I can't comprehend the criminal complicity of the Republican Congress for not impeaching this president. They know what he's doing and allow it to happen, especially the ones who disapprove. Their names should live in infamy as American traitors betraying their oath of office and their country.
Republican and Democratic members of Congress should be allies in getting this horrible man out of the White House and into prison. Or to a cell in El Salvador.
If our "only" problem was Donald Trump, we could suffer it through to the next election. But the real problem is the 77 million people who are so ignorant that they think deporting citizens is ok as long as they're the "right" ones.
Yes, and our other real problem are the Project 2025 mafia who dictate and orchestrate everything Trump is doing. He’s too stupid and lazy to do any of it himself.
47's also gleefully using OUR tax money as bait to enforce obedience in advance and with-holding already granted monies as punishment. Make no mistake; he is very much enjoying these acts of dominance and revenge.
One article said that Trump has authorized $6 million to have the currently deported people housed in El Salvador's prison. And now he wants El Salvador to build five more for deported people who will include U.S. citizens who supposedly have committed horrible crimes. If Musk wants to cut waste, he can start here.
Only someone purely evil would "enjoy" sending people to what amounts to a dungeon in a foreign country! if the US is going to send "home grown" criminals to foreign prisons, HE should be at the top of the list! He has been convicted on 34 counts of non-violent crimes and also for sexual abuse & defamation of Ms Carroll.
Both have to go along with the heads of both in congress. Then we might have a fighting chance of ridding ourselves of the corrupt cabinet members and the crazies like rfkj
Not to forget -- the line of succession proceeds from VP to Speaker to Senate president pro tem and then down the entire list of cabinet secretaries, in the order their positions were created: State, Treasury, Defense, Attorney General, etc., down to Homeland Secretary.
The "wounds" go back to the founding of the republic -- and earlier. Slavery and Jim Crow, the Trail of Tears and what followed, were every bit as shameless and audacious as this, but they weren't happening to white people. So we, meaning overwhelmingly white people, either never fought back or gave up too soon. In so many ways we own this. And this is absolutely the wrong time to give up.
My ancestors fought against all the above. I kept it going until I could no longer go into the streets. My pittance of SS goes to those who are trying to save DEMOCRACY. None to Democrats who vote for trump.
As things are going—and I expect they will continue—elections in 18 months will be an enormous blue wave sweeping out repubs in both houses of congress and installing significant, maybe even veto proof, democratic majorities.
The elections are the purview of the states, especially for Congress. There's very little role for the federal government to play in local legislative elections.
Article I, Section 4: The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators
if we are lucky but better yet maybe some of those r's in congress now will stop rubber stamping some of these "laws" I am still baffled by the 4 d's that voted for SAVE ACT when 2 r's voted against it...
What means? What can ordinary people do, when those we elect do this???? The power is in voting and voting has been stolen possibly forever. And the opposition party is Neville Chamberlain.
Excellent point. Moreover, there is the GOP turning, slowly but surely, into a fascist movement, as people like Paul Krugman have been warning us over the years. The Supreme Court is in the hands of rogues and white supremacists, and the courts themselves are starting to betray the rule of law - the judge has ruled out that Mahmoud Khalil is eligible for deportation for his noble and courageous effort to exercise his free speech and defend the right of Palestinians to exist. And yet, majority of Americans either support the genocide in Gaza or is silent about it - this inevitably threatens democracy and the rule of law.
The problem is even deeper. The insane social differences are not sustainable and lead per se the the political and social instability - we speak now of a country where a few own 50% of wealth, and less than 1% owns more than 90% of wealth. The US is falling behind in every category of the equality of life, still lacks basic health insurance which to say an European is a basic human right - this too inevitably threatens democracy.
Other countries have faced or are facing this threat, some with the direct interference of the US in the past, and a fight democracy requires getting informed, but Americans are unfortunately isolated from the world - and thus totally unprepared for the onslaught of democracy. Hungary for example is a text-book example of how fascism takes over, and Ms. Vance ought to be discussing it here.
Many other writers have been discussing Hungary recently. See, for example, Anne Applebaum in the Atlantic. Ms Vance’s focus is on her area of expertise: the law.
I see your point, and maybe I am wrong - but still, I feel that she could draw from Hungary's example, precisely regarding how Orban and his cronies got rid of the rule of law. She clearly has no first hand experience of fighting fascism, for this you desperately need lessons from others. There is this sense of the uniqueness in the US, the separation from the rest of the world - I believe this is part of the problem we are facing today. Also, to me she does not care enough about illegal persecution of people defending Palestinians, and this selectiveness worries me deeply.
