I can't believe our national websites have become platforms for disinformation and propaganda. Each day brings a new slap in the face, and there seems to be no tangible recourse. I hope a new administration can change this and add the needed guardrails and clear consequences. Heather Cox Richardson gives a great historical accounting of January 6, 2021 here: https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/january-5-2026-monday
"Trump concludes: “The Democrats masterfully reversed reality after January 6, branding peaceful patriotic protesters as ‘insurrectionists’ and framing the event as a violent coup attempt orchestrated by Trump—despite no evidence of armed rebellion or intent to overthrow the government."
What Trump so sorely lacks in elocution he makes up for with projection.
We who saw the insurrection with our own eyes will forever have that reality burnt into our brains.
Jack Smith knows it, and has all the evidence to prove it.
What is so obviously contradictory are the videos of the insurrectionists beating the hell out of the Capitol Police, desecrating the Capitol, the police on site stating clearly what they saw and experienced, etc etc etc. So all of this visual and auditory information, testimony and evidence are lies??? The cops, who are paid by the Feds, just made up their injuries? The cop who killed himself over it all just did it for the hell of it? The shit on the walls was a figment of imagination? The asshole who put his feet on Pelosi's desk (on video) really wasn't there? The Black cop who was chased up the stairs by a mad crowd of racists made it all up? (Again, on video). Pence wasn't threatened and there were no gallows erected? What in God's name has happened to the friggin' truth in this country? It is all on video, in testimony by personal witnesses and victims. And still, Trump, Fox News, etc etc calls it "peaceful". And the con artist pardons these criminals. FYI: many of them have committed crimes and have been rearrested I have read, or have serious, documented mental health issues. What a surprise. DT always looks for the weakest, dumbest, most idiotic populace to sell his BS. And the end product is always to make himself, the weakest, dumbest, most idiotic president, look better than a manhole. It hasn't worked and won't.
No shit. So the videos were doctored??? Right. Say that to the cops who had the crap beat out of them, or the black cop who was chased up the stairs while being called the N word. All on video, all very clear and concise. All true.
The truth has been documented many times, and when the treasonous horde is out of power, the lies will be a warning to all not to lose sight of the truth again, and the damage the lies can do.
Be very careful about demanding OR expecting consequences.
I am virtually certain that, unless he is a complete and utter idiot (which is of course possible), Trump will pardon EVERY person involved with his administration and his various nonsense so that no one will be able to be prosecuted in the future. This will happen on the very last day of his administration to make sure it includes all dates up to and including the very last day he is in office (pardons MUST be backward-looking, they can NOT be prospective).
Jon, I suspect we are all careful, but also hopeful. Even if Trump should pardon all the creeps he has bamboozled into serving his aims (of course while they are getting their own "needs" met), We the People can do a lot to let them understand what we think of them. Shunning would be a good thing, taking away most of their money and resources, actually following anti-trust laws and breaking up their corporations and making sure they have only the little piece. We have to be more careful that we don't lose hope, or our nation is lost. despair helps no one but the oppressors!
This isn’t “history.” It’s an attempted replacement of the public record with a curated fiction. It’s performing narrative laundering…stripping context, inverting blame, and presenting a legally disproven storyline as if it were an official timeline.
The pattern is familiar. Isolate one “peaceful” phrase, elevate it as absolution, and ignore the full transcript, the court rulings, the indictments, and the documented sequence of events. It’s the same revisionist instinct we’ve seen in other arenas this week: when reality is inconvenient, rewrite the exhibit and hope the public forgets the original.
The Pelosi clip, the inverted accusations, the selective editing—-it all functions like museum revisionism. Swap the placard, change the lighting, and pretend the underlying facts have changed.
Truth doesn’t defend itself. Someone has to drag it back into daylight every time it’s pushed out.
The real fight is over whether documented history can be overwritten by repetition.
Institutions can be temporarily captured. Public memory can’t be, unless we let it drift.
Kathleen, so thanks to all the folks today who have been standing up and calling the white house BS what it is, the frightened child-man trying to get everyone to believe his nonsense because, well, he is god's messenger, so if he says it happened that way, it must have, right!. In Trump's dementia, he may at least partially remember things that way, but he didn't write that posting. Whoever did, knows the truth and lied for the benefit of his toddler boss, Donald Trump. That is inexcusable!
The best refutation of the careening scheiße of these trumper tantrums. As Rep. Raskin later observed, Mrs Hemphill was one of the few, perhaps only, convicted insurrectionists who merits a pardon from her assuming responsibility for her actions, making proper amends, and showing contrition. She refused to accept the pardon.😯
For people who have five minutes only not the half a day required to read Special Counsel Smith's damning deposition and to watch today's hearing among House Democrats about 06jan21, of which this woman's statement was a part.⚖️
Mrs. Hemphill's testimony was so moving and convincing, I don't think there could be a better witness. Of course, the liar in chief has already moved on to accusing Governor Walz of killing a Democratic Minnesota State Senator, her husband and their dog. The lies just keep on coming, and while they are dangerous and damaging, perhaps one of them will become so transparently false that this madness will break. Certainly, he's long since broken Senator McCarthy's record for damaging innocent people.
It's just so twisted. This morning I read in the Huffington Post about the protest on the mall by pardoned January 6 participants who are still not happy. The Justice Department has paid Ashley Babbitt's mother $5 million in damages for her death. Imagine if you were a Capitol police officer on that day. Conspiracy theories are so poisonous, and we know where they start.
I've called my senators twice since the Venezuela attack, and have left voice mails (I live in a heavily Republican state). Can't wait to see how they defend Trump's actions.
Unfortunately and sadly, the GOP does not have a complete monopoly on distortions of history. We shouldn't forget that Lyndon Johnson led us into a major war based on completely disproven assertions against reality in Indochina. We shouldn't forget that Clinton sold out this country to the GOP in the 1990s. There have been outstanding and upstanding politicians who told the truth even to their own detriment, but those people are few and far between.
Joyce, can something be done legally to challenge this??? This is NOT free speech. It is a public and utterly untruthful assertion on a website which rightfully should be serving and representing the American people. If he wants to spill this poison on [un]Truth Social, that should be his prerogative but NOT on a site that should rightfully represent the people.
I don't agree that it's his prerogative. He's the chief executive of our country, and we have never tolerated a president who disparaged his opponents in the shameful way he does. Nevermind the mode of communication. I keep wondering if the fact that the duly elected president of Venezuela won the Nobel Peace Prize that he wanted so badly was partly responsible for his actions. She's now offering to give it to him. I would hope she'd want the job she was elected to in exchange. But his language is out of line entirely.
