But for all the loud Trumpian protestations - along with their unstated TACO - I just wish these taunting Republicans would simply make plain they intend to return America to the White Supremacy Fifties they adore … and misremember. Say it out loud: Segregation now; segregation forever. Oh? I thought so.
It is definitely a huge factor. Tonight on Stephanie Ruhl’s show, she asked Mr. Dowd what Trump’s reason was for getting rid of immigrants. They weren’t taking American jobs. What is the reason? They’re simply not white. AND HATE-FILLED STEPHEN MILLER BUZZING IN HIS EARS NON-STOP.
Because apparently they are all criminals hiding here and freeloading off our taxpayers, right? It is a narrative that has frightened and united people to get behind this horrid administration, so why not continue to fan those flames?
yep. Freeloading by being at Home Depot either to look for work or at the store buying the stuff one needs to DO work. It's not like they were all hanging around Victoria's Secret getting their kicks at the displays while lazing about.

I hate to be the dog here they barks the same “rough… rough… rough…” but I used to suggest that given the alternative, having the once good generals temporarily take over our government in order to save it from the authoritarians and I was universally castigated for such a thought.
I knew what was about to happen. And it’s happening and in 3 years and months, there will be nothing remaining of democracy as we have known it. I would have taken my chances with the General Millys that were or are in office. The very secretary of defense is a facist what could go wrong — right? There were no good choices but a group of generals that still believed in the real constitution I would have taken my chances.
A side note: I think one could give pause that a constitution gives little protection to authoritarianism when especially the judiciary is compromised. Guess what? It’s compromised. It’s over, rover. Rough rough rough. Sorry if I sound so cynical.
Well, I may still not agree with your general's option; the point is I still don't see any adults in the room trying to offer a better option. OK Democrats, you got rid of Trump. Wonderful. Who do you want to fill his chair and actually unite Americans and put an end to this incessant tribalism?
Jim, the democrats did offer a better option last November. But, OMG, it was a WOMAN! And a WOMAN OF COLOR! And the suggested VP had already fatally compromised himself by offering free meals to public school children. Heinous! Absolutely irredeemable. And the wise American people rejected them. /s
While the level of concern is obviously valid I can't get past the fact that so many of us warned for months, even years that a second Trump term would lead us exactly here. This is all to be expected and, while much of the fault lies with one political party completely abdicating their responsibilities as a co-governing body, the balance lies at the feet of an apathetic and indifferent electorate who ASSUMED that the freedoms they enjoyed were guaranteed and didn't need to be nurtured. It's only a matter of time before Trump issues a truly gruesome order to our fighting forces and while we can HOPE that they do not comply I'd suggest we all prepare ourselves accordingly for what would come next.
I'm not afraid to say it out loud. I wish General Milley - with the aid of members of the armed forces who I'm sure are as disgusted as us civilians - could do something.
But you were watching MSNBC. The "mainstream" media is represented more by ABC - which just disavowed Terry Moran's statements that this is a situation being driven by Steven Miller's and Donald Trump's true, everyday personal fuel-source: Hate!
It's even worse than segregation. It's subjugation and extirpation. The fascists want a white-only country, preferably one in which all the whites are fundamentalist evangelical Christians. Yeah, I know, Miller comes from a Jewish family (which has renounced and disowned him). See the entry under "Vought, Russell."
I'm hoping tha there are Califorinia Congressional Republicans -- 9 of them-- that know the rationale for this -- danger of invasion by a foreign nation; there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the government of the United States -- is BS and will step forward.
Right on, Daniel! As I read the article, I was struck by the fact that we've seemingly systematically completely zoned out that there's a whole co-equal body of government letting this assault on democracy just slide on by. Disgraceful!
I would hope Congressional Republicans from any and all States find their spine (finally!) in this Rubicon-crossing moment--but I'm way beyond expecting it to happen.
Trump looks nutsy koo koo and needs to be evaluated for involutary civil commitment. A discussion of his mental state should be the predicate for every tactical policy decision he's been making.
If I went back to the kitchen, I would definitely kill my husband with my cooking. The June Cleaver and Donna Reed days are over. (Playing in my mind "Dog Days Are Over" by English rock band Florence and the Machine.)
Thanks Lee Anne! This actually made me laugh out loud for at least 10 seconds today - a real "day-brightener" as my Norwegian Lutheran mother-in-law used to say! And I am laughing again as I reread this!!! Sending sisters-in-the-struggle vibes to you, my friend!
The best place I've ever lived (where I am now) is about 85% Hispanic heritage people. The idea of going back to the 50s and segregation, etc. is both scary and sickening.
Because that eliminates the plausible deniability for the people who want to preserve their white privilege but don't want to admit that's what it is, and they want to tuck their heads in like ostriches and pretend that if they keep them down everything will be fine

It has been argued that the Nazi obsession with racial purity lead them to diverting material resources and man power to the Final Solution. This unforced strategic error might have lost them the war.

