The furor over the NBC hiring of Ronna McDaniel as a commentator/analyst is of no small consequence. Joyce appears regularly on MSNBC, and I hope she will do what we on the outside cannot do: Let management know, in her typically calm and comforting way, that this is a betrayal of journalistic ethics.
I completely agree. How on earth could NBC hire an election denier and anti-press (at least the honest press) demon? It lowers respect for NBC as a serious news network immeasurably.
Fox News is either out of cash to pay the hiring bonus for yet another washout from the dystopic empire, or running too scared after their three quarter billion dollar verdict for lying about the voting machines.
No. Fox News is an arm of the propaganda-misinformation agenda that was built into Charles Koch & Gang’s plans for implementing “libertarian” fascism. They follow the operation procedures laid down by Lenin. Now, with tRump vs the Koch Gang, there is division, and the Murdoch empire really originates with the Koch Gang.
See: “Democracy in Chains” (MacLean) , “Dark Money” (Mayer) and “Shock Doctrine (Klein).
I am in total agreement. There has been a lot said on this topic. Bottom line is that NBC has built a following of viewers that watch not just their excellent anchors, but the countless number of contributors such as Joyce, Neal, Andrew, Michael, etc, etc, etc. To hire a pure liar and election denier goes way beyond the pale. Rashida Jones need to rethink MSNBC's moniker, "speaking truth to power", because in all honesty, I do not believe Ms. McDaniel can live up to that.
Reading her wiki I fail to see how she could make such a hiring choice.
Wiki. Brown grew up in York, Pennsylvania. While attending Central York High School, she interned at the York Daily Record.[6] Brown later attended Rutgers University and graduated in 1998. She interned at The New York Times for one and a half years.[7][6] She was a recipient of the 2012 Merriman Smith Memorial Award for Excellence in Presidential Coverage under pressure.[8]
In November 2016, she was named editor of Politico after several co-founders left to start a rival, Axios. In her new role, Budoff Brown oversaw investigations and stories that helped the publication "get its groove back" in 2017, according to Washingtonian.[9] She was later named one of "The 50 Most Powerful People In Trump's Washington" by GQ and as one of "The Most Powerful Women in Washington" by Washingtonian.[10][11]
Chuck Todd sure did take NBC to task for hiring McDaniel (at $300,000) who was an election denier. Todd put his job in the line with his comments. I have great respect for him.
He is not much to look at but he is smart, has obvious integrity and speaks the truth.
We all have our opinions and there was no pushback when he needed to do it. He may have been great at one time but the past 5 years he just slacked off.
So, I looked her up on Wikipedia to see what her education was that would likely qualify her as a journalist. Could not find anything. But it seems her title will be "On-Air Analyst," whatever that means.
We should ALL contact NBC and complain about her and threaten to boycott NBC if they don’t remove her. Her presence removes credibility from the program.
I would think they wouldn’t want to risk a lawsuit like Fox News received for fake news.
I wrote MSNBC on an e-mail site I have for surveys. I also put this information on every social media site I have, even those like Threads I never use. I believe eventually NBC will need to cave. I won't watch MSNBC; I am going to miss Rachel Maddow! But I just can't turn it on right now.
I’m an 8th grade US History (including Gov and Civics!) and English teacher on spring break and will be glued to each of these upcoming events that you have outlined. Thank you again for offering clear information on all of these court cases, both here and on #SistersInLaw! I’m also tuning in to Amicus with Dahlia Lithwick! Great recommendation! I might also add that I have been listening to podcasts with Tim Miller on The Bulwark, The Lincoln Project, Rick Wilson, as well as Molly Jong Fast with Fast Politics! These podcasts are all like rabbit holes and I keep finding more and more as I listen to each one! 😂 I have a 90-minute commute each way to the school I teach at in the San Francisco Bay area and this gives me a chance to really get a handle on all the issues from several different perspectives! It also fuels my passion for making sure my students have a clear understanding of how the government actually works, what the constitution actually says, and how it applies to all of our lives!
Hooray for you, Irene, and for your Gov. and Civics class! My granddaughter's high school has a Government and Politics class that all students must take in order to graduate.
Fortunately our US history curriculum here in California had a new framework developed an implemented about seven years ago, and it has clear and concise and accurate government and civics pieces to it. I was fortunate to be able to sit on the curriculum committee that chose National Geographic as our district textbook for eighth graders and it is amazing! I know that not all states are that fortunate.
Joyce, I must say that any one of your fabulous chickens is (1) smarter, (2) more beautiful, (3) more interesting as a personality, and (4) more worthy of respect than the Orange Turd. Not to put too fine a point on it . . .
Having been a federal manager at SSA the agency made it quite clear that they would defend me in official acts only. And it was quite clear that did not count anything I said or did while being on the clock. In other words I did not have the benefit of magical thinking that because I said or did it while being paid that the agency would afford me legal protection. My words and actions had to be in the course of my duties only.
So it rankles me that this privileged, narcissistic jerk has made himself godlike in his hubris and arrogance. I expect he should be held to the same standards all federal officials are held.
Of all people he has a job to do. We must separate the personal from the official and fomenting insurrection or calling dearly won state secrets personal records is not to be tolerated.
Too rarely noted is that Trump has had SIX+ MONTHS to prepare for this. Engoron issued his primary ruling in September, at which point it was obvious that at least half of this amount would be forfeit. There followed 5 months of the number growing larger. Then an additional 30-day grace period.
Joyce, sorting out the people and legal issues in Trump's upcoming trials has to be a full-time job! Thanks for taking it on! Especially because there are so many scummy people you have to write about. I sometimes wish I could sanitize my computer after reading about Bannon, Navarro, Kushner, Trump, Gaetz, Greene, et. al. I hope they're not infectious.
Maybe they're not infectious, but listening to their voices rots your brain; better to avoid the direct feeds...I steer way clear of the Orange One's recorded diatribes, for fear I may start speaking in half sentences, strung together for hours, that don't make sense. He's like malware that way.
Nice to know that things are now running smoothly at the farm. Good for the hubs for pitching in!
Tish James is ready and willing to go after The Don’s property. She and we have been waiting for a long time for justice to be served. Inching closer now and you can tell just how embarrassing this all is. Donald’s tweets are desperate sounding. Fingers 🤞🏼 that the judge denies his attorneys delays.
I can’t wait until early Tuesday when Tish James may start the process on Trump. Steve Bannon is next to go behind bars. Popcorn ready. Hopefully the chips are starting to fall on the Republicans.