The only way to manage a president (esp after the Supreme Court decision) is through impeachment which requires the establishment of “high crimes and misdemeanors”. My own belief is that he has demonstrated a myriad of those but under our constitution he is entitled to freedom of speech.
All of this is, of course, just sophistry. Impeachment only matters if the person impeached can be convicted and ousted from office. That can't happen in this period of time because the Senate needs to be able to collect 67 votes to convict in a Trump impeachment and that isn't going to happen with the GOP holding 53 seats and won't happen even if the Dems take back the Senate by 2 or 3 votes in 2026. So impeachment is a waste of time and energy better spent on serious ways of combatting this administration both in the courts and at the ballot box.
It’s hardly sophistry though I agree that this Congress would never impeach and convict, despite his clearly meeting criteria. We’ll see whether or not we have an election this year. And take it from there. This DOJ will not go after the corruption and we’ve seen where SCOTUS has taken us.
You are correct. Machado was barred from running by Maduro, so Gonzalez ran in her stead. They won with more than twice as many votes as Maduro, but, like Trump but successfully, he pretended he won anyway and refused to relinquish office.
Apologies for my mistaken post below, which I'm deleting. Gonzales was the winner. Maria Corian Machado was the opposition leader who won the Nobel prize but not the election. Trump called her a "nice woman" but said he preferred Rodriguez, who who was Maduro's vice president.
Definitely so — hers is a pro-democracy platform and movement, to the best of my understanding. Had she turned down the Nobel and offered it to Trump instead, she'd probably be president right now.
But Trump (well, Stephen Miller through Marco Rubio) worked out a deal with Rodriguez and the security minister to let them stay in power in return for letting the US have its way with Venezuelan oil, is my guess.
The law requires a new election within 30 days. Wanna bet that gets blown past like all the other laws Trump has broken?
She did not win the election - Gonzalez did. She was banned from running. I don’t believe she’s offering to give the peace prize to him (where have you seen that????). And - much as we might not like it - the president is entitled to free speech as we all are, but there should be limits about utilizing spaces where he is functioning in the role of president to do it. I think his right to have erected the presidential photos with his personal disparagement at the White House should be forbidden.
Asked by Fox News whether she had offered to give Trump the prize, Machado said: “It hasn’t happened yet, but I would certainly love to be able to personally tell him that we believe the Venezuelan people – because this is a prize of the Venezuelan people – certainly want to give it to him and share it with him.”
This is where social media presents new challenges to freedom of speech. Does the White House have the right to publish misinformation on its website? Does the president have the right to insist on his version of the "truth"?
Doubt it. The corporate media - mostly co-opted by Trump - will claim they report the “news” not opinion … all the while knowingly codifying all those lies.
FfsBoise, along with the other members of the toddler pool and military personnel who planned the attack and kidnapping. Trump is nuts, but the others all knew it and acted on his behalf anyway. Shame on the military folks, Rubio, and especially Hegseth, who participated when they must have known they were working against our constitution.
Patricia, which is funny since Trump has never actually protected anyone. He may have temporarily hidden their actions, but always held them in case they did something Trump didn't like. Trump is simply evil and now that his dementia is increasing, he will just blurt out anything and order anything, gleefully excited that he has done harm to someone he either doesn't like or who has somehow gotten in his way. He is a badly parented toddler-man who thinks he should be able to do whatever he wants and no one should be able to stop him. He is egged on by the sycophantic fools he has around him who can only say "yes" while they await Trump's demise so they can do even more harm. That won't happen because no one likes any of them except Trump, sort of. Trump's MAGA followers have no clue, or rather they choose to know nothing (like Schultz on "Hogan's Heroes). The truth is out here in numerous places, but they can't imagine their darling Donnie would betray them, something he is doing every day.
Thank you so much for keeping us informed Joyce. I appreciate your newsletters, videos and constant uplifting, encouraging words. I also love your chickens! :)
How do you counter this stuff? I've seen grossly inaccurate "history" that is presented as fact taught in our public schools. When this garbage is presented as pure fact on a government website, how do you dispute it effectively?? We were here when it happened; so, we know better. What will people born after it happened believe?
It's discouraging, to say the least, that Trump is using the anniversary of his insurrection to attempt to change the facts. We all saw the insurrection in real time and heard his remarks and we know he's lying. It's important to keep saying that. Jack Smith is right. If it wasn't for Trump, the insurrection would not have happened. I will continue to call it an insurrection.
“The evidence here made clear that President Trump was by a large measure the most culpable and most responsible person in this conspiracy. These crimes were committed for his benefit. The attack that happened at the Capitol, part of this case, does not happen without him. The other co-conspirators were doing this for his benefit" ~ former special counsel, Jack Smith, testifying before the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee.
“He made false statements to state legislatures, to his supporters in all sorts of contexts and was aware in the days leading up to Jan. 6th that his supporters were angry when he invited them and then he directed them to the Capitol."
"Now, once they were at the Capitol and once the attack on the Capitol happened, he refused to stop it. He instead issued a tweet that without question in my mind endangered the life of his own vice president. And when the violence was going on, he had to be pushed repeatedly by his staff members to do anything to quell it.”
Hopefully someone made a screenshot or copy of what the original text was. I have made a lot of pdf files of things on Government websites as they were prior to Jan 2025.
Horrifying! I believe that this and all the abominations that this administration has perpetrated on our country and our democracy will be reversed some day but it is increasingly more threatening.
Have you seen the entire transcript of everything he said on January 6 before the riot? You can find it here.https://www.rev.com/transcripts/donald-trump-speech-save-america-rally-transcript-january-6. He Harangued them for a good hour about how the election had been stolen, speaking in detail about various states. I wish there were an accompanying column with references regarding the evidence that he is lying. The piece that is always quoted is actually way up toward the beginning of that speech, and it actually is not specifically urging violence. This speech needs to be preserved for posterity, together with the evidence that he is lying, lying and lying.
"Tonight, I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain."
- Liz Cheney, from her opening remarks on the Jan. 6 hearings, June 9, 2022
Yep. I am no Cheney fan, to be honest, her political positions are so diametrically opposed to mine that it would be hard to want to support her politically.
HOWEVER, she has SHOWN (not just by word but by action) the nature of a true patriot, one who will be brutally honest regardless of the personal consequences. Cheney's position, taken with the utmost integrity, cast her out of the party she stood for with her honest (if I believe not ideal) beliefs, solely because she refused to capitulate to Trump's mafia-like tactics. You don't have to like her politics necessarily to love her belief in honesty and integrity.