Wait til it's their (white) neighbors who did nothing wrong except fly a Pride Flag for their grandson....and the underinformed white voters are shaking in their shoes for fear of who might be next.
Lets also remember JD vance is almost WORSE than the COCKroach - he is what we know as a SLICK talking politician!! It is going to take A LOT to rid the country of this INFESTATION of the intrusion of cockroaches!!
JD Bowman Vance (whatever) is a terrible politician. He's really awful at retail politics. Everywhere he goes, he sticks his foot in his mouth. He's intensely dislikeable. Far from slick.
Let's include Roberts, Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. I reserve judgment on Amy Coney-Barrett since she partially joined Justice Sotomayor's dissent in the April 7 per curiam decision that detainees challenging their deportations must seek relief using habeas corpus, and those actions can only be brought in the district in which they are confined.
Correct, ASB!! Trump is building his GULAG. (We all know how Trump admires Putin.) BUT, it’s not just Trump and Vance and (shocker: Stephen Miller) who are handling the brickwork. It’s the United States Supreme Court, the US House of Representatives, and the US Senate.
What galls me is that nobody (and that includes the minority justices) challegenge individual justices on bias. At every other level judges are in some manner voir dired for bias.
If there is a conflict, judges and justices are supposed to disclose them on the record. 28 U.S. Code § 455 - Disqualification of justice, judge, or magistrate judge
(a)Any justice, judge, or magistrate judge of the United States shall disqualify himself in any proceeding in which his impartiality might reasonably be questioned.
It's clear that they do not believe in the rule of law either. If there is one single republican who does, they are frightened of upsetting the boss, and it's as if there are none, and you are right, they are as traitorous as the ones who don't. I simply do not know the answer. You'd think the courts, including the supreme court, could do something other than just let this happen, but I don't see a mechanism for that that they're willing to entertain.
To #47 the voters are irrelevant because he has a plan to ignore or not allow any future elections. The GOP thus believes they don't need to worry about the midterms either.
We need to make them not think about the midterms, and then bombard them with a loss so great there is nothing they can do. And the courts have authority to appoint the marshals needed to enforce their directives. They need to do just that ,with those law enforcement officers who uphold their oaths to protect this country from all enemies, in this case the domestic enemies. this should be happening already.
When elections are stolen, fiddled with, hacked into, the voters have no power. Republicans have been vote suppressing for years! Making it harder. I doubt we will ever have another free or fair election if we continue to have sham ones.
they get a lot of death threats if they even appear likely to vote against what Trump wants. So sometimes it's the voters they fear (Musk will finance a primary!) but often it's the heavily armed nutbars of the cult.
Recall that Romney was afraid to speak out against Trump before the 2024 election, despite that he was retiring from the Senate, because he feared for his grandchildren... and lots of examples...
Romney, and all the other cowards, will have to live in fear forever. They are failing to make the details of every threat very public which hurts the entire country. It gives the regime more power when they can continue to operate under cover.
Yes! It is hard to even fathom that there is not even one decent person in the majority party that will not step up? The oath demands it..unbelievable they sit by and watch this regime take down our country
I do hear speeches from some Republicans expressing outrage at this regime, but don’t see any accompanying concrete actions. I can’t for the life of me understand why. All they would need to do would be to stand with Democrats and issue articles of impeachment.
And start paying millions of dollars for security for themselves and their families, because when Frump is crossed, his militia buddies (and others) know exactly what to do. This involves death threats and threats to their families, just as happened to Kinzinger and Romney, and during the hearings for Hegseth, to Tom Tillis. The threats have been deemed credible by the FBI--when we had an FBI who followed these things. And surely the threatened are warned to keep silent about it. It's what's running our Congress right now, and it's not being mentioned much in the press, or at all in Congress. Brave Dems could speak out on the floor, and they would likely get the same threats. I think this is a key piece to turning things around, and there must be a way to do it, but i don't know what it would be. I do know that continuing to blame congressmen who rightly fear for their lives is not the way. Who can start talking about this and not let up on it? It's mafia 101.
Noorilla - All true but you must remember that the Republicans have had MANY opportunities to rid themselves (and the country) of Trump. They did NOTHING! Over and over. I'm not sure what has motivated them over the past ten years but now they and their families are being threatened. I sincerely object to this, but Republicans have no one to blame but themselves, Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney respectfully excepted.
Yes, no argument over their failure to get rid of Frump. Not defending that, or them, in any way. And this is not a plea for sympathy for them. Threats are a real thing that is going on now, and this is blocking Congress from dealing with Frump. We need more than blame and sincere objections to deal with this. We need something that works.