I am a retired union pilot who used to represent pilots first under the Veteran Reemployment Rights Act (VRR) and then USERRA: Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. I am NOT an attorney but worked with labor side lawyers. I am also retired from the Air National Guard.
There is an economic downside to Trump activating 4,000 CA National Guard troops. I would estimate that 90% of those activated gave their employers short notice that they were not coming into work. Many are taking pay cuts, some significant, while being separated from their families.
USERRA was passed by Congress in 1994 to replace and strengthen VRR. Employers quickly figure out that having an employee who is in the Guard is expensive. USERRA case law demonstrates this tension. These activations will generate USERRA cases.
When you are in a Guard unit, you are mentally prepared for national emergencies like 9/11. Frivolous activations will hurt retention and impact our national security going forward. The SF Chronicle pictures of soldiers sleeping on the floor of a loading dock in LA are a perfect example of what causes retention issues.
If Trump activates Guard units across our country the economic impact will be significant and our future readiness will suffer.
Thank you for sharing, Jason. The current administration is far too impulsive to rationally think these things through. Another reason hiring Fox anchors will turn out to be a total disaster.
All of this is nice to know but it isn't going to change anything. The issue remains that no one seems able to stop any of this. Where is Obama? (Oh, yes, in Europe.) Where is Clinton? Where is Kamala Harris or anyone? Why can't they all get together and hold a press conference saying that we are in a constitutional crisis? Why can't they say that all of this has been planned for decades by the religious right and the groups involved with the Heritage Society, the Federalist society, the christian nationalists, and the hundreds of other groups who have banded together to weaken Congress, and the SCOTUS and strengthen the President? It's not an accident, but the plans in Project 2025 are barely mentioned, and they are clear and detailed. Miller, and the rest of his "advisors" tell Trump what to do and he does it. Since he doesn't read and doesn't want to work, he has delegated everything to others and they, in turn, flatter him until he issues various edicts. The man is dangerous because all the people in his administration were vetted by the Heritage Society to pledge fidelity to Trump (i.e. them) or they wouldn't have been suggested as candidates. I don't see anyone telling the public about all this. I don't see the issue coming to light in any public place. These people have only just begun. It will get worse, much worse, before it gets better (if it ever does) because it is part of their plan to kill democracy and create a theocratic republic. Once Trump does all he has been guided to do, he will "get sick" and disappear so Vance can take over. Expect the 2026 elections to be thwarted. Yes, this sounds crazy, but what could be any crazier than what you wrote about today, this week, the last few weeks? Fellini couldn't have done a better job. Please, Joyce, investigate as deep down as you can go. Every day we watch our beloved country be attacked from the inside with almost no one able to stop the damage, millions of us weep.
I was just thinking today about the deafening silence from business and democrats. Thank you for putting this point into words. 2026 is a year and a half away, but now is the time for each of us to decide how far to charge into the ranks of the common enemy in post election day 2026.
The "deafening silence" is business response to kleptocracy; democrats silence is about their leaders of 46 did not strike when the iron was hot for four years after J621.
It wasn't easy, or even possible, for the leaders of 46 to "strike" because the iron included Joe Mancin and Kristen Synema, two flaky Democrats more concerned with their self interest than the nation's; plus the filibuster rules and the apparent impossibility of modifying it in a way that would both protect the right to a robust debate and the right to bring issues favored by the majority to a floor vote.
Apparently there are dozens of Executive Orders at the ready - to be pulled out at a moment's notice and handed to the Orange Turd so he can sign his bigly signature with his bigly sharpie. I agree -- others are pulling the strings -- as long as Trump has the limelight and believes he has the power he will go along.
And those exquisite leather binders usually have post-it notes on top so he has a clue as to WTF he's doing. And some bozo is usually standing over him telling what the order is. 🤬
You are correct, corporate news and most big rich CEO's of companies, are all cowards. They are afraid to say anything against their "leader" They are the ones pushing for the big tax cuts but cowards to show how much money they give to the republicans that do their bidding. A bunch of cowards.
We The People are on our own. I believe we must let history be our guide. Those who forget the past damn the present. Erath belongs to the living generation.
It would not matter if 'they' did (try to) tell 'the public' about it all. Talk is cheap. Trump proves that. Talk is also the only thing that matters once the baddies take over. No one with any influence in this country ever adequately established nor prepared for the zone-flooding takedown of law, the easy-peasy power grab, nor the corporatization of every lever of power. No one.
