As far as Callais, 2.5, is there anyone who didn't see that coming? The disabled community (the largest minority group in the US) has seen the writing on the wall for a while. I fear how it will be applied to those who are double and triple minorities.
Just a reminder: Mifepristone is safer than giving birth in the US or many other countries.
How is trump's approval rating that high? Why hasn't cholesterol done its job yet?
Trump takes atorvastatin (Lipitor), which is a potent cholesterol-lowering medication which has been shown to significantly reduce risk of heart attack and stroke. Thinking that he will die of a cardiovascular event prior to January 2029 is very likely wishful and improbable. As he said in 2016, his supporters would vote for him even if he shot someone on Fifth Avenue. 30+% of American voters have joined his personality cult.
Lor, no one wants to acknowledge the truth of Baby Donnie's dementia, even though everyone around him has known it at least as long as I noted it back in 2019. They couldn't say it was real because they needed to run him in 2024 because they didn't have anyone else ready to continue the oligarchic takeover they have been planning for decades, at least since Reagan.
I read it when his medical report was disclosed several years ago. However, Google states he is now on rosuvastatin (brand name Crestor), which is an even more potent cholesterol-lowering agent. It works the same way as atorvastatin.
If trump succumbs to his age/poor health do people think this anti-democratic, racist, misogynist, corrupt, corporate owned, deplorable period in our history will magically end? Trump has always been a cheater, liar, stupid, mean individual; ask any New Yorker. Dementia negatively affects those who have it, but it is not the main ingredient with this disgusting human being. It may feel good to think about trump’s death but our problems run deeper than this horrible man. Plus do you really want incessant legacy media coverage of his gold-saturated funeral, who bended the knee at his coffin, what they wore, close-ups of Mrs. Bezos’s basketballs, and MAGA honoring their self-described martyr?
I just can't even imagine another minute with that moron as our president, much less 2+ years. We really need to get it together before November if we want to save democracy otherwise we are doomed. I pledge to get involved more than ever. Join me, please.
I have. I give every one of my patients a copy of the Constitution and a page of websites to visit to read the reality of what's going on in the country. I also get them to register to vote if they choose, which I encourage.
I'll do more if I can. We all need to step up and get the criminals out of office, no matter what party they belong to.
Hypocrisy reigns supreme with the Roberts court. You bring out such salient points regarding all the lower court judicial unconstitutionality found with the issues you site in your post. However there are six on the court that have an alternative mission and its their skewed opinions tinged with destruction that gives me little hope. They trample over their own previous decrees, its almost Orwellian. Why?
Don't lose hope. Democracy is an ongoing fight. The racism and populism has been overcome before, and it's our job to make that happen again. All of us have to join the fight. The hardships that are hitting Americans are effecting all of us including those who voted for the criminal in the White House. They will eventually succumb and either change their vote or withhold it.
Debbie, the answer, all of them, even our Clarence Thomas are racists and misogynists par excelence! They have always been and were only picked for the court because of that. The Federalist Society grooms a few token others, but for the most part they are for a white America and will do anything to achieve it so they can whine that they fixed things for their white bros, oligarchs who want to take over this nation so they can steal us into oblivion. They whined that they were "originalists" when what they meant was racists, misogynists, xenophobes, and more, hiding in their black robes. Now Roberts whines again that the court is not respected! Just blather! He is pleased at the progress they have made with him at the helm and plan to do even more. All of these Republican picks have always been problematic, but somehow Repubs manage to anoint some of their worst and claim they are great and worthy. Admittedly neither the Bushes nor Trump have a clue what is quality since neither is, but the Senate went along with all 6 of them, and that was no accident, done with the connivance of Mitch McConnell who will not be remembered with fondness in history along with the Roberts 6 plus Scalia.
I always heard when I was young not to get involved with a partner who was jealous. I would add not to trust anyone without a sense of hypocrisy or irony!
Happy Mother's Day! Where would we be without them?
As for the rest of the situation: I think the schools need to get back to teaching civics a' la' what I was taught at Madison # (I forgot) in Phoenix in the mid-50's. Our electorate put this guy in a second time. Shame on us!
We moved north - my parents hated segregation, tho we would learn northern segregation was all about housing. At least there weren’t separate drinking fountains or bathrooms (if there were two - often in the South it was just for whites only, nothing else). I was too young to know about separate hospitals, or the people who died because of it.
I worried when the voting rights act and amendment were passed, because the VRA could easily be undone - there was one passed in the late 1960s that was ignored. The amendment needed to be more explicit.
It took 4 amendments to get voting freedom and it looks like it will take 5.
Perhaps, Indiana’s election should be invalid? What is it? States or the Executive? This is such blatant hypocrisy and more corruption. We need a We The People lawsuit against this administration for irreparable harm. Who’ll take that on?
And how about taxation without representation? Not only for the newly disenfranchised black voters, but for the blue states, who send in the lion's share of federal taxes and get almost no help in disasters and other support while the red states clean up in all ways; Trump says all the time that Democrats are the enemy, and he delights in sticking it to them in every possible way.
Oh, I didn't even get into that. LA receives 44% of its funding from the fed gov't, and is at the bottom 5%, for sustaining its own. TX is in the bottom 5% in education, however, far bigger, and dumber, so I hope their blue wave hits! (sorry had to be slightly snarky this morning) Memphis was chopped into three pie slices. Indiana went to the polls to GERRYMANDER. VA went to the polls NOT TO GERRYMANDER. I guess my initial thought is that if the technicality and reason, for not certifying in VA, timing to the midterms, then why IN isn't under the same rule...the PURCELL rule? Data is data but this expulsion of "WILL OF THE PEOPLE" is all voters and certainly can happen nationwide, except in blue states. The red states would have nothing if not for the blue states!!! I get ya!!!
