Joyce. I appreciate you and your analysis but hope is hard today. 7th US service member killed. Girls in school. Today is a hardnday.

Talia Giordano's avatar

Sending you encouragement Lola. Hope is hard, but determination is stronger than steel. Give yourself a breather, then come back and join me in the fight! For now, take care. ❤️

Linda Weide's avatar

Talia, Like you I am determined. I am determined to get as many people to the No Kings Rally we are organizing here in Germany on March 28. We must show our resistance.

I hear you, Lola! I feel exactly the same way. Listening to Obama speak at the service for Jesse Jackson only reminded me of what we’ve lost. Now that I’m in my 80s, I know what our country has been through. So much happened that’s moved us forward. So much, despite those who have relentlessly fought against leaders like Obama, Hillary, Steinem, MLK, JFK. As a former Peace Corps Volunteer, I believed in the dream of sharing ourselves and our skills to help others. That dream has been shattered by people like trump, Hegseth, Miller, Noem, etc.

My sincere sympathy to the families of loved ones who have recently died as a result of the trump regime.

Thank you for your service as a Peace Corps Volunteer, Janet. And for your inspired and compassionate voice, even and certainly, now.

Does anybody believe it is only seven? What about all of the other lives murdered by [t]rump’s policies? They count too. Pay your taxes to kill more. It is almost April 15.

An 8th person, 46 year old, U.S. Army National Guard, Major Surffly Davius of Queens NY, died on March 6, 2026 at Camp Buehring, KUWAIT having been deployed to Central Command during the Summer of 2025. Whether the death is "officially" IRAN War related is not clear -- the death may possibly be health related".

Over 1000 Iranians have perished.

Lola: Thank you! I totally agree, Hope becomes harder for me with each day under the current regime.

This is the court jester of sycophants, Lindsey Graham, on Fox with Maria Bartiromo.

“You see this hat? Free Cuba,” Graham told a laughing Bartiromo. “The liberation of Cuba is upon us. It’s just a matter of time now.”

“We’re marching through the world. We’re cleaning out the bad guys. We’re going to have relationships with new people that will make us prosperous and safe.”

It is very hard, and becoming more difficult every day, to be hopeful with this type of sentiment being expressed by MAGA. Our country is becoming a killing machine and from what I can see way too many people are fine with that. With regard to sycophant Lindsey’s comment about cleaning out the bad guys, I recently saw this quote from President Carter:

“War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other's children.”

I would like someone, anyone, to ask people like Graham about the possibility that this war of choice may just be creating a new generation of terrorists. Do people really think that INNOCENT young men, women, and children who have had their homes and families destroyed, their lives torn apart, are going to grow up loving the US? How quickly we have forgotten 9/11.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Mary, your question is extremely relevant. We saw what happened after our own civil war. The South never got past the fact that they had lost and that Black Americans now had rights and their abilities, talents, and skills could be at least as good as theirs, often better. Those white boys and men thought it OK to stalk, murder, re-enslave Black citizens and more and our government permitted it, just as it is permitting the bad behavior, the killings, the lack of justice that is occurring with this Trumpian regime, and many of the "worst" are from or have roots in the South, Lindsay Graham being one of them. This really is a scary time because the Trumpians care nothing for any of us, not Americans, not Iranians, not Cubans, not Venezuelans, only themselves and what they can gain from their actions.

Mary Corredor's avatar

Ruth: I agree with every one of your points and especially this one: " This really is a scary time because the Trumpians care nothing for any of us, not Americans, not Iranians, not Cubans, not Venezuelans, only themselves and what they can gain from their actions." I bet the kickbacks will be numerous!

Plus, Iran has now bombed other Middle Eastern countries, causing damage, destruction, and death. Those countries may lay some of the blame on Iran, but I am willing to bet that they will assign a lot of the blame to King Donald J. Trump for choosing to engage in war. What about the cells in the US? Instead of Noem, and Company, being so concerned with numbers of deportations and Noem getting her hair, face, and attire just right to star in her movies-commercials, they should have been quietly, behind the scenes, trying to discover and deport real criminals and potential terrorist cells instead of killing American citizens and disrupting everyday life in MN. Will she and the "administration" be called out for this failure? Don't hold your breath!

