The only way that fat old traitor will be silenced is when they plant him six feet under.

Which can't happen soon enough. The fatal Hamberder, beaned by a stray golf ball, smacked hard with a nine iron, or "died of old age in prison." I don't care how. I just want this worthless piece of excrement to Make America Great Again with his permanent departure.

I've been wishing for his demise since 2015. Too bad it didn't happen then. He could've gotten a pant leg caught in the golden escalator and been thrown head first to the bottom, and saved all of us a lot of pain, suffering and death. And I don't want any moralists telling me what I said just now is unacceptable - holy shit, what Trump did in four years will be influencing sicko politics for decades, and let's not forget how he mishandled covid and had 5,000 Taliban terrorists released in Afghanistan. Trump is an execrable asshole.

well i like to think of myself as a person who believes in people trying to work out their differences peacefully. But I have to admit, I have had the same thoughts, so kudos for saying it aloud.

The world would definitely be a better place without certain people in it. I'm an atheist, not afraid of getting in trouble for saying what a lot of people are reticent to express. I'm just afraid that Trump is so evil that he'll stay alive just to spite people, just like Hosni Mubarak did after the failed Egyptian revolution. It's no accident that Trump loves autocrats and strongmen. It's not a matter of people merely having differences. Trump and his friends want to destroy the federal government and replace it with King Donald.

my reply is not to disagree...but the real issue is not just king Donald, but the competitors for the throne waiting in the wings for his demise.Arresting & putting him away is important. But it could open the door to electing others who won't seem as bad to many people---and that could make them worse. I am pretty well convinced Trump will not be running in'24, and pretty well convinced that even if he did, he would not win. What really frightens me is that other contenders might.

One thing that amuses me about a case like this is when you see mainstream media outlets offering phrases along the lines of "we reached out to the special counsel's office for comment but received no reply," or words of that nature. Take this to the bank: The first time we'll see and hear Jack Smith speaking in public will be on the day he steps to the lectern -don't call it a podium, please- and begins to outline the charges in the indictment of Trump. I also expect the complaint accompanying the indictment to be at least novella-length.

The judge may not have issued a gag order, but I'll bet trump's attorneys wish they had an actual gag they could leave on him till after the trial.

Expand full comment

True, the trial judge did not issue a "gag order" but, the Court made sure the defendant, tfg & his Attorneys understood what he could not disclose of the Prosecutor's evidence (discovery) which may be used against him. I suspect there will be a number of additional pre-trial hearings to protect witnesses, jurors & due process, among other matters we cannot even imagine now.

yes. I really hope he blathers his way into contempt of court on that discovery issue.

You really don’t have to hope for such a result inasmuch as he can’t restrain himself from lying about that case and the evidence! He will also try to provoke the judge in order to get a mistrial or to be able to play the “poor me; they are so unfair” game! Unfortunately, considering the enormous number of cases against him, we will be hearing from and about him daily for the next two years! Then he will be locked up in his Florida castle for the rest of his miserable life! I know, I know, from my lips to multiple judges’ and jurors’ ears, hearts and minds!

It is definitely time to "stop playing with your food" or in trump's case the Kentucky Fried Chicken & Ketchup. It would be lovely to have the Jack Smith indictment land on trump about June 14th. I can still remember the Army Sergeant Major asking me if I knew what we celebrated on June 14th during my promotion board, where I sat at attention with a 3-member panel asking me about 12 questions to see if they wanted to promote me. I answered honestly and said, "No, madam Sergeant Major, I do not know." "Flag Day", she replied. I've NEVER forgotten Flag Day, and I'd love trump to experience the same thing just for a different reason. Carry on!

The judge is ensuring that the defendant has more than enough time for the discovery process to take place and for any pre trial motions to be dealt with before the actual trial takes place.

Expand full comment

I mentioned earlier no judge is going to allow error--no judge wants to deal with him again.

Expand full comment

Why couldn't the judge set an earlier date and allow the defense more time with a good reason?

Expand full comment

I think because they would "good reason" it to death, trying to delay the trial so that T can keep campaigning. This ruling gives them ample time to prepare and a firm deadline.

Expand full comment

Because Trump's favorite defense tactic is to cause delays. The judge was a step ahead of Trump when he set the trial date as a date certain.

Expand full comment

I feel like I sound like a broken record - the wheels of justice and their glacial pace just might be its undoing. That March 2024 date for this case, which is far along, if any indication of how long the other more important cases will take to go to trial, indicates strongly that trial dates will post-date a time where DOJ must declare hands off for the 2024 election cycle. Meanwhile it is very probable Trump gets the Republican nomination, adorned with multiple indictments. And then there is a real possibility Trump could win the fuc_ing election. When that happens, all his legal issues go away. And the real downfall of this country commences.

Expand full comment

Respectfully Jay, I believe the real downfall of our country is tragically already in progress.

We can still stop it; however--like climate change--it's going to be close. Very, very close. A relatively few votes can make the difference, so it must be an all-in effort for the next 17 months. Our children's children will still be repairing the damage to our country that has already been done.