When good, functioning, thoughtful people refuse to wield power, then bad, very bad, execrable people will find the way. All the wayfinding has long been done. Implementation is underway, and the power levers are all now firmly in grasp of the worst people alive.
My thoughts exactly. Where is everyone who should be railing against TRump and his Clown Car Cabinet?! Frankly, it's horrifying and infuriating to watch what's happening and not being able to do anything about it. I'm scared!
Use/share this spreadsheet as a resource to call/email/write members of Congress, the Cabinet and news organizations. Reach out to your own reps, as well as those in other states on a specific committee important to a topic you’re sharing. Use your voice and make some “good trouble.”
You got that right. Jake Auchincloss, Bill Keating, Steven Lynch, Seth Moulton, Richard Neal from MA will be on my list - I don't particularly take to Gestapo supporters. And I'm grateful (and not surprised) that my rep, Jim McGovern, was not on that list. He's usually shown that he's smarter than the rest of our congress critters. The real surprises are Swalwell and Vindman.
There's a whole Marine law enforcement battalion at Camp Pendleton if Demento was so concerned about maintaining law and order. Sending in untrained combat troops is just more bad dinner theater for a flailing and failing pretend president. He tarnishes everything he touches and has once again insulted and demeaned those who serve.
Sending in Marines, trained or untrained, was a criminal offense. Following the order to deploy was in violation of the UCMJ: all lawful orders must be followed; unlawful orders must be ignored or disobeyed. Shame on the officers of the Marine detachment who did not have the courage to stand up against the criminal in the Oval Office. And I have an even lower opinion of the sot running the Department of Defense.
Abhorrent but not yet technically criminal. Demeaning but not technically in violation of the UCMJ. As CIC, Demento has the limited authority to send in active military troops to protect federal facilities and personnel --- even when they obviously don't need protection. He (and they) cross the line if he wrongly invokes the Insurrection Act or claims a non existent rebellion which allows them to engage in law enforcement. As I said, so far, political theater and yet another insult to those who serve.
In typical fashion, he uses loaded words like insurrection and rebellion when he spews his daily garbage but has not yet officially declared a rebellion or an insurrection and won't (IMO) because it would mean the point of no return for him. He's testing and probing now.
SCOTUS has given Trump immunity; thus, the law will become less and less relevant over time. Only revoking his immunity will keep the law relevant and an effective tool to defend democracy.
SCOTUS has paved the way for all that is happening now.....
As good as he was on so many issues, Covid, the Economy, his administration failed us in bringing justice to the instigators of Jan 6, if they had none of what we are witnessing would be happening today. Tepid administration of justice is what we were given, so all of the bastards that had been seeking pardons
All of a piece with what's been happening - but nevertheless feels like an escalation, and an unbelievably scary one too. May thousands and thousands exercise their legal right to free speech and support the Constitution and rule of law on June 14th.
Honestly, Joyce, your calm wisdom and knowledge leave peace and renewed hope. I have already called Senator Lankford’s office ( my state senior Senator). Markwayne Mullin’s sent out his enthusiastic support for the BUG ( Big Ugly Bill) and Trump’s acts in California. I had left a message with someone in his office; he sent a text telling me where he stood. It is very difficult to live in a state where the House Representatives and Senators do not care for the people of their state.
But, again, I always look forward to your writings. I WILL crawl out of bed early for NO KING’S DAY and protest peacefully to the best of my ability.
Newsom's reply tweets to the MAGA crowd were calm and pointed and even funny. When the pugnacious and attention-loving Jim Jordan tweeted that 'in this country we carry the American flag' (in response to the protestors waving Mexican flags), Newsom responded with a picture of a Jan 6 rioter beating a cop with an American Flag, and the words "like this, Jim"
When the beige "oh so Christian" Mike Johnson tweeted that Newsom should be tarred and feathered, Newsom replied that he saw Johnson was jumping right to punishments out of the 1700s, which made sense since the GOP was trying to return America to the 18th century.
On some forum I was watching last week, it may have been Charlie Sykes' sub, the guest said the best way to determine if you are living under an authoritarian regime is to pay attention to if and how often you find you are telling yourself you're ok. That they won't come after me, yet. People don't do that in normally-governed states. My fascist radar says we've now reached that suburb of Hell.
I like "J621", but my representatives in Congress need put it in context AND the press need to publish it. Once it is in context, then every time it appears it is a threat to finish the job with a charge of inciting a riot at least and giving 45 his day in court. We need to hear his side of the story.
They are here already in tiny towns. I used to live in this area and we KNOW somebody had to have called to report these workers. It should terrify everyone. Santa Rosa County Democrats