It wouldn't surprise me if his smug face announces tomorrow that he has a bond, based on collateral from his Truth Social merger somehow. I hope I am wrong. He can't touch the money for 6 months but some financial entity or individual might like to "own" him.
I can't imagine any bond company would accept the Truth Social merger stock as collateral. Remember, it could be a year or two (maybe more) before all appeals are done. I think he'll lose, and the people of NY will be entitled to receive their $$. By then, it's a good possibility that the stock will be worthless, or close to it. There's no there there, as has been the case with trump's other companies. His MAGA minions have spent $$ many of them could ill-afford buying stock of the public company into which trump's private company has merged. This gave the public company tons of cash and thus a ridiculously high valuation. That will shrink rapidly once the market catches on that the actual value and the prospects of this merged company are just about nil. My not-so-humble opinion as a recovering corporate lawyer of some 31 years.
Un-Truth Social has been losing $. This "merger" is like tying two stones together hoping one e will keep the other afloat. It's just another grifter trick, which will also go down.
Audrey, you know Trump is going to run the Republican Party dry too of all its money. Good luck for down ballot candidates hoping to be financed by the GOP. Trump will use it all or think he's entitled to it. Maybe we will see more defections and the House might be the Dem's before the election!
Except that this time the judge has ordered a monitor, and the sources of his bonding will be revealed. That alone will be a step in the right direction.
Sally, I don't think anyone would look at a Trump business as collateral. He has been bankrupt or close with every one of his businesses - and this one will as well. Truth Social had $3.38 Million revenue Q1-Q3 in 2023. It had a net loss of $49 Million Q1-Q3. $26 Million of that $49 Million occurred in Q3. Truth Social had $1.8 Million cash on hand at the end of Q3 - with $60.5 Million liabilities. The merger is a shell (SPAC) whose shareholders are betting on Trump winning the presidency. The merger is a shell (SPAC) whose shareholders are betting on Trump winning the presidency. Bad bet.
If he does, he has to present all the fact, ll the gritty details of the money transactions, where it came from, who funded it, etc. Thank you for the newly empowered Monitor who the Judge said, “You go, girl!” or words to that effect late last week. Now that should be an interesting conversation…
In reality, I heard on TV that the judge in the case gave Trump 30 days to come up with the cash, which was time given him as a courtesy. It seems Tish James could have filed liens on Trump properties when the court decided Trump’s penalty? Maybe she has and we don’t know it yet.
Lis pendens, “lawsuit pending.” In a modern context, it is a notice filed against real estate that is under the control of the courts because of a pending lawsuit. It is often referred to as a “cloud on title”
Trump was booed at his NYC polling place. Tish James is his nightmare and is being cheered on by those sick and tired of Trump’s privilege and treason.
Thank you for sharing your chickies with us. They brighten our lives. And thank you always for ending your columns with “we’re in this together” no matter how crazy things get, your words always ground me.
Gorgeous chickens, grateful to your hubby for keeping them hydrated, thankful for your insight and hope you've given your thoughts to the brass at NBC for their BS hire of an election interferening co conspirator. Sharing an excellent Randy Rainbow vid for a mental health reprieve before the onslaught. 💙
Even if trump had $500 million, hell would have to freeze over, no never mind, even if hell froze over trump would never spend a dime of his own money on his campaign. He wants the "uneducated" to donate or buy his cologne or his tennis shoes or collector cards, etc. The RNC won't have any money for their many candidates either cuz he'll have it siphoned off by Lara Trump. The GRIFT is the new art of the deal.
He raved all weekend about trump tower and keep your filthy hands off it. That building has loans against it, and the question the nanks should be asking is "when will you pay off the loans." The ruse about having a half billion is just trump telling his "uneducated" followers another lie cuz he's losing ALL credibility. If Letitia James is able to grab some of his properties, things become more REAL. Reality biting trump in the diaper is gonna hurt him on every level.
I hope the FBI and all our intelligence agencies are keeping close tabs in him because he'll want to sell more classified docs soon.
As farcas immunity goes, it's a double edged sword, so SCOTUS should explain why that would be a bad thing and deny it already!
I once employed a program that I encouraged a once manager of our now governor who was running for the senate. I found only one person that I knew who wasn’t very political oriented. There are people like that. I worked on her slowly leading to the election. I had sufficiently motivated her. Even called her on Election Day in case sh needd a ride. She voted. But much before election, I contacted the manager and expressed this concept. If all supporters would be encouraged to do likewise, in theory, the vote doubles. The manager didn’t listen and his candidate lost. He was to self confident.
Most of these folks WANT some attention. Some were purged from the rolls. Field Team 6 has proprietary software that identifies unregistered folks who heavily trend Democratic. Some have dozens of friends on social media and once they get the pitch, they share it and influence their friends to do the same.
How glorious to see your chicken coop occupants enjoying the repaired water bar! Also glorious is seeing Peter Navarro behind bars. My Sunday is complete.
The upcoming Supreme Court action on medication abortions strikes me as having the biggest political implications of all the things ahead this week. We have seen the power of Dobbs to mobilize women and men to vote for women's health in even bright red states. Surely even this court will stop short of instituting a national ban at this moment in time. Then again, the far-right agenda to retake control over women, minorities, and other interests not aligned with their particular brand of Christian Nationalism has proven to be obscenely hurried. I fully expect that contraception will appear on the Court's docket in the next year or two. God help us -- wait, VOTERS help us!
I agree, Bill. The action taken will have the biggest political implications. I no longer have faith in SCOTUS. I think that the Federalist Society justices goals is to weaken our federal agencies’ regulations and overweight responsibilities. Roberts and his GOP justices want to deregulate the EPA, the FDA, the USDA, etc. These are scary times, but we are in this together and must fight!
The Repugs may well have cooked their own goose over Dobbs; if the abortion pill is banned, it'll hone the edge of the knife that's already at their throats, and it'll put the last nail in the coffin of granting SCOTUS deference to write it's own ethics rules, have appointments for life, get 100% of salary as pension for life, etc. The backlash may be far more more painful than simply following time honored principles like respecting precedent, settled law, etc. I think they need to be taken down a few notches and be reminded of the merits of a little humility regarding their status. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that some progressive radical firebombs the office of the Federalist Society someday.

