We are becoming more and more like Nazi Germany every day.

David J. Sharp's avatar

Or East Germany—handler Vlad’s old stomping grounds.

Lady Emsworth's avatar

Only thing I know to be grateful to Hitler for - at least he gave us a heads up on what to look out for, and the danger we're running in to.

Howardsp's avatar

Except that the powers that be have learned from the Nazis’ mistakes.

Dale of Green Gables's avatar

Seems to me the so-called administration is stumbling along in their footsteps. The Nazis were not generally competent in the civilian arena due to a chaotic leadership style, infighting, and the prioritization of ideological goals (such as rearmament and racial policy) over sound economic and civil administration. While some early programs created a perception of efficiency and improvement in the short term, they were often unsustainable or had significant drawbacks for the civilian population. What they were efficient at was murder.

Jen Andrews's avatar

Not just a chaotic style, but they're all incompetent. They waltz in and start wrecking everything, because they are stupid and don't realize they have an interlocking complex system that balances on everything else.

They are stupid.

PeachBlossom's avatar

I disagree. I think they fully know what they are doing and are determined to bring about the total destruction of that "interlocking complex system."

George T's avatar

So true. The plan for the total destruction; It’s all in the Project 2025 playbook. We too often forget about the playbook behind all the BS. Everything happening in our country, all of it is laid out in the 900+ pages of Project 2025.

Potter's avatar

A plan? Yeah so? They are incompetents demonstrably.

Potter's avatar

They may fully know and be determined but that does not mean they will or even can UNLESS we go along and comply. We do not.

Richard Johnson's avatar

If a Nazi is hired to run the country, then what can you expect?

Ned McDoodle's avatar

Though an apologist of the French monarchy, Edmund Burke demonstrated that even it was not this bad.

James A's avatar

CALLING BULLSHIT. What a disgusting post. 6 Million Jews were murdered.

Time for new material. Democrats called:

Reagan was Hitler

Bush was Hitler

HW Bush was Hitler

McCain was Hitler

Romney was Hitler

Trump is Hitler.

WHo do you think you are FOOLING?

Cynthia Kruger (HI) 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️'s avatar

Perhaps it is because too many have forgotten their history and still fail to see the light and very real danger we are all in!

Richard Johnson's avatar

Forgot that history? What about American enslavement history? It seems always to not make the cut for fear it might overtake other times of moral deprivity?! White supremacy is America.

Cynthia Kruger (HI) 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️'s avatar

You misunderstand . . . I've encountered far too many people in all walks of life who are completely ignorant of such things. It is as if they were never taught any of that or they have sleepwalked through our sordid past.

The Bovino case in Chicago is yet another classic example of the too often disconnect between the "law" (according to the Seventh Circuit, the separation of powers) and real life. Those usually in the know believe we should get a permanent injunction on the deployment of Guard troops to Portland from US District Court for the District of Oregon Judge Immergut on Friday (7). This would continue to block the deployment of the Oregon National Guard as well as Guard troops from Texas and California. In issuing her preliminary injunction she noted that the federal government likely lacked the legal justification for the deployment and that it may have infringed on Oregon's sovereignty. The en banc or full court hearing in re: Oregon v. Trump ordered by the Ninth Circuit is still pending.

David J. Sharp's avatar

Apparently some appellate courts - including SCOTUS - choose to focus on procedure and rules than substance. Bad sign.

PeachBlossom's avatar

Any pretzel logic they can come up with.

Cyndi's avatar

Anything they can invent in their cowardice.

CathyP's avatar

Is Bovino as small as he looks next to the guys he's walking with? "Napoleon complex" comes to mind....

Ha! I thought the same thing. Little man trying to act tough. Hell, I’m a 58 year old woman and I could take him. He’s like a miniature wanna be soldier.

Isnt Steven Miller on the shorter side, too? Complex is right!

Deb Pierce McCabe's avatar

Dang. I miss Obama. We must prevail. Thank you, Joyce, there is a bit of humor in here too. And thank you, everyone who is stepping up to help neighbors.

