He's been conning people, lying, and enriching himself, for the past 60 years, and has never been seriously punished for it, so of course he is confident he can continue to get away with it. (Especially since his Supreme Court has given him almost total immunity from legal prosecution and the Senate is as likely to vote to remove him as Mojtaba Khamenei is likely to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize.) It will take a blue wave in November and continued courage from state and federal judges to at least slow him down, and the election of a strong Democratic president, and a Democratic Congress in 2028 to stop him and, I hope, ensure that he shall reap what he has sown.
Sixty years? Daddy, to avoid taxes, gave baby Donnie a gift worth millions today. But I believe Trump IS worried about his “legacy”. Hence his signature on U.S. currency, renaming monuments, his Soviet parade on the first No Kings protest, yada yada and yada.
It is unclear that trump will be punished in the future for his crimes against America, and humanity as well, but it is our duty to strive to make that blue wave happen and stop further damage. Every one of us has to do whatever it takes to get to the polls and vote. It is not going to be easy, but it must be done.
Americans must learn civics and participate in this democracy, now and always, or this carnage will never stop.
The fool has done a good job of keeping history and civics out of schools. When I taught I included live civics lessons every day. These days I would be fired and put in prison for being a terrorist. I am serious about that. I guess parents will be responsible with dinner table talk with children or go to a private school where they do teach it.
I take it upon myself to speak with every patient that comes into the clinic where I work about civics. I also help people register to vote, and I give everyone who will take one a copy of the Constitution and a list of substack sites where they can get factual information, not maga propaganda.
We can all help until schools start doing the right thing. If we teach the parents, they can teach their kids.