Thank you for this excellent compilation of the coming week. It’s a big week with some of the most important issues being decided by the courts. If we lose the ability to receive mifepristone that will leave women with the choice of denying sex or being controlled by the men in control of these laws. It will take away their freedom and autonomy which is abominable!
Perhaps all women denying all men sex until this law (and many other discriminatory laws) are fixed “might” have a bottom line positive effect on our nation. My only fear (and it’s a big one) is the violent male reaction to this.
Patricia, that is why states, groups and sympathetic others need to stock up on Mifepristone ASAP so there will be no break in coverage. There are many ways to mail things that our Baby Donnie can't control, including direct delivery. We women have to continue depending on our own talents, intelligence, and cunning to fight the stupidity of the whiny white toddler-men in charge. We have done it before, and we can do it again, even better. We can be the Lysistrata Resistance or something like that and keep lists of people to beware of and to shun as much as possible, doing nothing to help those folks who have only contempt for us while they depend on us for almost everything. What a bunch of bratty hypocrites men and their misogynistic women are!
An interesting twist on the Tennessee gerrymandering case is that the state's constitution forbids breaking up counties when drawing boundaries. The Republicans nevertheless split Davidson, Nashville's county, into three different districts prior to the 2022 elections, and will have to do the same to Shelby, Memphis' county, in order to achieve their goal of killing the last Democratic district in the state.
Ironically, the Republicans used the Voting Rights Act as an excuse in the Davidson case, but now that the Act has been gutted, can no longer use that justification. It will be interesting to see how the TN State supreme court handles that.
Phil, I lived 8 years of my life in Nashville. It was clear there was racism, but also clear that a lot of positive changes had been made over time and were continuing while I was there. Somehow every time positive changes happen, there have to be a bunch of scared white guys who have nothing better to do in their lives than to cause harm for others while pretending they are sooo christian. It is too bad more people aren't calling them out on their hypocrisy. Maybe they are, but since the media is also being run by rich whiny white boys and their token female stooges, it is hard to get anything positive out to the world. We need to find ways, though to foil this racist attempt to take over in the Jim Crow South again. Yeah, it was such a great success the last time; they needed to start a war to protect a corrupt inhumane system then had to keep a whole lot of Black people to keep it going. They do need to be stopped because those guys can't learn anything positive, only the destruction their parents passed along to them. IF it wouldn't hurt the average citizen of TN and the rest of the confederacy and Indiana, Idaho, and a few other states, I would recommend that we boycott them. I refused to go to my college class reunion last year because I just couldn't put money into a state that treats its citizens as the gov. and his legislative ignorant henchmen have chosen to do. Maybe one day things will improve and I could go back, but not any time soon! Sad!
The law is irrelevant to the Rs these days. DJT and his minions have put in place a lawless system that will have to be changed if there is every again an administration in charge that puts a priority on people and their health and freedoms.
So, it would probably be best to change voting to universal voting, so it doesn't matter where in your state you vote, no division, just statewide voting. One set of ballots for all of us with everyone on the ballot regardless of party and we'd all use that one ballot to cast our vote with. I yield back my time.
But don't there need to be districts in order to have the representatives to Congress? Maybe I'm not understanding your premise here, which is possible because it's not even 6 a.m. and my brain may be foggy. How would those congressional seats be determined?
Bill's idea may have some merit applied to any national office, but I agree with your questioning how the assignment of winners to districts would occur. Perhaps the better idea is for ALL redistricting to be accomplished through non-partisan commissions in every state. Of course, this would require at least the cooperation of Congress (if not a Constitutional amendment), and that won't happen before regime change.
Fair elections in 2026? Whose kidding who? The Founding Fathers must bear ultimate responsibility when they gave federal election rules to reach State so their politicians could abuse and deny voting rights to every citizen in their jurisdiction. Districts in each State should be done by a 100 member National Redistricting Board with two nominees by the governor of each State subject to approval by a 2/3 majority of the both the House and Senate. These 100 would act as guardians to monitor and ;prevent redistricting abuse . Approval of the redistricting map for each state would require at least 67 positive votes. Unil such a majority is received, the Board would have to redraw the districts.
We may have the oldest active constitution, but we now have one of the most corrupt republics. In some countries you can be fined for failing to vote - it is mandatory for all eligible voters. We are a disgrace to all we claim to stand for as a nation. As for trump, he is outstanding as the most corrupt and despicable president we have ever had.
Another to add to the list of Democratic leadership failure: Asked about if he would vote to approve future arms sales to Israel, Senator Cory Booker replies: "We have a long-standing commitment to Israel having a qualitative military edge. I will continue to support that."
trump is desperately scrambling to make his mark in history. The statues, pronouncements, fake poll numbers, banners, etc. all point to his desperation. The only mark he’ll make is a black one on the presidency.
within hours this decision caused blatant removals of black congress people ...it solidified that racial discrimination is very much alive in this country.... the 6 maga supremes knew this.....and if anyone thinks we are ready for a woman president ..think again... there is no time left we need to right the ship first then we can have full throated discussions why the rest of the world can vote in women to lead and we still cannot do it....
First, happy Mother's Day to so many.

2. I lived in the American South during Jim Crow, and I am appalled by its apparent reappearance.

Are we paying for patel’s bourbon calling cards too? When does everyone want to stop paying taxes?
I've wondered who's paying for the Kash bourbon!
According to reports coming from an FBI spokesperson, Patel is personally paying for these branded bottles. Can we believe that?
So he's free to use the FBI logo to sell booze! And the administration is fine with it!! Oh my!
