In response to his post, what he is smelling in the morning (and all day long) is not the deportations but the stench of his own self and his dirty diaper. Vile, smelly man.

I am in Chicago, and other than that I am purging and packing to move, it is a sunny fall day, and peaceful where I live. I was at the No Kings rally, and we were peaceful. Trump threatened to send National Guard here then, but he did not. I did not think he would because I could see things were not organized enough to do that. Even this is questionable in its organization. Great Lakes Naval Base is in a northern suburb, and it can take some time to get to Chicago, especially if there is traffic. That is to the city center.

"No Hate, No Fear, Immigrants are Welcome Here!" That is what we are chanting in Chicago. Signs say, "ICE out of CHI" My favorite might be,

"Donald Trump you Stupid clown, you're not welcome in our town!"

Meanwhile, events that put Mexican Immigrants in the public eye are being cancelled. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/sep/06/chicago-mexican-independence-day-trump?utm_term=68bd73d4f738410b9faf2de9a17f38f5&utm_campaign=GuardianTodayUS&utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&CMP=GTUS_email

Abby From Maine's avatar

It's at least 90% Miller's sick brain. IMO

Mary Greenwald's avatar

It might be Stephen Miller's "brain" behind Trump, but Trump is "All In" on anything depraved.

Stephen Brady's avatar

That is why it is so easy for Miller and the others to manipulate him. All they need to do is wind him up and point him.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Judy, you are right! On his own, Trump comes up with nothing but insults of people he thinks have dyssed him in some way, whines about what he is going to do, and fake compliments to people he wants to do things for him. The rest is being fed to him in person by his handlers, with stuff on teleprompters, or through an earpiece. trump's dementia is far enough advanced that he can't keep anything straight. He doesn't even remember people and he used to pride himself on his people skills; he has few or none now. He does still keep up his lying, though, claiming all sorts of things that are not true and firing anyone who does not go along with his lies. Crime rates and the jobs report are prominent now. There are a lot of folks in his sphere (I call it his toddler pool). Even Republican members of Congress are totally on board. We all are supposed to marvel when one of those Republicans makes an intelligent statement as the senator from Wyoming, a doctor did at RFK,Jr.'s hearing last week. He was right, but where was he when RFK,Jr. was being approved by the Senate? There are other doctors in Congress too, but where is their expertise? Trump and his MAFIA band have information on a bunch of people and has most likely threatened to release it or somethingg he made up, knowing the Trump-o-sphere will believe it. It is really sick!

Please discuss the violation of the Geneva Convention when Trump, Hegseth and all involved in the destruction of the boat from Venezuela, killing 11 persons. They are now murderers and war criminals and will be prosecuted in the future. When I was in the Army this was part of our training. Following orders is not a defense to an illegal order.

Thanks, Walt

Vijaya Venkatesan's avatar

They're not war criminals because the US hasn't declared war on Venezuela: they are out and out criminals. Killing 11 people in international waters 1200 kms away from the US for an allegation of a crime which is not a capital offence in the States just beggars belief. State-sponsored terrorism, no different from Russia taking down the Malaysian Air flight.

David Nixon's avatar

The military personnel who destroyed the vessel certainly have violated the law. That would include every person, military or civilian, in the chain-of-command who passed on the order to use deadly force.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

We had hope that, at least..our United States Military would stay strong ..but nope, they are apparently INFECTED, too. Truly sad to realize this. There are no Institutions left to save us.

Penni Livingston's avatar

We the people are the most powerful institution added to the institution of the family. We will grow and improve after we purge evil from high places and we will purge it! Our institutions are as strong as our commitment to having an effective fair government and a free society. They will bounce back. Have faith, stay aware, and take action.

Mary Greenwald's avatar

The military has always been infected with Trump mentality. Some Veterans are very much against Trump, but they are Veterans. They have seen actual war and know the senseless brutality is morally wrong. Trump and his chickenshit posturing is OK with military and civilian alike. They voted for Revenge and they are getting what they asked for.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

Sad to see this. And scary, too.

Mary DeWester's avatar

You are astute. Thank you for your rational observation.

David Nixon's avatar

You are correct. I was a Marine officer and this was heavily emphasized in our training.

Denise's avatar

So did the military obey an unlawful order in destroying the boat and killing 11 people? Sure sounds like it to me. I guess we know what a good deal of them will do to us. It’s mind-boggling.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

Well, how many did “fly-overs” to disrupt the women on the steps? The victims? Shows what the pilots thought of them.