Cissna, Ken's avatar

And miss Biden too. We had competent, no-drama presidents not so long ago. Not perfect either of them, but they respected the Constitution and rule of law and had the welfare of the American people as their top priority.

John Gregory's avatar

well, if Trump figures out a way to run for a third term in 2028 (his brain trust run by Steve Bannon has some ideas, apparently), then Obama should be able to run against him. That would drive Trump even crazier (though as the old line has it, 'that's not a drive, it's a putt.')

Obama, however, being of sound mind, would not want the job again...

Gordon Berry's avatar

I said it too - but how about Michelle - that would really blow Trump's mind!

Maggie's avatar

I think she wouldnt be at all interested - remember the idiotic crap thrown at her?

Stefanik's "allies" put an ad out showing the Obamas as apes! The NY governor election is going to be nasty!

George T's avatar

“IF” Trump figures out a way to run for a third term in 2028

There’s no figuring out to be done! Accept the fact he’s going to do it if in fact he even needs to run!

“In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote." -Trump in July 2024

WOW that would be great !!!

Will you come to DC Nov 18?

I keep posting. According to Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) Trumpepstein may cause an "Epstein bomb" causing over 100 Republican members to "jailbreak" from Trump.

Massive Congressional visits November 18.

I continue to be exasperated by the parties and lawyers with cases when justices and judges who have dispositive records of bribery and prejudice are not challenged. At SCOTUS, Roberts opened the door in November, 2023. https://www.supremecourt.gov/about/Code-of-Conduct-for-Justices_November_13_2023.pdf

Gordon Berry's avatar

If Trump runs again in 2028, then so can Obama (or Michelle)!

Susan Stone's avatar

Michele wouldn't be running for a third term, but she has said many times that she has no interest in running for president, even though many of us would easily choose to vote for her.

Fred Krasner's avatar

Yes, many of us would easily choose her, but we are not the voters who decide elections. 10 Million Biden voters declined to support a very well qualified woman with lots of relevant experience. Sad.

Susan Stone's avatar

I get that. I am very sad that Kamala was rejected for being female and Black/Asian. It's sad that our country goes for the superficial qualities they perceive (whether real or not), instead of going for true quality and experience.

LaurieOregon's avatar

Bovino looks and acts like a pathetic man-child. At our protests on the highway through our small town, we get occasional enraged cursing, name-calling, and even the black smoke exhaust, from Trumpers driving by, most frequently from men in their 20's.

If only they knew that we're not frightened by them. Instead, we end up worrying about how they function at work and home, how they got so consumed with hate, how unready they are for the real impacts of this regime. I even feel compassion for them at times.

Bovino is worse. He reminds me of what my dad called "Nazi ribbon clerks." People with mediocre abilities who finally got to have power over other people as Nazi soldiers and SS troops.

Chris Hierholzer's avatar

Sounds a bit like Steven Miller.

Jen Andrews's avatar

You got coal-rolled. I suspect you know that's what it's called but many don't. So you described it.

It's actually an illegal exhaust and engine modification and idk if truck shops will do it. Probably

Fred Krasner's avatar

Uncombusted diesel fuel will produce black smoke. You will see it come out of the exhaust stacks of eighteen wheelers when they shift gears (the engine is temporarily not under a load).

your book came! I'm so excited! I sprung for a signed one, just because! My daughter was duly impressed--I intend for us to read it together.

When I first saw the title of it, however many months ago that was, I thought it was a little ... harsh. But omg you were exactly right. Giving up is, truly, unforgivable.

I've been watching movies about the French Resistance to keep myself aware that this war we're in is important, terrifying, and uncertain. The only two things that are certain, as far as I can tell, are, first, that the man who currently claims the title of our President will continue to lie and seek vengeance, and second, that if we stop fighting, our beautiful aspirational country is dead.

Giving up is unforgivable. Truly. Thanks, Joyce for guidance, expertise, love, and chickens.

Louise Fecher's avatar

I got a signed copy as well. I’m knee-deep in a very detailed book about Harriet Tubman, but Joyce is up next.