She was just kidding, right?
I don't disagree but let's not forget that it was NBC that hosted Donald Trump in The Apprentice. They have a long history together.
Ratings.
I guess we will see. I've read many reviews saying they won't watch NBC once she starts but is it true?
I will not watch anything they air.
I will not watch NBC until Ronna is gone
Same here.
Way ahead of you.

Maybe she’s had a come-to-Jesus moment after having been pushed out at the RNC?
She had every opportunity and still has, to say exactly that, she has not said anything of the kind.
Fair enough
🙏🌸
Not if she’s steeped in the conditioned mindset of Mormonism. (Not a slur, just an observation.)
Well, Mitt is LDS and recognized Trump as the abomination he is. Why couldn’t she also have seen the light?
Expectations are not the same for LDS women and men. They have a fascinating catechism. I don’t admire it, but then again I don’t have to.
If MSNBC management needs to be told they are hopeless.
We can do it! Here is the email address for NBC programming. Tell management what you think!
nbcshows@nbcuni.com
Just sent a fiery email and used the "B" word: BOYCOTT.
Thank you! Just sent an email!
Done! Thank you for the email. My message was short and sweet. Ronna? Bye bye MSNBC.
I sent an email and also added the following NBC decision-makers:
Carrie.Budoff@nbcuni.com
Rebecca.Blumenstein@nbcuni.com
✅
Carrie Budoff Brown is the NBC manager who hired her.