Freddie Baudat's avatar

I get what you’re saying and Trump’s ordering the flyover was truly egregious, but I don’t think the pilots had a choice in this matter. It wasn’t illegal and it was purported to coincide with a visit from Poland’s head of state. It might have repulsed them to no end to have been duty bound to perform that flyover.

Happy Valley No More's avatar

Mind boggling and frightening as hell.

Cleo's avatar

The military has the expressed right to defy illegal orders. Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), service members have a duty to disobey unlawful orders, which are those that violate the Constitution, U.S. law, or international law, or that require the commission of a criminal act. In this case it would be an order to violate ethical or moral principles.

Reader/Writer's avatar

That very issue was heavily stressed when I was in the Navy 50 years ago (1974-1979, CTT2) I am a female, and though females were not in combat positions at that time, or even stationed aboard ships, it was anticipated that we would eventually go there, and “disobeying an unlawful order” was a very important obligation for every sailor.

Ted H.'s avatar

War Crime? No, no, no. Hogsbreath Hegseth said it was sunk in "Self Defense." High Explosive Drugs? Indeed, it is not a war crime; prosecute the sinking as murder! TRUMP and on down the chain. Murder. As an illegal military order that should not have been obeyed. "Hey, Seaman take off your gas mask and test the air?" Good grief; is that not or no longer taught to all military personnel? You may refuse an illegal order! It sure was emphasized repeatedly in 1954 in the U.S. Navy when I enlisted! Oh, I forget, norms have changed.

Mary Greenwald's avatar

Trump fired any General/Admiral who would disobey. In advance. Those left are in agreement - taking a bazooka to a pea-shooter contest.

Robot Bender's avatar

In self defense of what exactly? A speedboat against a destroyer? Gimme a break, Lt. Drunkard.

Nancy's avatar

I am wondering where the outcry from the international community is! I don't wonder why the national outcry is absent, but I am surprised that the international community isn't making headlines about this unsubstantiated murder in international waters.

Hanna Beck's avatar

This is also my question. I've heard the incident talked about a bit on msnbc, but am not hearing about anyone making Trump/Hegseth accountable for it. I don't understand why not.

Mary DeWester's avatar

In this present time I sometimes feel.discouraged because so much is being said and done that feels overwhelming and difficult to assimilate. Your reminder of the Geneva Convention was much appreciated. You helped flesh out what will be the eventual outcome for the actions we are now withstanding. Thank you.

Judy Riggenbach's avatar

Frankly im hoping it is declared a war crime and he a wanted international criminal! I will be very glad to see him delivered to the Hague for trial!!!

Nancy's avatar

Isn't this a reasonable assumption when a country's leader violates international law? He and Putin, together, international criminals.

Annie D Stratton's avatar

I have been looking (searching both media and using deep search engines) for a link to the video with Trump's voiceover, but have not found anything about this event but a few stills and Trump's assertion (over a still of the boat supposedly involved). Then even that went away. Can anyone provide a link of the video itself? Even though the Guardian has ascertained that the photos are not AI, I'm beginning to wonder if this event even happened, or if it is a pastiche of something else with Trump voiceover. Or did they just pull it when they realized what it might lead to legally? Anyone out there with a link to the video itself?

I was hoping that changing the name of the D.o.D. would give Congress a chance to set limits. The name change, though cloaked as a second name for the D.o.D., requires an act of Congress. Congress could disapprove of the Executive Order. This issue is high-profile but innocuous. 🤞🏼

Yet ill-Dootch-bag just acts out so quickly that it is hard to respond. Make the soldiers shoot at us?🤢

Ellen H's avatar

He cannot, that’s true. But it will not stop him from trying. That’s why I said we have a short window to stop him.

Joan's avatar

It seems more likely that he and his supporters will find ways to manipulate the outcome of the elections so they can claim they've won.

Also, when can we count on the Federal courts to stop him cold?

Laura Ouimet's avatar

The federal courts are ruling against him, for the most part. It’s the Supreme Court, unfortunately that we need to worry about.

lin•'s avatar

Yes. Lower court judges have publicly expressed their concerns about the Supreme Court - especially since Gorsuch and Kavanaugh publicly castigated the lower courts for their "bad behavior" in deciding against the GOP regime and "forcing" the Supremes to come to Trump's rescue. Again.

It is not only the Supreme Court. It is ChristoFascist legal scholars such as Adrian Vermeule and Trump apologists such as Jonathan Turley.