I'll be casting my votes at St. Francis Episcopal Church on Rock Prairie Road in College Station, TX about 10am. Come join me!! Let's take back our country from these goobers. Oh, and I KNOW why trump picks the folks he does to run agencies. He's too damned scared to put anyone who knows what they're doing in place. He wants them all to be stupid, so they don't smarten up & fight trump on his outlandish decisions. This is the only way he can control things. Fight! I yield back my time.

Jay Jay Eh's avatar

Trump’s 1st term Press Secretary, Stephanie Grisham, said the reason why she stayed on with him (a d then Melania) was because she felt insecure & unqualified … hence extra ‘grateful’ to be there at all — she finally saw the light & quit.

BetsieD's avatar

Received mine as well!

John Gregory's avatar

and so they won't vote to implement the 25th Amendment (they don't want Vance president any more than anyone else...)

William (Bill) McGuire's avatar

IF Vance became President, he'd be almost as unqualified as trump because he's a dumbass. He's controlled by Peter Thiel who paid for his Senate run, the guy who told trump to name him his VP. trump can't stand Vance, but he'd be a shit at the job, too.

The power is in the vote.

March, resist, protest register to vote and vote in all elections.

Never, ever vote for a greedy, cruel and violent republican.

Then, when the people are in office and in power, we can revert back to a nation of laws and throw the rule of kings and elites out.

If you sit at home and allow these barbarians to dominate you, you deserve to be a serf to the petty tyrants.

I've watched President Obama's speech at Spanberger's rally twice, to counteract the effect of thirty seconds of the lies spewed in Nora O'Donnell's interview. Amazing how listening to a sane, coherent speaker of the English language can be so therapeutic.

There has been for far too long too many people in US law enforcement agencies, ranging from police forces to agencies like ICE and the CBP, who are spending too much time cosplaying the roles they really want to do instead of the jobs they're being paid to do. That's why there are so many of them in knock-off military gear.

They want power over others to compensate for their own feelings of inadequacy.

Russell John Netto's avatar

Those kinds of jobs tend to attract people who with dictatorial tendencies. That's why they're supposed to be trained.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKJprZqU_oU

Brian Klaas's book 'Corruptible' deals with the corrupting influence of power and specifically compares a typical US police force with one in New Zealand and the anaylsis is both masterly and insightful as to why you have these problesm with your enforcement agencies.

Suzy Stephens's avatar

Well, you know the old saying: "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Of course this applies to Trump now, but I imagine these types of enforcers like to imagine they have absolute power as well (Derek Chauvin comes mind).

Russell John Netto's avatar

I know the saying but I imagine that the feeling of empowerment is very similar in both cases and in each case inflicting harm or humiliation on others adds to the intensity of that feeling. In both cases it's a question of overweening superiority that alleviates a deeper, carefully hidden anxiety about one's own inadequacy (as PeachBlossom has commented earlier). I don't know much about Chauvin except that his encounter with George Floyd was not his first rodeo, but in Trump's case his insufferable boastful behaviour is a clear sign of his underlying sense of inadequacy. No one who is really intelligent needs to go on and on not just about how intelligent they are ('I'm a very stable genius') but how much more intelligent they are than their opponents. These days, Trump can hardly get through a speech or an interview without reciting his accomplishments, real or imagined.

Do we have a bottom line from the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals or will they wait until Judge Ellis’s preliminary injunction hearing on Wednesday to see what she is able to reveal about the “bad guys”?

The Gatsby-themed party is a perfect example of the utter obliviousness and carelessness of Le Roi Ubu. He and his clique really DON'T care about anything other than their own wealth, power, and pleasure. Laws simply do not matter to them because they do not apply to them. Who cares if they hold a lavish party when American families face hunger due to government malfeasance? They will never be held to account. They bought themselves a country and can do whatever they want. Any loser or sucker who complains is just jealous.

KMD's avatar

Dems should start selling "Obama 2028" t-shirts! It would drive Trump crazy.

Debbie Boerger's avatar

No, It would drive some nutjob to kill him!! It is exceptionally courageous for Obama to be out and about, calling out what he sees as wrong.

John Gregory's avatar

as I said in another comment (but you set it up so nicely...), that's not a drive, it's a putt.
