The child with the sign about leaving her body on the steps of Congress...powerful

Expand full comment

They really should dump the bodies in the super secret tunnel the Supreme Court uses to get in and out. Make those fuckers step over the bodies of dead children before the next gun case comes up.

It certainly is, and it breaks my heart that we have come to this.

And very sad.

I cannot get over how we have let our children and grandchildren down. The shame is unbearable.

It should be on billboards nationwide.

It’s certainly no worse than anti-abortion activists have done and still do to try and make their sickening points.

That was going to be my first comment.

Her sign more accurately should have read, “what’s left of my body”. By now we’ve learned that shootings like these don’t leave much of a body behind to identify.

Sadly you are right.

And pro-life...

And when when will their pro-life constituents realize they are shills for the pols and oligarchs? When will they understand their error about women's subordinate place? Or that conception is not equal to a child? When will they place more value on children in school than a fetus in a womb?

We definitely needed a break, thanks! I'm with Scotch on being impatient, but having your posts here and seeing you explain things so well on MSNBC helps keep me sane. Thank you for all you do.

first off, I'm with Scotch on the indictment issue. Eric Holder is absolutely right. I am saddened by the sign the young girl is holding, but maybe if enough mothers/fathers took their kids to the steps of Congress this or next weekend and posed them as having been shot just this year, it might send the message needed. May I be so bold as to suggest that there be a ban placed on Ammunition for all weapons? Just stop the sale of ammo; that wouldn't stop it, but it might slow it down a tad. Lot of people know how to make their own ammo, have reloading equipment, etc. I'd bet that crybaby Rittenhouse has one by now. Instead of staying in class next week, there should be a designated day across the country where all the kids go outside and lay down or sit and hold their signs that they do NOT want to be shot; signs pleading with their parents/grandparents, etc. to FORCE their Congressmen & women to make changes to gun laws NOW! And until that happens, they should designate a different day the following week to stage the same event until Congress gets the freakin' picture. The NRA should be banned from supporting any candidates for office; didn't they declare bankruptcy? Didn't they funnel money to trump from the Russians? They should be shut down. Then there would be NO reason to stop gun control. It works in other countries like the UK; just ask Peter Frampton. Thanks, I am through ranting. Carry on, Joyce.

A bunch of years ago Chris Rock said make bullets $5k a piece. I still think it's rather practical. As for weekly school walkouts, go for it, kiddos! 🤗

Expand full comment

And best of all, the 2nd Amendment says absolutely nothing about bullets and ammunition, so it takes that argument away from the gun fanatics. Even though the NRA, the gun manufacturers, gun fanatics, and others have twisted the original intent of the 2nd Amendment beyond all recognition, still, it would be great to take even their twisted tortured arguments away from them.

Excellent rant!

Next thing you know, the chickens will want an outdoor movie to go with the popcorn.

They’ll probably want to watch “Babe” and then “Babe: In the City”! More popcorn, please! 😊

Thank you Joyce for keeping us sane with your thoughtful insight. Love the fact that you named a chicken after RBG. I am sure that she is rolling over in her grave at the inaction of the republicans continuing to stall any meaningful assault gun ban! This is not the America I grew up in......

I have 2 grandchildren and their parents are both teachers. And I fear for them. So sad to see my granddaughters have to go through drills and learn how to defend themselves. Our “adult” leaders are so very stubborn about gun reform. And the excuses they make up, omg. I have had more intelligent conversations about life and the world we live in with my grandchildren. Hoping for change. Thanks for the beautiful chicken photos.

I love your chickens Joyce. Just looking at them soothes my aching heart. This killing has to stop. The Massie’s and the Ogle’s sick Christmas cards that no doubt paid them generously by the gun manufacturers, continue to attempt to normalize this sick culture. They and the rest of their ilk in congress have to be removed or at least voted back into the minority. How can we let this keep happening? 😿

It’s been a long haul. One of the only positive aspects of the Trump era was the emergence of you and your MSNBC crew into a wide audience longing for sanity and expert commentary on complex legal matters. You’ve made so much more of your legal and prosecutorial background and expanded into other areas. I want to hear your take on most anything now. It’s like listening to a friend.

The chicken coop is nicer and bigger than my first three apartments. We do need a rest. News fatigue. Trump fatigue. The crazies fatigue. Did I say Trump fatigue and didn’t he admit that Presidential Records were his to take. Don’t normal people call that a confession? Enjoy the coop!

Hello Joyce: Loved your photos of your chicks. “Sweet Home Alabama.” What a fun post so much appreciated on a Tuesday and not knowing what the rest of the week could bring. I imagine our future generations will surely become more proactive within the political arena and fight the good fight as legislators of the people. And gun law reform must be addressed immediately. Thanks for your insights into our changing world this evening. The last photo of that little girl broke my heart but I will never ever forget it 🇺🇸

Thank you for all you do. My heart is so broken over Nashville. My father grew up in Nashville and I still have cousins there.

I was an emergency room admitting clerk in one of the first school shootings in May, 1998; in Springfield, Oregon. It has definitely caused some PTSD each year. Some years I do better than others but every now and then it really hits me hard....like yesterday💔

The only thing that will help is voting the clowns out of office who refuse to acknowledge we have a very big problem as a nation with guns and gun control or lack thereof.

Thank you for sharing your pictures of your beautiful chickens your "me coop" that you share with them!!

Thank you for sharing your expertise both here and on MSNBC. You give us hope. I still have faith in our democracy and that justice will prevail. I truly mean that. But I would be less than honest in saying that I will be extremely happy when indictments start rolling out.

There needs to be a way to get Gun matters ON BALLOTS! So voters can vote CONFIDENTIALLY.

Polls don't solve anything.

Liked the way you worked in some "Lighter Side". Lucky chickens! 👏

That heartbreaking photo of the young girl holding the sign in some ways reminds me of the young Vietnamese girl running down the road, naked after being napalmed. They are both permanently etched into my memory.

I hate the fact my 10 year old and 13 year old nephews know all about how to avoid a shooter and survive someone intent on killing them because today is one of those days with "day" in it. I hate they go to their religion classes after school and armed me are guarding the doors of the building. I'd love to take the guns from the cold dead hands of the gun nuts. After making them cold and dead.

I also hate that they have to know those things, not just that they do.

Joyce has proven with this so-called 'break' how hard it is to take one. She and we can say it over and over, but we cannot take a break. Nothing can serve to distract from Nashville, and as Joyce demonstrated, nothing can distract us from the promise of indictments against Trump or the lack thereof. Some of us are searching for ways to stop the banning of books, while we cannot stop thinking about the state of the states of Florida, Texas, Mississippi and Israel. Withal, this break with Joyce was fully informative. and full of feeling. From Ruth Bader Chicken to ‘IF I DIE IN A SCHOOL SHOOTING LEAVE MY BODY ON THe STEPS OF CONGRESS’,

‘We’re in this together.’