Usually I provide citations for what I write. My apologies that I cannot do it at this moment. But there is Google.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

Christo-Fascists are dangerous, indeed.

Vijaya Venkatesan's avatar

But, but, but, don't you remember the gross over-reach of Biden in forgiving student loans?!

lin•'s avatar

So ... your point?

Yes, presidents of both parties 'overreach' to take more power. And sometimes they win in court and sometimes they lose. It's supposed to be through a thorough judicial process in the Supreme Court - with oral arguments which are public and signed decisions which present the constitutional law and legal precedents for any decision. But the Roberts Court is using the Shadow Docket - with no oral arguments and no signed/reasoned decisions, with no public transparency - to give Trump what he wants and to establish the anti-constitutional 'unitary executive' ie kingship, which they want.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

What has ill-Dootch-bag ever done that has benefited American Citizens? The commoners?

Joanna's avatar

That was to help students who were in debt. This is to take over an American city -- to rule it.

Jenn Z's avatar

I am replying to the replies. The comment is sarcasm, clearly.

Vijaya Venkatesan's avatar

Oh, thank you! I realise people are distressed/ stressed by this administration and SCOTUS, but I didn't expect my comment not to be understood as sarcasm.

Vijaya Venkatesan's avatar

To be clear, the SCOTUS 6 have no problem rebuking a Democratic President for a benign attempt to mitigate the harshly burdensome situation of those with student loans while they contort themselves to enable Trump to drive a coach and horses, repeatedly through the Constitution.

Pam Birkenfeld's avatar

You see what people are saying below, does that not resonate with you? The difference between forgiving student loans and declaring war on an American city.

Laura Ouimet's avatar

I didn’t like that either, but that doesn’t excuse what’s going on these days.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

Nothing “Supreme” about this gang in black robes. Time to disband.

lin•'s avatar

The lower courts are doing an extraordinary job. Judges like Paula Xinis are on call 24/7 because of the Republican regime's midnight dirty tricks.

But what are you doing to push back against the Republican regime? Such as phoning members of your congressional delegation every day.

Tracy L Cooper's avatar

Which is why I said Federal, some are, some are protecting this unConstitutional thing.

My Congressional people are all Democrats, I'm supporting them to continue to defeat fascism.

What are you doing besides accusing others of doing nothing?

lin•'s avatar

I did not accuse any one of doing nothing. Each day, I write Letters to the Editor, phone and write my congressional delegation, and phone members of congressional committees. Several days a week I do individual protests in my tourist town - carrying posters which address specific issues. Once a week I do an in depth email on a specific issue, for my local Democratic committee, providing members with analysis and with quotes/citations they can use in their messaging. I also attend group protests. I am finishing up 200 postcards to voters. And am signed up to volunteer for Democratic candidates in two states. I am retired so I can do this pretty much full time. As a continuation of volunteering when I was working.

JK's avatar

Good work, but exactly what have the Democrats in Congress accomplished? Right now, my entire delegation is working together for the first time, not to fire RFK jr.--spawn of Satan--but to keep the so-called Space Force in CO. Really?

lin•'s avatar

Because too many people had too many excuses not to vote for Democratic candidates. And because right wing voters united to vote for Republicans, they have a trifecta majority - both legislative chambers and the executive. There is little the Democratic minority can do but put up a good fight and hope to win over enough Republicans to get a veto proof majority. But as I said, Republicans unite to take and keep power. That said, if you want to listen to Democrats at work then please google The Congressional Progressive Caucus, go to their websites, and also go to the CSpan archives. Fighting to keep institutional knowledge and a workforce with experience and expertise intact is worthwhile. Fighting to keep Federal jobs in Blue states is worthwhile.

As for RFKJR, he can be fired by the president, forced to resign by the Republican party including the president, or impeached. I have no doubt that Democrats would stand together to impeach RKFJR - go to CSpan and listen to their arguments against his appointment and criticism of his tenure, but again, Republicans unite to take and keep power.

Right wing voters united to become the reliable base of the Republican party and remake it in their image. There is a lesson here. Become the Democratic base by reliably voting and volunteering for Democratic candidates - and help reform the party.

If this had happened 60 years ago when I was in college I’d have been on my way to stand with the people of Chicago against this invasion. Where are the young people today? Now, like then, young people are doing their best to get educated, employed, and take care of their families in many cases. Congress can’t do anything, the Supreme Court can’t do anything, and we’re wringing our hands over why young people and retired people aren’t doing enough?