When she arrived at the crossroads, she failed to resist. She gets to live with that reality.
You’ve got that 100% right.
Subsumed by what? Arrogance, then? See James Carville on what Pennsylvania out side of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh is like.
she made the decision. She and Ronna got along during a debate arrangement.
I am still angry with NBC for removing Chuck Todd from “Meet the Press” because Trump complained. He was far better than Welker.
I couldn't stand him.
He turned my stomach.
No, no he wasn’t. I waited years for him to be pulled. He was awful.
I refuse to watch Welker.
She is getting better. At first she didn’t contradict the false facts but she is now. I think Chuck has a better command.
To David - Mike Todd did just that on Meet the Press this morning.
It’s Chuck Todd and he never pushed back when he had republicans on.
To David - Thanks David. I did watch Rona McDaniel interviewed by the commentator of the show and it was brutal. Not sure how we recover from that.
They need to remove her while they can. Isn’t there a 90 day period?
(NBC is also faulted as they did not notify Welker that McDaniel was a paid “contributor” and not a guest).
I thought he did.
Chuck Todd sure did take NBC to task for hiring McDaniel (at $300,000) who was an election denier. Todd put his job in the line with his comments. I have great respect for him.
He is not much to look at but he is smart, has obvious integrity and speaks the truth.

So, I looked her up on Wikipedia to see what her education was that would likely qualify her as a journalist. Could not find anything. But it seems her title will be "On-Air Analyst," whatever that means.
I actually look forward to seeing her there. I think it will be uncomfortable and short- lived.
If not let's add in Sara hucksterboob
We should ALL contact NBC and complain about her and threaten to boycott NBC if they don’t remove her. Her presence removes credibility from the program.
I would think they wouldn’t want to risk a lawsuit like Fox News received for fake news.
I wrote MSNBC on an e-mail site I have for surveys. I also put this information on every social media site I have, even those like Threads I never use. I believe eventually NBC will need to cave. I won't watch MSNBC; I am going to miss Rachel Maddow! But I just can't turn it on right now.
There's at least one petition circulating that demands she be fired. Don't ever think the American people "cannot do" anything.
Yay for your sweet chickens and their water!
👏🏼🐓👏🏼🐓👏🏼🐓👏🏼

This country needs more teachers like you. Thank you.
I wish there were more young adults going into teaching… I fear for the future of public education.
Thank You for all you do for America!

IMHO Trump is pursuing a con on the court and has exposed himself for sanctions. The appellate court can hold an immediate hearing.
But they won't . . .

Bingo.
I'm still refusing to refer to Trump with any kind of title that uses the word "president".
Me, too.
I just refuse to say his name at all...
He'll always be the Orange Cocksplat to me. God love the Scots.
😆😆 Priceless! Still remember Mike Myers on SNL... always such a hoot: https://youtu.be/9kptp9SmM5Y
Didn’t you know? His name is IQ 45.

Professor, my understanding is that tomorrow, the NY AG is going kick Trump's ASSETS.
Hat tip Jen Psaki.
There’s a meme on facebook where the NY AG is gonna grab him by the assets. 🤣
Maybe that's where Jen got it. : - )

Well, he is "Martyring" himself for us! 😂🤯. Isn't he?
For Trump, the chickens have come home to roost.

There's an info zoom tomorrow, March 26 at noon PDT. https://www.mobilize.us/ft6/

How glorious to see your chicken coop occupants enjoying the repaired water bar! Also glorious is seeing Peter Navarro behind bars. My Sunday is complete.
I'm going to cut to the chase, Joyce. Your pictures have been treasures, and
the chicken's squawk is precisely what I think of America's RULE OF LAW!
FERN, I think I understand your Comment after a good night's sleep. 🎶 Little Rooster crowing ... must be something on his mind 🎶 ?
Wonder whether Republican women take them?
I await with bated breath to hear Scotus decree on mifepristone. I don’t trust any of the questionable Leo bootlickers.
Hopefully Peter Navarro will have company soon!
