Substack Live with Barb McQuade at Noon ET on Wednesday
As the utter debacle of Trump’s slush fund scandal continues to unfold, there’s no one I’d rather talk with than my former US Attorney colleague and current #SistersInLaw podcast cohost, Barb McQuade. She’s promised to take a little time off from her book tour (The Fix is out today) so we can make sense out of what’s happening.
There are a lot of moving pieces to this scandal, including whether Trump’s “almost a pardon,” which exempts him and family members from payment of or consequences from unpaid taxes will stand, to whether Judge Kathleen Williams in the Northern District of Florida will reopen the now-dismissed underlying case, Trump v. IRS, that gave rise to all of this and consider imposing sanctions. If you’ve got questions for us, please drop them in the chat. We want to take on the questions that you’re most interested in discussing.
See you tomorrow, Wednesday, at noon.
We’re in this together,
Joyce

Is the tax immunity provision addendum actually part of the fund" Agreement," or are they separate?
When you and others discuss this, all I hear is "the fund" and not "the fund AND tax immunity provision." It seems almost as an afterthought, though I feel it is actually the main goal of this whole injustice. I feel this is critical as too many folks indicate their lack of understanding of the tax immunity implications. Simply mentioning the fund and tax addendum together will do a great service to all.
Will the Court be able to address both the fund and tax provision together? Or will they have to be separated? Denying Jan 6 protesters money is one thing. Holding Trump and Blanche accountable for a separate fraud - and I'm sure illegal action - is another. Ultimately, Trump could care less if his supporters got money or not. That's his character. Getting away with tax fraud is his only concern, in my humble opinion.
Do you agree that there is vague language in the immunizing "settlement" by DOJ that conceivably extends to a virtual pardon for any/all Epstein-related charges? Or is it limited to financial matters and tax audits exclusively?