Pam Birkenfeld's avatar

It’s only retired people who seem to be doing anything, but I get your point. And part of the reason it looked like more people were doing things back then is that the media actually reported. Nobody’s reporting this in the mainstream media, and there probably are lots of young people, did you see the pictures of the crowds in New York and DC from yesterday in sub stack columns and foreign media! But you won’t see much of that in the mainstream media. You can get more information from Al Jazeera than the Washington Post

TS's avatar

My view is, in a corrupt organization, the only people allowed to join have to be more corrupt, and more stupid, than the ones already there, otherwise they're a threat to the status quo. The GOP became corrupt when they sold out completely to corporate interests (politicians have always been corrupt, but this was the party as a whole). Thus, they have been in a spiral where they become stupider and more corrupt every political generation (that's 2-4 years), and here we are, with Trump as the front man for the Red team.

Now, the Dems sold out to corporate interests not many years after (because the K-street money was killing them), so they're on their way to the same predicament as well.

We will get some semblance of our country back when we block corporate money, oligarch money, Israeli money, military-industrial money, from our elections. Publicly funded elections, with a limited period for campaigning. And how to do that, when these interests are entrenched?

And the totally corrupted American military has completely surrendered to the traitor. Don't keep expecting any of them to refuse illegal orders, because it isn't going to happen. When they decided to create an "all volunteer force" after the GI antiwar movement in Vietnam completely humiliated them 55 years ago, many of us - including antiwar service veterans like me - were against the idea because it held the very great possibility that what we now see has happened, would happen, that the military would be corrupted by a would-be dictator.

And as a veteran, can I ask you all to stop thanking these people for their "service," when their service is they will happily pull their triggers on you when the order comes from the Dick-tater, down through the worthless drunk, and then through their military academy leaders, whose institutions have done the following in the past 10 days:

The alumni association at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point has canceled an award ceremony for actor and veterans advocate Tom Hanks, citing a desire for the Army service academy to focus on preparing future officers for war after several political controversies involving the Trump administration shook the institution this year.

Hanks, 69, was to receive the prestigious Sylvanus Thayer Award, which recognizes an “outstanding citizen” who did not attend West Point and has a distinguished record of service that exemplifies the academy’s ideals: “Duty, Honor, Country.” A ceremony and parade were scheduled for Sept. 25.

Retired Army Col. Mark Bieger, president and chief executive officer of the West Point Association of Graduates, disclosed the decision in an email to faculty circulated Friday. He wrote that the alumni association, in coordination with the academy, “will not be holding the Thayer Award ceremony” as originally scheduled and apologized for the cancellation. The email did not say whether Hanks’s award has been revoked or if it will be presented in some other format. “This decision allows the Academy to continue its focus on its core mission of preparing cadets to lead, fight, and win as officers in the world’s most lethal force, the United States Army.” (Do you notice all the Kakistocracy II “lingo”?)

Here’s why this was shut down by the “Mini-Me’s” of Kakistocracy II:

Back in 2020, Hanks participated in a campaign fundraiser with Joe Biden, who went on to defeat Trumplethinskin that year in an election marred by Thinskin’s baseless claims of election fraud. Months later, after a pro-Trump mob of seditionists and traitors smashed its way into Congress on Jan. 6, 2021, in a failed attempt to stop the certification of Biden’s victory, Hanks hosted a televised event called “Celebrating America” that was organized by the Biden Inaugural Committee. Hanks noted then that the United States had seen “deep divisions and a troubling rancor” over recent years. Hanks assisted Biden again one year into his presidency, narrating a video touting the value of perseverance as the U.S. economy rallied and the covid-19 pandemic subsided. “We are stronger than we were a year ago today,” Hanks said then. We're weaker now.

And Friday a week ago, the Chair Farce Academy did this: Officials at the United States Air Force Academy cancelled an upcoming lecture by a Utah author and poet due to critical social media posts about President Donald Trump. Paisley Rekdal is the bi-racial author of “The Broken Country: On Trauma, a Crime, and the Continuing Legacy of Vietnam,” a book-length essay that explores the cultural legacies and intergenerational trauma of American veterans and Southeast Asian refugees of the Vietnam War.