Si Se Puede!

Expand full comment

"I believe the real downfall of our country is tragically already in progress." I am with you. However, it is reversible at this point. Barely, as you note. If what I fear comes to pass though, where indictments and even prosecutions end up energizing Trump's support, combined with Democratic apathy, put him back in the White House, then I think it becomes irreversible. We join the ranks of the "illiberal democracies", where elections are rigged permanently in favor of the bad guys, so much as to assure they stay in power for a very long time. In that world, you can rest assured the USA will not lift a finger to address the climate crisis, because there will be none, by decree.

And that is a problem. I don't think for Trump, it will work now. But there's no such rule for Georgia and I imagine that trial might even be over before the end of this year. And if she brings it as a RICO case, which many suspect she might, it will be enough to put him away forever if he's indicted as the head of the syndicate, I imagine. But if Smith brings charges before the "interference date" they will go forward. There's plenty of times that has happened in the past so they won't suspend a case already in motion for that reason.

Georgia is dangling a bill that will impeach Fani Willis later this year. She needs to bring this indictment ASAP. As it is she said it won't be likely until August or September. And right after that, the governor will remove her. It's amazing that him saying on the phone "find me the votes" isn't enough.

Expand full comment

"Georgia is dangling a bill that will impeach Fani Willis later this year." What???? I didn't know this. That is full-on dystopian. Full on fascism.

Expand full comment

well you could be right. However, even though the bill was passed, since then half those the bill was meant to protect in Georgia have been granted immunity, and I don't think either Kemp or Raffensperger would find it in their interest to not want Trump prosecuted. Kemp probably will be unwilling to testify in open court and depending on his testimony before the special grand jury might not have to. Ms. Vance could answer that question. And David Shafer, who led for the bill to be passed seems to have lost favor with the party, there was a strong to remove him from state party leadership. so he announced he will be stepping down.Believe it or not, the bill you mention tends to belie it, but Shafer did attempt to influence the Georgia senate after Giuliani's visit there, but they rejected, and many in Georgia republican party are still angered at Shafer's secret role in the fake electorate scheme. The Georgia Republicans (overall) ran against and won handily in the last Georgia primaries, defeating almost all fake election candidates in the last Georgia primaries, so the magas are not strong with the overall Georgia election. My cousin Marjorie is an outlier, but in Georgia you don't have to live in your congressional, and all of my very staunch republican cousins tell me she would have no chance to win in her home district. They are all rather proud of the fact that Georgia didn't give in to Trump and "switch" the vote. In short, I do believe will try to interfere with Ms. Willis' prosecution, and Shafer must sense the same, because his court pleading a few weeks ago seemed to be a desperate attempt to say "I was just doing what I was told by Trump" defense. Of course I haven't been there in a very long time, but that's the grapevine I've been getting.

actually since he is going to lose almost everything, that's a good idea. Ms. Kaplan might be able to file an attachment to his estate p/bankruptcy, if the money is that important. Unfortunately we are told it is the only remedy against libel or slander. Actually since I have no money, if I said or did as trump has done, I would be prosecuted for violations of criminal code, for threatening rhetoric or something. There is a different justice for rich and poor.

Expand full comment

He'll keep raising lots of money form his base. They'll be bankrupt before he is.

Expand full comment

Despite many skeptics, he will not be able to because he is going to be indicted this summer in Georgia and on Mira Lago, and still possibly on Jan 6. If he slanders or lies to raise money, that's going to be wire fraud, so he would have to confine it to strictly a legal defense. He will have more and more restrictions on what he can say and he'll either be forced to keep his mouth shut or be jailed for contempt. When primary season begins he will mostly be shuttling between trials. Trump is finished and even Republicans will move on. I guess they see his end more clearly than liberals right now and many will be jumping into the ring because they already know he won't be around for the '24 election.

But that won't end the maga threat. With Trump gone, it could be worse, and there might be even more of a threat to the current system of American democracy so there will need to be some changes if it is to continue.

I've been wrong, before, but I'm pretty bloody well certain Trump is finished, and all the maga voices believe it as well.

Is this not what caused castigation by Judge Prior:

"Unlike President Biden, his son Hunter, and the Biden family, President Trump is being treated unfairly. No President of the United States has ever, in the history of our country, been baselessly investigated in such an outrageous and unlawful fashion. "

If Trump's lawyers can't get him to cease inserting his greatness into briefs in such a stupid manner that has no legal basis but appears to be making a growing number of judges. They may be bending over backwards to insure verdicts can't be overturned---but he is making the judiciary so angry---I don't want a real lawyer would do, but I'd tell him to defend himself since he seems be trying to do it anyway. His pique at the judiciary is going to insure they make sure he's convicted by the fairest trials anyone's ever had---such as the Carroll trial. But they will not be lenient enough after going through such hassels to give him, light sentences that rich sometimes do, because the judiciary is probably the weariest of all with his antics. Keep talking, Donny, you won't have the opportunity much longer.
