I assure you I haven’t fallen into the abyss. That said, I worry about Jim Jordan as Speaker. We’ve learned that our guard rails are damaged. I was a poli sci major and have been watching intently since Watergate.

I think the Democrats are on the right path with letting the Republicans deal with their own ‘show.’ Will have Jordan for about three or four months.

Perfectly stated! Thank you!

Hi Maggie, Jordan may be elected. But this crew of Republicans is going to circle the wagons and shoot in. I don’t think 40 years of past behavior, including some pretty decent Republican Congress members, can match these fools. I give Jordan three or four months at the most

The speaker has to produce a budget and bring it to the floor. That can't be indefinitely postponed. It'll hit the Senate and die an ugly death there. There's too much time between now and the election in Nov.24 for a radical right speaker to simply do nothing. They can try to govern, or drag their feet into the election, looking worse and worse by the week. They really don't have a card to play, other than a coalition government with the Dems, or final destruction of their brand.

I visited my son in Connecticut this weekend: he lives in a small town east of Hartford. At the fall festival on the town common I saw the local Republican group's display and was appalled that they had the chutzpah to show their faces in public. In my town in Massachusetts, the local Republican town committee has not filed papers for four years. I do have to pass one house where the "Vets for Trump" sign raises my blood pressure every time I see it. Every village has to have its idiot, but my son's town has a whole group of them. It was disconcerting, to say the least.

Good morning, James. It is the disorder, the chaos, which

is Trump and his brand. We need to defeat it because it

is destructive and a form of death. Our system needs strengthening, but we must not give up. Thank you for reporting. I think it is one of the important ways to help each other by communicating. Salud!

You are fortunate that you are surprised by this "whole group of them." In my state of Maryland, the district where I live has innumerable "trucks" drive around with Fuck Biden bumper stickers. As one drives through the several neighborhoods and regions of my region of the state, one will find flags flying that are representative of the White Christian Nationalists, or state Fuck Biden, or 1776, or QAnon, or Betsy Ross Flags, or Confederate , or Moms for Liberty, and or America First to name just a few. I wish i was exaggerating, however, I am not.

On a daily basis I feel the profound threat to our democracy so when tffg is given press time and the freedom to threaten our judicial system, engage and lead a coup and allowed to run for president and delay trials, etc., etc, etc, and threaten court employees, election staff, and soil the potential jury pool I am afraid. Yes, I am very, very, very afraid and ....

'... or final destruction of their brand.' Or final destruction of our brand?

At least on the international stage, Biden is demonstrating an America that is not reflective of the anarchistic GOP congress.

Hi Just Sayin,

Their brand is totally destroyed. They may have to figure out how to work with the Dems. Things are so bad that I think we are going to be at November 17, 2023 with Jordan in place, no budget, a week long or longer shut down… Jordan out. I know this sounds far-fetched, but if George Santos is out, Republicans have 220 as the majority and the radical group is 8, vowing not to budge. Other Republicans are not solidly behind anyone per se. So wouldn’t the Democrats, having all 100% of their votes for Hakeem Jeffries, which I understand, is very solid, be able to vote Hakeem in? Am I too optimistic? What are your thoughts on this?

I beg to differ. I don’t think their brand is, or will be totally destroyed. Hate is too rampant right now. Sadly, we can’t even get rid of our own Menendez (which I find appalling) never mind Santos. I don’t see ANY republican willing to vote for Jeffries - that I believe is a pipe dream. Maybe, just maybe- the house find a less radical republican that the dems would vote for.