Again, you're right on the money! But this is complicated by the current administration's deliberate corruption and disenfranchisement of the DOJ and the FBI. While Trump is blithely ignoring the courts, he and his cohort are also compromising the effectiveness of those powers that still endeavor to uphold our laws. I fear that we are in serious trouble. I am not trying to contradict you. As in many things, I suppose we must trust in the courts to hold the threateners and bomb throwers to full account.
Yes, home grown in the Hot House of Un-reality TV & "deals".
On continuing deportations, actionable facts have been collected by AP's Seung Min Kim & Marcos Aleman & reported out this evening 4/14/25 at 6:00 PM.
About 6 weeks ago starting in Mach 2025, Trump paid Bukele $6,000 000 to jail about 200 VENEZUELANs at CECOT.
I could comment to "follow the money" at this point but, I believe Senator Chris Van Hollen (MD) & other Senators are way ahead of Trump, Pamela Bondi, Steve Miller & others. Any contractual agreement oral-or-written can be dissected.
Just Saturday, 11/13/2025, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated "10 more people" were disappeared to CECOT. No one to my knowledge has identified the "10 more people".
I will ask the question if no else will with all the abrupt admissions of intent to send "Home growns" to foreign prisons -- are any of the "10 more people" United States citizens? In any case who actually are the 10 recent deportees?
And, we should be protesting the Republicans in Congress and calling out their names and working to get rid of them. Step, by step. However, I am not sure that there will be elections any more in the USA.
I feel like the only solution at this point is impeachment of Trump, Vance and the entire cabinet. It’s clear the courts won’t stop him. We need to convince those Republicans in Congress that Trump will send them there next if they do the slightest thing to displease him.
Those Democrats that say they are going to visit the prison are wasting their time. They will most likely not be allowed in and then again may be imprisoned themselves as political enemies. That’s just how much of a shithole country Trump gas turned us into.
Agree with your comment Laurie. Trump and his minions are doing everything wrong everywhere all at the same time. Economically, legally, socially, educationally, environmentally, system destruction. "Oopsie too late", epitaph for representative democracy.
Use this spreadsheet to call/email/write any of our representatives as often as possible. Not just your own state reps, reach out to those in other states. Be as loud as you can and share this. Use your voice and make some “good trouble.”
I've called my representatives in Congress everyday and NOTHING is being done to rein in this madman! Our intelligence agencies need to get involved and find a permanent solution. Yes, I mean exactly what I'm saying. TRump needs to be gone.
Intelligence and military. During the Signal debacle, the Navy pilots who actually were involved in CLASSIFIED information, were apoplectic in the release of vital information 2-3 hours before they dropped their bombs. I really don't believe that many of the military are happy with what is going on in our government, and feel threatened.
I have my doubts about some who are serving in our military. 65% of active service members voted for TRump. This is yet another reason I am so frightened.😞
I am aware, but they may be regretting that decision. Again, I'm basing this on the very strong, angry response from the Navy pilots who could have been blown to bits during the Signal debacle. They were furious.
they have Fox 'news' on all day long at all the commissaries - so the military don't have a clue about what's really going on, but their rage is stoked constantly.
And Trump is firing military higher ups who won’t punish any slight descent from the ranks or who don’t repeat this administration’s hardline views: See Greenland.
Yes, he is firing higher ups on a daily basis, but the military commander on Greenland spoke against the US takeover of Greenland after the Vances left. She's probably out of a job now, but she spoke her mind.
I am wondering if there is some backdoor way of bringing the lawless threatening truth to the armed forces. It seems vital we move them out of the bubble. But how?
Nice idea, and I commend your activity, but contacting Congressional members is about as useful as collecting junk mail. They are either afraid of the tyrant, love the money they're raking in to live their lavish lifestyles, or totally believe in this goon. And they have absolutely no respect for their constituents, or very few do. Mine in Ohio certainly don't; won't even respond to any contacts. And all of the while, the Dems are befuddled and confused. Where are the powerful people in this country who hate this guy? They're there, but are saying very little, if anything. Just watching the country go down the drain, and the world laughing at us.
While I agree with you, I personally think if we don’t make a lot of noise right now, we’re being complicit and in a way giving our reps more reason to not grow a backbone and stop this madness. I also reach out for my own mental health. Sending emails after my girls go to bed helps me feel like I’m doing something right now instead of just scrolling media sites feeling broken, disgusted and angry ❤️🩹
Thx you for the contact info spreadsheet. It will come in handy for me. I create postcards and send multiple weekly to Congress, POTUS, SCOTUS and other elected officials. It’s cathartic to express my outrage (or to thank someone for doing the right thing).