All my thoughts go to the emergency applications to the SCOTUS.
The lower courts hold the line, the case proceeds, SCOTUS gets the app, pulls from the KBJ analogy of being like firefighters, give him a hose and boom, remands with Trump allowed to Trump because, well, deference.
Deference my arse. They wanted it in Garcia after the DOJ admitted they erred. No deference. Plus, isn’t deference considerably lower in domestic policy?
Immigration is domestic policy, correct?
The migrants, he’s directly or indirectly, hired in maintenance, construction, service work, for the Trump Org., has been done, through American owned businesses, for decades, but it is cool if he needs them. With or without visas.
Novel is scary for the Robert’s court. Very scary territory that they are paying a dear price for.
Trump’s deference should be earned when he diligently seeks to comply within the framework of judicial deference because that deference is built on the expertise of the branches and their representatives or confirmed appointees.
Judicial deference is not absolute and requires expertise on matters that, those in this admin, clearly lack.
I’m skeptical to believe errors get deference, a ketamine addict getting our SSA information while not requiring the information requested for the FOIA, and overall understanding that this administration they took an overreach on the UET wasn’t smart, is failing their Oaths and stop Alito-ing cases. That is defined as give Trump the temp victory lap until the lower courts fix whatever lurks in 6 of the 9 justices bubble of living in normal times. This is anything but normal. Deference is then a new novelty!! Perhaps a sharper focal point on the execution of the laws, faithfully, and with knowledge of all matters pre, post and during execution so as to be a measure of said expertise.
This is unfortunate a power keg. All that needs to happen in the streets of LA is for one peaceful demonstrator to become slightly rowdy, a National Guard member to be trigger happy with non-lethal bullets (what an oxymoron) then what will happen. Vandalism and blocking highways is not in my opinion a peaceful demonstration. Maybe all the demonstrators should go home for now and then come out in full force to peacefully demonstrate during “the big beautiful celebration”.
If those Guard troops are given live rounds, the rules of engagement for riot control are being violated. Even the Marines would not have live rounds, unless the DoD's own manual has been rewritten to allow use of lethal force against protesting civilians. Not to say it couldn't happen: remember Kent State and its sanctioned murder.
Trump has violaters planted to create chaos. The guy waving a Mexican flag on top of the burning vehicle is planted. Compare him to others... he ain't one of them
Incisive … as usual.