MaryPat's avatar

And it gets harder: "What is truly terrible is that 40 minutes later, after they knew they had hit the school, they hit it again, “double tap” as it’s called." [TCinLA]

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Mary, yes, those who decided to bomb the school knew exactly what they were doing. I heard Israel was pushing America to bomb the school because it would be fewer women to produce Iran's future soldiers. If that is actually true, which I believe it is, that is a war crime and there should be accountability, people actually indicted and imprisoned for that. Those soldiers were told to refuse illegal orders, but someone thought they should do the bombing anyway. I do wonder who it was and what their excuse will be.

My Dad was a USAF officer and Vietnam vet who passed away 8 years ago. If Donald Trump had showed up at his funeral wearing a baseball cap, my then 88-year-old Mom, hardcore Republican that she had always been, would have tried to knock it off his head, but because she was pretty bent over would have wacked him somewhat lower than the head and then cackled all the way back to the Army Residence Community.

Ellie still in the mix in 26's avatar

I can imagine the same about my own mother, at my father's (WWII vet) funeral. I miss my Dad, but I'm glad he was long passed before the Cowardly Quisling From Queens got into office.

Joe Tye's avatar

Dad was stationed in Germany in the mid-fifties. One of my earliest memories, probably around age 4-5, was seeing bombed out buildings - ten years after the bombs had stopped being dropped. To inflict that sort of damage on the world because a vicious and demented old man is trying to divert our attention from his history of sexual assaults is beyond criminal - it is evil.

Clym Yeobright's avatar

With all that gold, the cap at $55 *must* be a loss leader, donchathink? Because our wily leader knows how to give a little here to get a little there … oh wait! He has *never* given a little here to get a little there, has he? He is *all* graspy gropey all the time because, I guess, “when you’re a star …”

Ruth Sheets's avatar

CLYM, yes, Trump has never given anything to anyone without expecting something of far greater value in return. Trump now just lives in his head and responds to people's comments and sometimes questions, usually with some kind of ignorant comment. If the person by his ear is one of his hand-picked toddler pool, he may listen and act or rather mouth whatever that person wants him to say. Trump can essentially do nothing, dementia does that to a person. He does play golf, sort of, and walks around sometimes in the white house, gets into helicopters and onto his jet, but that's about it. He had no clue what was going on at that service for the fallen Americans; he also didn't care. He was just happy that he was being filmed, and he could see himself on the evening news/Fox.

What I am going to say is truth. No matter if you think I made it up. Travel on I40 outside Knoxville TN and see for yourself. Across from the truck stop is a Donald Trump store. A half block away is a sex store. How appropriate . Great fit for our trashy President. I really wonder if the same folks own both stores. If I knew how to post the photo I took when I saw it ,I would.

The midterms will be the defining moment for this country. We’re hanging on by a thread. Our only hope is for the American people to save this country. The Republicans and the SCOTUS have done a grave blow to the checks of the executive branch.

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

And our responsibilities are to ensure all who are eligible to vote do.

GaryE's avatar

💯 The most important thing we can do is to put all your effort into ensuring that people in your state, your town or your neighborhood, know how to register to vote. Comply with new voting laws. Which includes mass communication into each communities. That’s where we come in. If you don’t have these needs in your state, community, then support those organizations that do. This is all of our fight. Help the communities in need by supporting them anyway you can. Give them $5 dollars before you give it to the DNC. If you’re not sure who to support. Look up your Democratic Party organization in your area. They can help.

See you in the streets.

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

Thank you for adding.

I am with you,Gary. My fear is I know so many folks who just don't get it. They support his failings no matter what. The good church going folks love him. I give up on them. They should see how unload he is when he throws his own people under the bus on a personal whim.

Let's keep pushing for the good to come. Fight on Gary.