And I agree with you that flooding inboxes, mailboxes and phone lines does and will make a difference. Keep on going!
I think it's wonderful that you're doing what you feel is a powerful statement; good for you, honestly, and I'm sure it keeps you sane. I know it may feel that those of us who don't reach out to our Congressional "reps" may be complicit; we are not at all. But at my age, I simply don't have the energy to engage in what I consider, for me, to be useless activities, particularly in Ohio, when the reps don't even open your emails, letters, voicemails, etc. What good are communications if they are not even read? Maybe you live in a state that has responsive reps. I, sadly, do not. I do what I can with online communications, reading as much as I can, and will certainly vote against the assholes anytime a legal election is held. But I do commend your fortitude.
I feel the same way. But the social security “dead file” is a cyber reach tantamount to absolute enslavement and arbitrary power over all our lives.
It leaves me thinking I have to clear my traceables and, at an elderly age and despite crippling infirmity and a home my husband and I love, leave and seek refuge and citizenship elsewhere.
That or go into self-willed silent exile in my life here. 😔
Thank you for this. I will also be contacting everyone I know in other states to make life miserable for their congressional delegations until impeachment is moving forward. And in the meantime, to demand the end of taxpayers funding a concentration camp.
Thanks for the spreadsheet - I will share with my friends and family. I have been waiting for the redline for the Republican congress— that point where this shitshow has gone too far even for them and they have to act. If the markets and economy continue to crater, and if we the people demand action loudly and consistently, that may finally trigger them to hold Trump, et al accountable.
I don’t think that writing to a Congressional representative or Senator from outside of their jurisdiction will get any attention, but certainly NOT contacting them wont get any attention.
Yes. So true. I’m enjoying the idea right now of helping things become frustratingly overwhelming with hopefully thousands of emails, letters and voicemails. I get it they can be ignored, but volume can speak loudly 🤞
Fortunately, the scroll on substack doesn't work that way. And you already know what I think of this kind of action. It backfires and ends up shutting off the access by the actual constituents.
But the document can still help people reach out to their own reps as well. There are a lot of resources to help people contact their reps - I’ve put a couple on the spreadsheet like 5calls, resistbot, and I might not have added Card Campaign yet but keep meaning to
If you created it, or know who did, they might want to add this link to it as well. Tells you how they voted! I use it daily. https://justfacts.votesmart.org
The Supreme Court Justices must not be feeling so supreme right now. Trump and company are laughing in their faces. Let’s see what sort of courage they have at this moment. We should not hold our breath……
Mike, what was it CF47 said to John Roberts on the way out from his address to Congress in February? "Thank you, I won't forget this."? Shame, shame on all of them.
The conservative wing of the Supreme Court of the United States are all cowards. They should feel ashamed of themselves, but none of them have any shame. THEY'RE CORRUPT.
. It is not the whole Supreme Court that is not feeling so Supreme right now., It is the Chief and four of his colleagues who granted THIS President and possibly no other a vague immunity that this President and his so called lawyers are using to trample all over the Constitution and therefore the Court We know that at least 2 of the Conservative Justices (Kavanaugh and Barrett--ironic?) are aware of the assault on the rule of law and civility that is occurring in this country. So we are very close to reaching the point where there will be an issue before the Supremes where they have to decide whether to hold DOJ in contempt for its blind support of the moral bilge spewing from this Administration .Maybe that is why real lawyers are bailing out at a rate faster they than can be replaced by the corrupt incompetents that agree with Trump. The last set of lawyers who chose Trump over the Rule of Law (Giuliani, Eastman ,Powell etc. etc. etc
Today, my entire family (children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren) attended the Bernie / AOC town hall at the ruby red Idaho Ford Center, capacity is 12,297. But, it was packed to the rafters with people standing, people in wheelchairs and walkers. Estimated at 13,000+. And, the rafters were blown out with sound, cheering, booing all the crap, and applause for all that Bernie, AOC, and many others are trying to do to resist, fight, and push back. The MAGA showing on the sidewalk out front was pathetic with less than 10 people with one Trump flag and one other non-descript flag. The Idaho Women Forward group swelled from 400 to 17,000 at last count, since just before the election. They were, no doubt, well represented at this event. THERE IS HOPE! And, the crowd included every age group. It was impressive and encouraging as we move forward from one day of horror to the next.