I filed a fraud report with the FTC about the White House 1/6/21 webpage. It may not change the website, but it becomes a matter of record.
What a great idea; good for you. Pushback comes in many forms and is cumulative.
Could you share your report? I will do the same! Thanks
Most Excellent.
If I could do clapping hands emojis, you get a bunch. :-)

The truth has been documented many times, and when the treasonous horde is out of power, the lies will be a warning to all not to lose sight of the truth again, and the damage the lies can do.
It is not for us, this generation who witnessed it. It's for the future ones. We must made sure this untrue version does not persist.
Celeste, then, there must be consequences for the perpetrators of the event and the lying posts on a supposedly legitimate government website.
Be very careful about demanding OR expecting consequences.

And Trump never even acknowledged the Senator's murder at the time -- but he did lower the flag for the odious Charlie Kirk. Some priorities, eh?

Agreed on the speech issue. As for Machado...
According to the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jan/06/maria-corina-machado-vows-return-venezuela-rejects-rule-maduro-deputy-delcy-rodriguez
Once again Trump lashes out at being caught at a failed coup by trying to overwrite history.
I believe there is a fraud exemption to permissible free speech.
I have trouble understanding how the truth can be whitewashed like this. WE WATCHED IT - LIVE! The images haunt me now.
Time to arrest and jail this narco-cissistic terrorist.
And send him to Venezuela to stand trial for kidnapping and murder.
Or alternatively just hog-tie him and throw him in a boat off the Venezuela coast--Hogsbreath won't be able to tell the difference.

"Tonight, I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain."
- Liz Cheney, from her opening remarks on the Jan. 6 hearings, June 9, 2022
Words as true today as they were then.
