I had a sad moment today when I opened my adult son's chicken coop door to find a massacre (probably by a weasel.) One dead rooster (he was a good boy) and 2 dead hens. Two other hens managed to escape.
He had asked me to make sure they had water this morning, as my he and my daughter-in-law were with our grandson who had surgery this morning for a collapsed lung. If grandson had been the one to find them he'd have been a wreck.

Weasels are the worst- blood sucking 4 legged vampires-they bite and suck the blood right out of the bodies, in case someone is lacking details. So sorry! Better put traps out, or put the remaining hens inside a weasel proof cage tonight, the little predator will come back for the rest.
I had a little white call duck for 11 years - I believe it was a weasel that killed him one night - that was so hard. I used to bring him in and let him swim in the bathtub in the wintertime - he would sit on the couch (on a towel) to dry off - he and my dog (choc.lab) were buddies! Josie (thought he was a female at first) would "noodle" Cougar! You had to see it to believe it.
It's so hard when that happens. When we had our chickens we had an eagle swoop down and kill the biggest and most beautiful one. Awful to watch - but at least the eagle ate the chicken. Some predators just kill and maim for sport. Best wishes to your grandson - wishing him a swift recovery.

Maybe next time your husband can play “Chicken Whisperer” and have that bag of snarky worms handy. I’ll betcha you can get the girls to “cluck” back atcha. That would be a conversation I would love to eavesdrop on 😁
We used to have a Pet Cube we’d chat with the cats. Unfortunately we could see them but they couldn’t see us. They always got a special toy when we came home or we’d be shunned for days.
I have some that get it and others that don’t. I have a new kitten that watches TV or IPad games and videos with great interest while others are unaffected. I think it’s the motion more than the voice. But kittens grow out of it and become lazy cats.
I never worried if they were confused because they came, played with the laser pointer and I could check that all were up and around. An extra check on the pet sitter.