Yes. That's the instinct. I just want us to find a way or ways to make that effective and not just exhausting. I'm still pondering it. Maybe all we can do is safely join street protests and flood the zone of elected officials with emails and phone calls and postcards and letters. We know that has been effective in the past. I just don't know that Republicans can be made to care or that Democrats can be made to act. I suppose we have to try.
So those Idaho crowds have to bombard Senators Crapo and Risch with enough protests to get them to impeach and remove the orange menace. Or recall them and remove them from office. Were they part of the group who gave a standing ovation at the SOU? Every one of those Republicans are traitors.
I'm sure Crapo and Risch were among those morons who gave a standing ovation. We do what we can to flood all the MAGAs in charge in Idaho with protest letters, emails, rallies on the capitol steps, etc. We need more Dems in office here.
Hey Joyce, I have an idea, have you asked your readers if they are lawyers if any of them want to organize others to represent pro bono clients that the Trump Administration illegally arrests, detains, imprisons? With a growing number of large law firms bending the knee to Trump, there will truly be a need. Thanks for thinking if this is an ask you want to make and encourage people to consider. I have an attorney friend who is feeling so down and this is the kind of project where she could help and it would give her hope and a way to fight back. Dave
I would, I don’t know anything about that kind of law, and the logistics are tough but I totally agree, we need lawyers to step up as individuals not just law firms!
The ACLU accepts attorneys who represent clients pro bono. Immigrants’ rights is one of the organization’s key areas of focus. According to their website, it is surprising to find out that most deportees in the U.S. do not receive court representation. This organization needs our support now more than ever.
Hungary, Turkey, El Salvador, North Korea, or Saudi Arabia for starters. I suggest sending him to one of those uninhabited (at least by humans) islands that he put tariffs on.
Joyce, thank you for addressing this. I don’t understand why so few are. Where is Congress? I am terrified, beyond terrified. Any of us can be disappeared forever.I feel like 5calls, protests, emails, etc. are all futile. We are protesting into a canyon and nobody in Congress is listening. I believe SCOTUS has been rendered useless.
We are here, as you say: The US is now a dictatorship. Just as he promised. Like hitler wrote in Mein Kampf. Nobody listened then either.
Look up every member of the caucus. Go to their websites. Read their press releases. Go to the CSpan archives. Go to youtube.
There are members of Congress who are working very hard. We need to start working every day towards the 2026 election. A Democratic majority will make all the difference.
And pay attention to the state and local elections as well, because those people will be our future foundation. We need them in place now so they'll be ready when we need them. The more Ds,Ps, and liberal Is we elect, the better off we'll be.
I used to feel that way until today. Concentration camps in El Salvador changed the story. I’ve interviewed hundreds of Holocaust survivors. This is happening faster than in 1930s Germany.
I wholeheartedly agree with you! I have been calling not only my representatives in Congress from California, but other Congressional members as well, to no avail. It feels like a fruitless effort and that I'm wasting my time, because nothing is happening to stop this madness.
Joyce, the question remains, where are the people who should be standing up and protesting loudly? Where are Obama, Clinton, W. Bush, and Al Gore. It should not be just Liz Warren, Bernie Sanders and AOC. Where are the people who have lead this country and why are they silent? Why isn't anyone declaring our present situation a coup? Why isn't anyone moving to stop this insane man? I have been reading Project 2025 and posting on my own Substack about what's in it and Trump is more or less following it day by day. What is stated there defines his policies and what they expect him to do in his first 90 days. I simply do not understand the deafening silence from people who could be vocal and visible but are not. You know many of these individuals, and others, Joyce. Can you explain to us?
I'd add to your list of Democrats all the "real" Republicans who held office over the last 30+ years.
It's stunning to me that the only members of that group who are willing to continue to speak out and fight for the democratic REPUBLIC are Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. It's not enough to leave it to the Charlie Sykeses, Tim Millers, Lincoln Project etc to speak truth to power. Most MAGA fascists don't read, and certainly don't question the insanity of the Executive. We can't afford to wait the 15 months until the 2026 election (if there is one).
We have been saying this same thing for months! In fact, we contacted Obama through his Library website, and also GW Bush and Bill Clinton (possibly their websites?). We got absolutely NO RESPONSE from any of them! Shameful and completely unimaginable that they apparently don't give a crap about our country anymore. How can they have been presidents of the US, and not care about the dismantling of it???
The District Court judge at tomorrow's hearing re Mr. Abrego Garcia should declare the Government in civil contempt, order the bailiff to confiscate the government's appearing attorneys Drew Ensign, M. Victoria Martin, Samuel Nitze and Samuel Heavenrich's phone & computer, and immediately jail all four until they fully comply with her order. Martin, Nitze, and Heavenrich showed today they can timely comply with the order to file a motion for pro hac vice. So they can take the punishment for disobeying a court order.