Frightening.
Time to revisit “Judgment in Nuremberg” — the Nazi lawyer astutely pointed out that the Eugenics theory of superiority came to Germany from US.
And is in trump's cabinet today.
In a warm room … safely isolated from all reason and humanity.
👏👏👏🇺🇸
Are the "White Supremacy Fifties" the 1950s or the 1850s? Maybe it's both/and.
More Fifties — MAGA can’t be bothered with frock coats and stocks.
Segregation - and embracing 1930's German solution to ridding the country of "useless eaters." They don't want to just return to white supremacy - they want to get rid of our Constitutional Republic and representative democracy.
And listening to RFK Jr., one suspects that the MAGA and Project 2025 (heya, Russ!) unspoken magic word is, “Eugenics!”
Yes, hence my reference to "useless eaters." That is absolutely the goal.
And let’s not forget Junior’s suggestion that Jews and Chinese were resistant to Covid … hence the disease’s perpetrators.
Segregation today, anyone who opposes them tomorrow…..
Indeed! Well put. And perhaps the one truth Project 2025 won’t say out loud. (But I guess it doesn’t have to.)

That bozo is Will Scharf who ran for AG in Missouri.
Newsom spoke very Forcefully tonight but of course in Pacific Time & not on the MSM just Youtube. X & Facebook.
Many of our younger folks view YouTube and not the legacy media news.
Meidas has more viewers than Fox "News" and corporate news would not have let him speak to the nation in prime time!
Hi Awesomely Written!! I have witnessed the same
Situation, with family & Friends! They call it Crap &
Don’t want anything else
Shared!! At first i was disappointed And Saddened! I realize you can
Bring a horse to water, But
You can’t make them drink!!
I had written a response earlier about all this! In my
Tired mind I erased it all!
To tired to remember all that I had written!! I appreciate all that you have
Shared !! I hope the courts
Come through and stop
This madness before it can’t be fixed!! ✨
My thoughts exactly. Where is everyone who should be railing against TRump and his Clown Car Cabinet?! Frankly, it's horrifying and infuriating to watch what's happening and not being able to do anything about it. I'm scared!
Call. Write. Email. Protest peacefully. Unrelentingly.
Use/share this spreadsheet as a resource to call/email/write members of Congress, the Cabinet and news organizations. Reach out to your own reps, as well as those in other states on a specific committee important to a topic you’re sharing. Use your voice and make some “good trouble.”

Especially given that 75 Democrats (receiving AIPAC money) joined with Republicans to vote for a "gratitude to ICE" resolution

I know
And yes, I believe there will be some serious disappointments on that list - for everyone
Are you fkg kidding me, they really signed on to that group of cowards?
I have a permanent site open on my computer that lets me check/track AIPAC money. It’s horrific.
What the hell are they taking AIPAC money for Gratitude to ICE bill? Im horrified.
Yes it is. Corruption is deep in both parties
Let alone cutting USAID, Medicaid and SNAP to fund this deployment and the parade without compunction or shame....
Point taken. Has he not already claimed a rebellion? If not, it won't be long...
I also blame the timid 46th president.
As good as he was on so many issues, Covid, the Economy, his administration failed us in bringing justice to the instigators of Jan 6, if they had none of what we are witnessing would be happening today. Tepid administration of justice is what we were given, so all of the bastards that had been seeking pardons
Are now helping run the government into the ground.
You send the Marines to take Iwo Jima, not Los Angeles.
All of a piece with what's been happening - but nevertheless feels like an escalation, and an unbelievably scary one too. May thousands and thousands exercise their legal right to free speech and support the Constitution and rule of law on June 14th.
There have been some posts that these troops-sleeping-on-floor photos are actually from Afghanistan during Biden's administration, but that seems to be false: snopes.com/fact-check/la-protests-soldiers-sleeping-on-floor/
thanks. Some of the early posted pictures of "things in flames" turned out to be from 2020.
Some of the photos and montages that have been posted have come from video games... not reality. To be expected from MAGA.
And none of it matters because the meme is the truth. The Word Is Good. The Words Make Them Feel All Warm And Fuzzy And Rage-embracing.
Reality is not taking a vacation; reality retired.
😓😓😓
It’s false!
We are there and the people need a symbol to keep in 47's face.
Good idea. What would you suggest?
I like "J621", but my representatives in Congress need put it in context AND the press need to publish it. Once it is in context, then every time it appears it is a threat to finish the job with a charge of inciting a riot at least and giving 45 his day in court. We need to hear his side of the story.
What is the 21 for?
2021, right?
yes,
They are here already in tiny towns. I used to live in this area and we KNOW somebody had to have called to report these workers. It should terrify everyone. Santa Rosa County Democrats
MAGA Trumpers Raid Gulf Breeze
#ICE Raid in Gulf Breeze at D.R. Horton Homes site
Oh, you know there will be plenty of "patriotic citizens just doing their part to make America safe again."
Just moved from that frying pan to the fire in Texas. Abbott was spouting his fascist opinion tonight on the news.
This PINO has never played by the rules, and he never will. We are in for a rough ride, but we will prevail. Stay strong, everyone!!!!
Then there is the man whose playbook is being followed-Stephan Miller.
Don’t forget Russell Vought the puppet master!
Thanks Joyce!

Non-rowdy demonstrators have already been deeply wounded by non-lethal weapons.
Trump has violaters planted to create chaos. The guy waving a Mexican flag on top of the burning vehicle is planted. Compare him to others... he ain't one of them
