I heard a great song on the radio oldie channel—Peter Paul and Mary IF I HAD A HAMMER. the hammer of justice, the bell of freedom…🙏🏼❤️ and chickens, dog and cat all getting along along, with Joyce’s clear and calm columns to get me through 2025. The question remains in my mind— how does a cheating liar or a lying cheater win twice in America? Will he follow Nixon’s path to destruction?
Happy New Year to all us Civil Discoursers and 🐓🐓🐓. We will have a challenging year ahead of us but have a great captain to guide this ship. Thank you Joyce for what you do. We are all grateful.
Civil Discourse has helped me stay the course this year, continuing to have faith that energy put into my local community, while we all keep eyes on state and federal matters, is the way forward. With deep appreciation.
Happy New Year 🥂Joyce and Substack family. Thank you Joyce and everyone here who make this Substack community so vital. We do believe in keeping our discourse civil and so ideas are heard and better understood in such an atmosphere. I’m going to try to remember President Carter’s light and example of kindness in the future 🤟🏻.
Here’s hoping 2025 is better than 2024, but let’s just say I’m skeptical…. Wishing all the best for you, Joyce, and the entire Civil Discourse community!
Dear Joyce— I’m really enjoying your newsletter, and was pleased to hear that you’re a member of the “tribe” AND own chickens! My late husband and I bought a property in Napa Carneros that came with chickens, so I had learn all about caring for them. I loved being a chicken farmer after retiring from a corporate HR career. I chose to sell my property after losing my Dave. Thanks to you and Heather Cox Richardson for keeping us “civil” and armed with facts.🐥🐣🐤
Not sure why my stupid tablet doesn't like the word chickens, but I corrected it 3 times and it still messed it up the same way. Sigh! It's been like that all month. Glad it's over.
Joyce, thank you for your wisdom, focus on truth, and ability to find hope and optimism. And thank you for your chickens, which are always such a delight!!!
Joyce, thank you so much for your thorough and understandable explanations for what we're seeing. I have to say a highlight of my 2024 was watching Kamala and Tim run a joyful campaign, realizing it was possible. I'm very interested in your Index. The word Resist keeps coming to my mind, but I have no idea what that looks like in my life.
Thank you for your great work; see you in 2025(😬)
Feel the same way about you! What would I do without your newsletter?
❤️❤️❤️❤️nothing makes me happier!
A safe and healthy new year to all of you. You guys have kinda been a little refuge for me even when I’ve been a bad boy.
March on Washington January 18 10 — 3 PM.
I’ll be there!!

RIDE CAPTAIN RIDE by Blues Image(?) will be playing in my head for all of the foreseeable future.
Yup, Blues Image:
🎶 Ride, captain ride on your mystery ship 🎶
🎶 Be amazed at the friends here on your trip 🎶
And, remember: "We're all in this Together" in 2025 & beyond.
Yes, Blue’s Image. Great song, San Francisco Bay and all….
Thank you Mike!
Thank you for keeping us informed - and for pics of your family of chickens!

Me too. What a fine example he set for us.
Keep The Aspidistra Flying, dear lady!
:) Named my son Jimmy, in 2003. Loved and respected that man so much.
Impossible to count the lives he improved, unless you just figure it was around 8 billion. :)
Wonderful caring man. May million follow his gentle footsteps.
We love you, Joyce. And your chickens. We’ll be hanging on your every word in 2025.
Happy New Year, Joyce. Thank you for all you do.
2024: As the late queen would have said, Annus horribilus; I say, Oy …
I wish all the different groups of people in our country could get along as well as the cat, dog, and chicken in. your video!
Happy new year, Joyce. Thanks for being in our corner. We have already gone 10 rounds with this knucklehead. He's no match for you!