In the news coverage I watched tonight, they made it sound like the president of El Salvador refused to return him, but the odd exchange at the White House between the president of El Salvador and the AG made it sound a lot more, to me, like he was saying that no one had actually asked him to even do so, nor had they given him permission.
Bondi claimed that the USA was only required to "facilitate if" El Salvador wanted to return him.
To this statement the president of El Salvador responded by saying that he could not just "smuggle him in" (to me meaning without permission or a request from the USA).
It seemed like he "implied" he did not have permission.
I only watched clips, so if I missed something, let me know.
So, why are they really doing this bizarre dance? My guess is that he may no longer be alive. I hope I am wrong, but the admin has nothing to gain by not following the court ruling in this particular case, in my view. Even if they are moving towards authoritarianism, they would want to "appear" to comply here and there, as a cover, one would think. So it concerns me as to why this is happening.
I also want to know if the 10 more they sent to El Salvador received the due process that SCOTUS said was necessary. This is also a really big deal. I think many now have a sense that anyone can be kidnapped and jailed and never seen again.
The least the Democrats can do is to send a Congressional delegation to El Salvador and insist on the same concentration camp access as Noem was granted. Bring cameras, take names, take statements. Do NOT let them get away with this!!
The defiance of TRump's Clown Car Cabinet is absolutely appalling and the sycophants in the Republican party are blatantly ignoring these egregious actions. This situation and how it is being handled is a disgrace! I've broken down in tears several times thinking about this man being imprisoned in a madhouse, locked away, with no ability to contact his family. Something drastic needs to happen, and soon, before it's too late to turn back what's already been done and will only to get worse. I am simply bereft and my anger is eating me alive.😡
I agree -- as long as he gets to be on TV and be the center of attention and insult people he's happy.

He has been convicted on 34 counts of non-violent crimes and also for sexual abuse & defamation of Ms Carroll.
wonder how much money comes in for back taxes today for him? And how many quarterlies for future taxes will come in today as well?
Yes, he paid for a year. What happens then? Did Congress approve this? Will El Salvador kill them at the end of a year?
A MALIGNANT NARCISSITIC orange-faced COCKroach!!!
Miller should be the first one locked up in El Salvador.
Along with alien from SA - Musk-RAT!!
Don't forget about Tom Homan, the demon Border Czar, who "loves" his job!
Yes... and Heritage Foundation
And the Federalist Society
Impeachment? Turning to Vance? From the frying pan to the fire?
Both have to go along with the heads of both in congress. Then we might have a fighting chance of ridding ourselves of the corrupt cabinet members and the crazies like rfkj
Not to forget -- the line of succession proceeds from VP to Speaker to Senate president pro tem and then down the entire list of cabinet secretaries, in the order their positions were created: State, Treasury, Defense, Attorney General, etc., down to Homeland Secretary.
4 years is way to long to suffer. The damage will be immense and irreversible.
I don’t believe America can come back from this. The wounds are too deep, the shamelessness too pervasive and the audacity absolute.
The "wounds" go back to the founding of the republic -- and earlier. Slavery and Jim Crow, the Trail of Tears and what followed, were every bit as shameless and audacious as this, but they weren't happening to white people. My ancestors fought against all the above. I kept it going until I could no longer go into the streets. My pittance of SS goes to those who are trying to save DEMOCRACY. None to Democrats who vote for trump.
Keep your fears to yourself but share your courage with others.
We have never seen this test. But we have seen other tests which had equivalent consequences. We won through all of those.
We need to step up, not give up.

Thank You, Cyndi.
As things are going—and I expect they will continue—elections in 18 months will be an enormous blue wave sweeping out repubs in both houses of congress and installing significant, maybe even veto proof, democratic majorities.
I can't imagine that Trump will permit free and fair elections in 18 months. The blue wave has to happen now, in the streets.
$
Always about the Money..Honey!
I am shocked that Democrats would vote for a Poll Tax on women.
What election? If midterms are allowed to happen at all, rest assured that they will be nothing resembling "free and fair".

Elections? We don't need no stinkin' elections! Vamanos!
Cissna, my hope is that this will happen, if it doesn't.....
Really, you still think that there’ll be fair elections in two, let alone four years? Come on, seriously?
Shirley you jest, Shirley!!!
It’s time to protect hearth and home by whatever means.
