Flock update: thanks to several friends who wanted to add to their backyard chicken coops, most of this summer’s chicks have gone on to new homes. And, I convinced myself to part with our rooster, Biff. He needed a place with more room to crow. His best friend Annie went with him—I couldn’t bear to separate them, since he devotes himself to finding her the best worms every morning (find yourself a friend like that).
We’re down to eight chickens, including the two chicks I kept. They’re still not named, which means I need your help.
The Civil Discourse community was nice enough to suggest names when the chicks started hatching this summer, but I realized, after I started naming them, that it was a mistake, unless I wanted to end up with thirty chickens! Once you name them, they’re family members. It was traumatic to send Sarah, Percy and Bill off to their new homes and I almost didn’t manage it at the last minute.
But now that we’re down to the two who will stay, our new additions need of names, so, suggestions please? One is buff, a red head, and the other, what’s called a blue but looks dark gray, with a lovely red ruff around its neck. Please suggest away!
I’m off to Austin, Texas for the Tribune Festival. Jill, Barb, Kim and I will do the first live show of the #SistersInLaw podcast. If you’re nearby, come join us!
We’re in this together,
Joyce
Name one "Aileen Cannon" so you won't be so sad when you give her away.
