First, Happy Birthday Joyce! I hope you were able to enjoy your day, even though you may still be in isolation; and that you are feeling better. I keep hearing of couples & families coming down with this new strain of COVID; and now President Biden has to isolate and recover. Fortunately, these seem to be mild cases. We can only hope that this will further boost immunity.
Secondly, back to breaking news on Steve Bannon being found guilty of not responding to a congressional subpoena. No surprise, but why will sentencing take another 2+ months? The wheels of justice seem to move at a snail's pace on anything to do with Donald Trump. All of the DOJ is moving at a snail's pace on bringing those to justice who caused and were complicit in the events leading up to and occurring on January 6th. Could even this be a part of the right wing desire to continually and completely disrupt democracy.
Thirdly, I know it should not surprise me, but these is even more evidence that the republicans have lost the ability or desire to reason individually with the House bill on access to contraceptives. One hundred ninety-four, 194! republicans voted against this bill, and only 8 supported it. There is an excellent chance that each man's life who voted nay has personally been favorably impacted by contraceptive use in their wives, girlfriends, mistresses, and their daughters. Fortunately, it passed the House and I can only pray that it will also pass the Senate.
Lastly, after watching the hearing on Jan 6th last night, I felt like the whole process is like wading through a mud swamp. The efforts of White House staff, including the sitting cabinet, lacked the patriotic dignity and fervor I expect as an American citizen. I guess they were all used to tip-toeing around Trump and it was no different on the 6th. I just listened to Malcom Nance on Amanpour and when asked about the hearings; his said at least they provide an accurate and commendable record of events leading up to and occurring on January 6th. But the DOJ, in particular Garland, lacks urgency demanded of acts to attempt an overthrow of the government.
So this is why I am unloading here ..... but I am so concerned about what is ahead for our country, I can feel my BP go up, especially on women's health rights and failure on our government to bring traitors to justice.
Watching the hearing …. specifically Cipolone, et. al. ….what happened in WH is a disgrace to the nation in light of what was happening at the capitol. Can’t get the word “milk toast” ouf of my head; as WH staff testify.
Add I was listening to your most recent podcasts with Preet and the Sisters, it occured to me there had been no mention of the death of Ashley Babbit in the J6 timeline. Even when one of "his people" was killed, he chose to do nothing.
Joyce: In the case Dems loose the House and Senate even if by small margins, could they hamstring DOJ’s ability to proceed with an indictment and all the court challenges anticipated in bringing Trump to justice?
I suggest that you discuss HIPPA and how, with the crime exception, it will not protect medical histories related to abortion in states where it is a crime. Also discuss provider applications like Mychart and equivalents that will contain all of your medical information with the HIPPA crime exception.
I was only able to watch the first half hour, but plan to watch the rest later. Did catch the "Hawley chicken run" though (no offense to actual, brave chickens). Your perspective, as always, is right on.
Long ago a friend who had suffered much told me it wasnt a world of joy and sorrow but a world of pain and beauty. Your silkie is beautiful and I've looked up pictures of her (his) tribe for comfort in these suffering days. Can silkies fly or just waft along on breezes? Lovely beings!
Thanks, Joyce. Watched the hearing last night via IPad and wifi from phone, hoping I would have enough battery to last the night (Birmingham AL no electrical power due to storms, ugh!!!). Last night the memories from Jan 6 came flooding back - that day I was giving COVID vaccinations and we watched the coup unfold from txt messages we received from friends. I still vividly remember the terror I felt on that day. Thank you for your comments, blog and your comments on media (MSNBC) - you are always so calm and factual.
Thank you, Joyce, for your insightful comments this AM on Morning Joe, even with COVID and on your birthday (fellow July baby). I am heartened that you see the legal arguments coming together for DOJ and that the 187 minutes surely showed Trump's intent. We all share a need for accountability and, as you stated, our nation requires it. I suspect we know what you will wish for when you blow the birthday candles out! But, have some fun, too!
Thank you, Joyce!
You have given us the script, the players, and what's at stake!! Will be watching you tonight on MSNBC!
each hearing leaves me in further shock. we were so close to disaster. look forward to your take
Always great info. Thanks!