What means? What can ordinary people do, when those we elect do this???? The power is in voting and voting has been stolen possibly forever. And the opposition party is Neville Chamberlain.
I am looking for the 70 million who did not vote to rectify their mistake. Voting has great power.
How does one do this when at any moment there might be a knock on the door?
The Khalil decision was appalling.
Horrible!
Also part of the real problem is the republican members of the US congress. They have the power to stop this and send a message to Vance.
But they won’t, and in there is the problem!
Is the money THAT good for them?
Wait til it's their (white) neighbors who did nothing wrong except fly a Pride Flag for their grandson....and the underinformed white voters are shaking in their shoes for fear of who might be next.
Wait till it's too late, iow. It seems it is already too late.
I have two small upside down flags in my front window ..and that makes me a rebel in my bubble of a neighborhood.
Far from slick.
also very clumsy - EVIL CLOWN!!!
https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/14/politics/video/vance-drops-college-football-championship-trophy-white-house-digvid
Make America Gulaged Again, right?
I may be wrong in my understanding of Latin nomenclature, but doesn't "per curiam" mean unsigned?
It means "by the court" so basically yes
Okay, thanks. That helps.
But the justices can still issue dissents.
https://www.abajournal.com/web/article/judge-labeled-radical-left-lunatic-by-trump-shouldnt-be-hearing-deportation-case-supreme-court-says#google_vignette
which are as useful as "thoughts and prayers"
What galls me is that nobody (and that includes the minority justices) challegenge individual justices on bias. At every other level judges are in some manner voir dired for bias.
If there is a conflict, judges and justices are supposed to disclose them on the record. 28 U.S. Code § 455 - Disqualification of justice, judge, or magistrate judge
(a)Any justice, judge, or magistrate judge of the United States shall disqualify himself in any proceeding in which his impartiality might reasonably be questioned.
"Shall" is supposed to be mandatory.
Perhaps self interest and betrayal was always going to be the end. Human nature has never been angelic, with apologies to the psalmist.
per curiam: it means fucked you again
And all the traitorous Republicans in Congress should join him.
You say they fear the boss, however he is NOT the boss. The voters are their one and only boss! They have clearly lost sight of that.
EXACTLY!
When elections are stolen, fiddled with, hacked into, the voters have no power. Republicans have been vote suppressing for years! Making it harder. I doubt we will ever have another free or fair election if we continue to have sham ones.
Neil, as did a lot of voters...
they get a lot of death threats if they even appear likely to vote against what Trump wants.
So first they refuse to impeach -- for some unknown reason
Then they refuse to speak out -- for fear of cult members
Is that really the best their party had to offer as elected representatives?
Thank you, Gerry Mander
Romney, and all the other cowards, will have to live in fear forever. They are failing to make the details of every threat very public which hurts the entire country. It gives the regime more power when they can continue to operate under cover.
The money and the power is all they desire. Oaths of Office? Don’t be silly. They are all Legends In Their Own Minds…
It's why all Americans need to take to the streets. The whole country needs to stand up against this nightmare.
And we need a national strike.
Elaborate, please?
Plaster those threats on the front pages of every media source every day. Let the world see that it will be them who are threatened next.
That's what i'm thinking...at least for starters...
Trump now has his own personal militia…Brown Shirts for Trump…
Trump is definitely "Home grown."
They want it to happen. That is where we are.
We have a Congress in full support of an authoritarian dictator. Not complicit, but fully cooperating.
Not turning blind eyes, but looking on with delight.
My mood turns from grief to rage throughout this demolition of democracy. We need to take our country back.
What did you find out when you called and/or texted/emailed these questions to your Congresspeople?
I couldn’t agree more and have been thinking this for a while. I don’t know what we can do to make this happen.
No one ever expected the entire Republican Congress to become traitors, did they?
The ones who disapprove must be named and confronted publicly, since they’re responsible for all of this!
Keep being loud!
Use this spreadsheet to call/email/write any of our representatives as often as possible. Not just your own state reps, reach out to those in other states. Be as loud as you can and share this. Use your voice and make some “good trouble.”
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13lYafj0P-6owAJcH-5_xcpcRvMUZI7rkBPW-Ma9e7hw/edit
I hope you're right. We need to know that our troops have our backs, like we have theirs. TRump sure doesn't.
they have Fox 'news' on all day long at all the commissaries - so the military don't have a clue about what's really going on, but their rage is stoked constantly.
And this was deliberate by Murdoch, having Fox on all public stations. He set it up and paid for it years ago.
But will they disobey an order from the commander in chief?
Depends on if they follow their oaths to the Constitution or not.
