky Sunday night to Monday for my oldest niece’s 13th birthday party. Looking forward to celebrating her and visiting family, and hopefully getting in some much needed rest and reflection. Have a great and restful weekend!
Joyce...thanks so much for the late night uplifting words and adorable pics of your pets. I will be mowing grass and trying to clean up the yard this weekend and next week. After that, I will be driving to Virginia Beach to visit family and friends. The ocean is a soul soother and healer of body and mind.
I decided I couldn't pick names or I would keep them all, so going to send a few more to new homes this weekend and then I'll go back through the list (I compiled all of them, really great suggestions) and name the ones who will be with us permanently.
I love the idea of you having coffee with the ladies. I makes you so real. I will spend time with family and friends on Saturday and enjoy the beginning of cooler weather here in North East Florida. It has the best weather anywhere. I am so happy to be a part of Democratic movement.
I am so glad you wrote as you did about the President’s speech. I loved it and reject the idea that it was “a campaign speech” or “partisan,” as it has been characterized by some journalists. I think it’s more akin to Lincoln calling out the leaders of the Confederacy as a threat to the nation.
Debi, in conjunction with Joyce's wonderful dictionary input below, the true context of my "Roll Tide" was related to The University of Alabama's football game this Saturday (now today) against Utah State at home in University, AL (adjacent to Tuscaloosa, AL). Known as the Alabama Crimson Tide (another story in itself), my hope is that the "Tide" (like an unstoppable ocean "tide") will roll over their opponent to victory. 🏈🐘🌊RTR (Roll Tide Roll) 😊
Hope your weekend is wonderful. We have an exciting beach weekend planned. We have four adjacent apartments on the beach. My daughter and grandkids in one next to us and two of her friends from high school and their kids in the others. I am always honored when we are included in my daughter's plans with her high school friends who we have also known for so many years. I count my blessings every day💕
Joyce, I know you're not a native Alabamian, but as a born and raised Alabamian (although I've lived in Georgia for 50 years), I feel a kinship to you and am so proud that you have chosen to live in that sometimes benighted state. I still have dear family there and am always glad to see shoots of reason in the state. Thank you for all you do.
Hi Joyce! Just wanted to drop a quick note and say how much I enjoy Civil Discourse and all of your insights (and of course chicken updates). Thanks for all you do!
Your words, Joyce, are some of the best that come across my feed. Thank you......

Today, even before I read your newsletter, I was thinking about what it's like to think about writing, and how much it is like a herd of buffalo. On Writing
Thoughts gather like bison on the Great Plains
Bumping and jostling for position
Each thought imagines itself 1000-2000 pounds
Shaggy furred, with a mane and beard. Ideas have
long, end tufted tails, with big heads,
Black horns and lumps on their shoulders.
These thoughts prefer resting, chewing cud
Or wallowing in dirt. They’re grazer who
Munches a spear here and there randomly
In an ocean of abundant sedge and words.
So which path in the prairie grass do I follow?
How do I stop images from stampeding
Trampling the sly foxes and horned larks
Who shyly and sweetly want to sing to you?
This is lovely. Thank you so much for sharing. Can't wait to see the final version, although this hardly needs editing!
…..your own sweet Soul&Spirit…..
The Silver-linings
Like mist surrounding buffaloe-thoughts
In and out we must weave
From scarred-to-the-face
To serene-almighty-knowing…
The balance strikes a life plentyfull
And Grace caresses like a gentle breeze
Our mental capacities🤗🧡🌈🍀✨✨✨
Isabelle, A warm thank you. Your poem is like a Dear One's hug... what we all need to get through these troubling times.
We inspire one another🤗🧡🌈
As the Buddhist would reply:
I am an other yourself….(we are all One) 🕉

Love the pictures. Have you given those new chicks names yet from our suggestions?

Have a great weekend yourself. Best wishes to you and your human, furry, and fluffy family.
Grandsons and their mom and dad at a cabin by a stream by a lake will brighten my days.

Saying goodbye to my vegetable garden. Time to clean it all up. Might plant some daffodils this weekend too

Yes, I took it exactly the same way.
Have a safe and fun Labor Day everyone! Roll Tide!
Roll Tide
Well Joyce, I do wish the Tide well. Being an alumnus of that other university across the state, I must also offer 🟠🔵.
Relax and enjoy your weekend and holiday.
tom j...bluff park
It's lovely to have such a strong rivalry & still be able to wish each other well!
I am a little ignorant of Alabamaisms. A friend also speaks of “roll tide” what is the meaning?
Here's a little info: https://www.dictionary.com/e/pop-culture/roll-tide/

It was amazing thank you. Lots of drinking and catching up was done💕