While it's usually um...injudicious...to suggest when the Imperial Court will hand down a decision, the one on Demento's petition asking it to overturn the 2023 $5 million judgment in the sexual abuse and defamation suit brought by E. Jean Carroll has been ripening since a February 20 conference. It could come as early as tomorrow (Mon. 03-09) when the court is next slated to publish an order list with action on pending appeals. The list may also reveal if that prince among men, Steve Bannon, gets his review of an appellate ruling that upheld his contempt conviction for ignoring a subpoena from the House Jan. 6 committee. The Court last year rejected Bannon’s bid to remain free pending his appeal, and he then served a four-month sentence, but that prior refusal to grant extraordinary relief doesn’t automatically mean the court won’t take up the appeal now, especially since the former DOJ asked it to vacate the appellate ruling so that the so-called government can move to dismiss the case completely in the trial court on its usual questionable (politely speaking...) grounds.

Joyce, I admire your resilience and fortitude to keep sanity in our lives. However, I’m an ardent believer in the power of the people because of history saying the people has the power of change. These times are different. They feel different. The American people, across party lines or ideological lines are tired of this administration and more so Trump. A slim minority of this country decided that Trump would be the best candidate to lead this country. Even after what they saw on J6. After the convictions in his felony indictments. The Hollywood tapes and all the other egregious comments about, well, just about everything.

Nobody is stopping him except a few Federal Courts. And that has its time frame while he creates another Constitutional crisis somewhere else. The Republican Party has relinquished ALL its authority to him and the Democrats are powerless to stop him. Yes we’re in the streets, writing letters to our representatives, calling our Representatives and yet. We find ourselves facing insurmountable challenges that just keeps coming without any relief.

Talia Giordano's avatar

The midterms are coming and the Dems are fielding great candidates. Special elections in red states have been blowouts with Dems winning races, spending a fraction of the money that Republicans PACs are spending. I am more than cautiously optimistic.

GaryE's avatar

Thank you, Talia. There are certainly bright spots for us to celebrate. I’m with you; I'm unsure whether the electorate of this country is fully engaged.

ELIZABETH Craze's avatar

Yes,Gary. It seems insurmountable. We will just keep fighting but getting tired from the stress. We must get voters out. I am concerned at all the voting strategies the Republicans are designing to prevent voting from democrats. The worst of it is I live in a deep red state.

Talia Giordano's avatar

I think the Repubs voting strategies are desperation moves that the public now recognizes and will vehemently fight. I’m looking for a shift leftward including disgruntled moderate Repubs, independents and possibly disillusioned MAGAs. And remember the Hispanic voters for Trump in 2024? Thanks to ICE, we have them back!

This is worth making some mileage with, if possible - to show Fox viewers how deceptive the network is. It is really a very dramatic lie (but also just so cheap) to replace a video of today's event with one from months ago because the President was disgracing himself today.

"It’s almost as though the government’s lawyers don’t know there’s a Constitution out there, a rule of law that both assigns power to and constrains the exercise of power by the executive branch of government .."

Indeed, by their actions they have amply demonstrated that they don't care "there's a Constitution out there", any more than the DOGE tech bros cared about the institutions they eviscerated.

On March 6, Ms. Vance wrote that judges around the country are finally deciding that the "presumption of regularity" no longer applies to this regime, or to those arguing its cases in their courts.

There would be "No More Benefit of the Doubt".

It is hard to surrender long established belief systems, based on long precedent and our founding documents.

Hopefully now that line has been crossed, regional and state judges will no longer tolerate those who flout orders from their benches, and begin to dole out consequences.

Clym Yeobright's avatar

I’m thinking that the granting of security clearances is a ministerial, not a political function, and thus subject to process - due process - given that a property interest is implicated. Am I close?

“For the love of God.

As the US uses our tax dollars to literally bomb schools.

As they use our resources to abduct, beat, then send people to mass internment camps based on the color of their skin.

NAME THE CRIMES.

As all that happens, we are in a state of emergency that every governor could name and act to end.

Treason and a fascist coup, these are emergencies and if someone cares more about waiting for the next election than doing the right thing then they're ok with all of this they're just not ok with losing their titles and riches.

Any governor could stop this.

We, the people, must be more frightening to those in power than the fascists”. -Christopher Armitage

And, in addition to the horror of those young lives needlessly lost, this is costing US taxpayers a billion dollars a day -- think what that could mean in terms of health care and food assistance, better schools, environmental protections, etc.. The upside down of priorities - and this war of choice - leave me speechless.