Her talk at the Air Force Academy was to be an installment of the annual Jannetta Lecture Series, funded by Academy alumnus David Jannetta. According to the Academy's own website, "the Jannetta Lecture brings to the school respected writers and artists who have contributed to our understanding of war." Jannetta began funding the lecture series in 2008 and has done so annually since then. He was unavailable for an immediate comment, but expressed his displeasure to the Colorado Springs Gazette this past week, apologizing to Rekdal, and stating he plans to discuss any further contributions with the Academy's Association of Graduates.

A spokesperson for the Air Force Academy confirmed that Rekdal's past comments were what got her kicked out of the speaking engagement. “Upon further review of this year's invited speaker, the Academy determined some of her public comments were disparaging of the Commander-in-Chief. While we welcome and will continue to invite speakers who encourage vigorous debate on a variety of subjects, we have chosen not to move forward with this speaking engagement, consistent with the U.S. Air Force Academy's non-partisan obligation."

Damn. The military really folded like a cheap suit. He’s got everything - Congress, SCOTUS, and the damn MILITARY. And he’s becoming more of a threat every hour. I’m in L.A. and I am terrified for Chicago. Thank God Newsom and Pritzker are standing up to him. I wonder if he knows he doesn’t have a lot of time left because he’s acting like someone with nothing to lose and wants to destroy whatever he can while he can. A man will burn down a country just to stand on the ashes. Something like that. Dude wants an all out war.

It's interesting to me that red state governors (like Texas) are sending their Nat'l Guard to invade Chicago. Seems like there should be a law against that... something having to do with states' rights. Is trump paying for all this mobilization of state troops? 🤔 I hope Pritzker flattens all their tires at the border of Illinois!

Laws??? Shirley you jest, Shirley!!!

Losing the U.S. Military really is the end, isn’t it?

Outdoorluvr's avatar

I think we lost the military when we started sending troops across the world to fight for our government's interests, and "defense" became a profit scheme for weapons design/production and contractors.

It wouldn't surprise me if former tRump administration military figures such as Gens. Milley, Kelly, and Mattis haven't already met with senior colleagues still on active duty to discuss a "final solution to the tRump problem", before tRump's dictatorial impulses actually result in some sort of civil war. Getting closer with tRump's unsubtle threats directed toward the city of Chicago, and that tRump has already demonstrated that units of the military and NG in fact will obey his commands and make war on their fellow citizens.

"Seven Days in May" may not be too far off, or even a calculated "termination with extreme prejudice" act to cut off the head of the fascist snake squeezing our country.

Have not heard much of anything from ex-Presidents, have we? They give up, too, apparently. Other than Obama, of course. But, how about all of the others? Are they alive?

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

WHAT? THIS IS THE FIRST I HAVE HEARD ABOUT THIS! WEST POINT HAS SURRENDERED,TOO? I am shocked and saddened.

Reader/Writer's avatar

TC, thank you for this bit o’ history. I am very afraid.

Something Wicked This Way Comes…indeed.

Gov Newsom should require all passengers arriving in California airports to show proof of vaccinations before being allowed in the state.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

Vaccinations… no one with small children should live in Florida…or Texas, undoubtedly.

I first thought the threat was another TACO move. After firing on the "narco-terrorist" boat, anything is possible. The guy is unhinged, but we knew that going in.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

Normally…the COAST GUARD would be checking this boat out first….

Now the “rule of law” is defined by Trump’s whims—dictatorship this moment, vindictive prosecutions the next. The question is whether the Supreme Court will finally rule on the substance of his various unconstitutional acts. I suspect it will uphold—it has given Trump EVERY benefit of doubt, accepted his endless “emergencies” and allowed him to proceed with his questionable actions despite adjudication of the merits.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

There is no hope to be had from the “Supreme” Court. WHO actually runs this crew? The Heritage Foundation or the Federalist Society? Or something EVEN DARKER?

Reader/Writer's avatar

Much, much darker, someone, a lot of someones, with no moral compass whatsoever.

Marilyn Medlock's avatar

That would be Stephen Miller then

This SCOTUS is corrupt and is merely a political puppet for trump. The Roberts Court will go down in history as the worst since Taney. They are destroying America in collusion with the Republicans and the tech oligarchs.

David J. Sharp's avatar

Agreed. And I find Roberts’s demeanor particularly irksome—the patrician arrogance, the passive aggressiveness. “Justice is colorblind,” he states … while stripping the Voting Rights and Civil Rights Acts. “No man is above the law,” he states patronizingly … while giving Trump absolute immunity along with anything else he desires.

Joyce...can you bring a suit to remove his immunity? Please!!