I agree with you. It is shameful how Congress is acting. All the more reason to overwhelm their staffers in my opinion 😅
They report to Trump
This would be something that wouldn't be reported to TRump...
I hope someone is working behind the scene. I agree. We can't take much more.
I am wondering if there is some backdoor way of bringing the lawless threatening truth to the armed forces. It seems vital we move them out of the bubble. But how?
Vote vets and other such groups are working very hard
I totally agree. They know damn well what's on the line.
Yesss! Way to go!!
Thank you so much for posting, Megan! Very helpful information!
Yes. In an hour you can leave many messages.
Thank you, Megan. The spreadsheet is super helpful. We must be heard and you've made it easier.
Thanks for the information!
Thank you for the list Megan. Send a reminder to Repubs that this is their doing, voting in the most inexperienced,
inappropriate, incompetent cabinet in American History. Their children and grandchildren will remember what theý did.
Thank you for this reference. Very helpful.
Thank you
Appreciate it!
Thanks Megan!
Thank you! I’ll look and add it - I did create it 💙
The Supreme Court Justices must not be feeling so supreme right now.
The last set of lawyers who chose Trump over the Rule of Law (Giuliani, Eastman ,Powell etc. etc. etc
The time is now. We are in a constitutional crises and the Supreme Court seems to be clueless.
The problem is the people have no power thanks to Republican politicians enabling the coup. Martial law is next.
We fight as long as we can.
Thank you for sharing this very encouraging news!! I greatly appreciate it. 🇺🇸
On Sunday there were over 20K in SLC UT! On Saturday over 36K in DTLA!
Yes!!! Keep it up!! Thank you.
Thanks for this report. We don’t get it from the media.
I'm sure not. But, they can't keep us all quiet. At least not for now.
What are they suggesting we do?
I send them money every month. Good org.
TRump knows how to make people disappear. These attorneys will need protection.
Trump is a criminal.
He is “homegrown”
Therefore DEPORT HIM!
TRump needs to be disappeared!😡
I think it's correctly called: RENDITION!
I just love that term
😇😇👿👿😎😎
Not necessary. He'll go by way of self-implosion.
We don't have time to wait for that.
Other than Putin, who would take him?
Hungary, Turkey, El Salvador, North Korea, or Saudi Arabia for starters. I suggest sending him to one of those uninhabited (at least by humans) islands that he put tariffs on.
Hey, have mercy on the penguins!
Not even the devil
Trump is NOT paying for the incarceration in question. We - the American People - are paying. Trump is just writing checks out of our account.
Joyce, I’m terrified right now. Simply terrified.
You're not alone. I'm absolutely unable to think straight at this point and am ready to tear my hair out.
Caucus Members | Congressional Progressive Caucus
.https://progressives.house.gov/caucus-members.
Agree 💯.
Thank you. I continue to call, contact, engage with Congress. I wish it felt more empowering.
It is not about how we feel. It is about what we can get done.
I used to feel that way until today. Concentration camps in El Salvador changed the story. I’ve interviewed hundreds of Holocaust survivors. This is happening faster than in 1930s Germany.
I totally agree with you. I just emailed all my reps and said I wanted to hear loud voices decrying these illegal imprisonments. Why does no one care?
I wholeheartedly agree with you! I have been calling not only my representatives in Congress from California, but other Congressional members as well, to no avail. It feels like a fruitless effort and that I'm wasting my time, because nothing is happening to stop this madness.
Exactly! Same here. At this point, Joyce and her substack feel like the only sane place.
PAM BONDAGE must be disbarred.
Well-crafted complaints by parties with standing need to be written and filed with the relevant state bar associations.
I am wondering same. Where are our past Presidents? Why are they silent?
Beautiful idea...I hope they do it! They'd have to be prepared for push back from #47 & DOJ etc.
The Supreme Court Got It Badly Wrong.
Again.
Terrifying.
None of the people sent to El Salvador received Constitutionally mandated Due Process.
So, after SCOTUS just made a point of this and that due process was necessary, they just sent 10 more and ignored the court?
Look up the term RENDITION
It's what's happening.
That's right. Why isn't anyone using this term?!
The least the Democrats can do is to send a Congressional delegation to El Salvador and insist on the same concentration camp access as Noem was granted. Bring cameras, take names, take statements. Do NOT let them get away with this!!
Senator Van Hollen has requested through our ambassador there to do just that.
I hope he’s not imprisoned as a political threat and kept there.
I hope he does not go alone. He will be disappeared.
Not a bad idea. Of course, bodyguards would have to accompany them, as they would be in danger, but the idea is intriguing.
