I noticed E. Jean Carroll’s paper clip. I also noticed how much healthier she looks in this photo than Trump currently looks. Just sayin’. Going to get my own paper clip.

bitchybitchybitchy's avatar

E. Jean Carroll is a decent human being.

Despite being feted by the British this week Donald Trump is a miserable, hollow bag of wind and bile.

Al Keim's avatar

Truly Judy. If anything demonstrates the demise of a once great nation it is the rise of Donald J. Trump.

Benzadine's avatar

He personifies everything that is wrong with our country.

Al Keim's avatar

Yes, it's like the worst of US were distilled into an elixir of disinformation then blended with a massive dose of spite.

Talia Giordano's avatar

Can’t wait for his fall!

Thunk! Like dropping a tub of lard.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Al, and the sad part is that it is coming onto our nation's 250th anniversary as a nation. Ugh!

Al Keim's avatar

Yes Ruth that and the undeniable fact that we did it to ourselves- TWICE!

MJAtlanta's avatar

To say the least...

Russell Meyer's avatar

"...miserable, hollow bag of wind and bile." !

Jen Andrews's avatar

And I hear he smells really really bad.

Pamela Tracey's avatar

And Princess Kate had to abide him, having to sit at his right during the state dinner.

kdsherpa's avatar

Didn't the King have to sit next to him for some event? I seem to recall that his chin was lifted.

Pamela Tracey's avatar

Yes! Stinkball was seated between Kate and the King at dinner. Would love to know if they compared notes afterwards! What they had to put up with to get a break on tariffs . . .

Benzadine's avatar

google it and share! LOL

Talia Giordano's avatar

How much do you want to bet the old lech tried to hit on her…in front of Mel!

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Pamela, and Kate, a decent human being, said nothing about it. The difference is notable; Trump would have had no qualms about making an insulting comment had the situations been reversed.

Leslie A Stensen's avatar

I guess his brand of perfume, sold at his online store, doesn't do the job!! Bless the princess Kate for putting up with sitting next to that piece.

moe's avatar

‘Oh de Colon’

Benzadine's avatar

I believe the correct term is "stinks to high heaven", which is the closest he'll ever get to heaven.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Jen, unlike Trump, most of the folks around him don't mention it. Courtesy is something Trump never had time for. OK, he didn't have time for kindness, caring, decency and a bunch of other positive characteristics either.

Babydoc's avatar

Couldn't have said it any better! The royals were softening him up so that Starmer could get a better trade deal. The Brits know that all you have to do to get something out of Trump is to flatter him. Notice that the big celebration was at Windsor Castle and not Buckingham Palace (where thousands of British citizens were protesting).

JA's avatar

The British Royalty understood how the people of the U.K. feel about DT. Trump was kept high and dry from the crowds and inside the walls at Windsor. The Prime Minister did the same, sending him to the country house and behind its walls! Trump had no chance to interact at all with the people!

Talia Giordano's avatar

You also have to give that thug money.

Babydoc's avatar

Thanks Mary Carroll for the Buckingham Palace update. I'm glad you agree that the British royalty was playing the flattery game. They did it very well. I hope the UK won't get screwed over by Trump with tariffs.

tal's avatar

The word feted was the NY times header. Far more complicated than that simplistic summation.

kdsherpa's avatar

"FETID" was the correct word. They should have used Spellcheck.

Bill Katz's avatar

I can’t wait to see her collect the 83 or so million. I hope she has a public party. I’ll perform my songs, lol.😆

Benzadine's avatar

I think King Charles is pretty crafty putting on such a show. He knows full well that our mewling bag of wind responds well to stroking.

Jon Rosen's avatar

I hate to be critical here, but you are giving wind and bile a VERY bad name.

:-)

A R's avatar

She may have made you notice but the People of Norway used them in WWII to indicate a member of the resistance.

Mary Stellick's avatar

Yes, Joyce explained that.

Talia Giordano's avatar

I think she looks healthier because the burden of her court case has been lifted and she won!

Trump looks like crap because of all the secrets, dirty dealing, dishonesty he lives with every day of his repulsive life.

I’m going to start wearing my paper clip tomorrow!

Jocelyn B's avatar

JennSH, Me too. On both counts.

jane A. martin's avatar

Perhaps Jill’s special paper clips can become new #SIL merch? I’d buy one in a nanosecond!

Frida's avatar

I like the idea of a basic paperclip, the common one, maybe a silver one, maybe a colorful one precisely because it is a common everyday item. The symbolism of the clip I believe celebrates the quiet, unassuming, commonplace, every-person. A fancy sterling or gold one doesnt have that same meaning.

Citizen60's avatar

Keep it non-partisan.

And put paper clips in your pocket to offer to anyone who asks about the one you’re wearing.

Ann G.'s avatar

Respectfully, I agree that keeping the message as nonpartisan as possible is crucial. For me, it emphasizes that what’s at stake is much, much bigger than politics.

MJAtlanta's avatar

I agree! There are several Rs who do not agree with or condone tRump's evil messages/acts/lies, etc. Let's not call out sides.

Edith Brideau's avatar

You can get large paper clips at every office supply company, probably even at WalMart. I happened to have a blue one in my office supplies, and I sure wasn't going to put on the red one that I also saw there.

kdsherpa's avatar

Excellent point! I was going with pink because it's so pretty. But I'll consider blue (except it will blend in with all of my clothes. Hmm...)

Catherine Windsor's avatar

I agree on all but one point. JWB is known for her pins, it’d be kind of weird if she didn’t have a paper clip pin.

Mary's avatar

My thought exactly!

Al Keim's avatar

My wife love's Jill's pins.

Bev Matias's avatar

Me too! Please keep us posted on this, Joyce!

Jeanney Kutner's avatar

I thought you would be talking about the paper clip project a small town in Tennessee started: the students collected 6 million paper clips to remind them of the 6 million Jews who perished in the shoah. I have paper clips on my desk and will start wearing one today.

Pat Shufeldt's avatar

And that was over 25 years ago. There is a children’s book about the project, SIX MILLION PAPER CLIPS; and a documentary film PAPER CLIPS, which can be rented or purchased from Amazon.

Teri Gelini's avatar

What a great idea for the school to bring awareness to the death of the Jewish people

Linda MacDonald's avatar

Holy Moly! There's a story that needs to be told. PAPER CLIPS! Norway gave us "QUISLING" and now the PAPER CLIP! Brilliant!

It's Come To This's avatar

In our weird day and age, there’ll soon be green hair-dyed punkers sporting jumbo paper clip-pierced nasal septums in no time. Ted Cruz will use it as more evidence of a vast libruhl conspiracy depriving him of the pleasure of his next vacation in Cancun.

Catherine Windsor's avatar

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Linda MacDonald's avatar

There was a 2004 Miramax documentary about a class in TN (yes, TN) studying the holocaust. The young students couldn’t comprehend the number 6 million. They started the paper clips project and sent out letters asking for contributions of paper clips. They got 10s of thousands of responses from all over the world. Someone donated a railroad car used in Nazi Germany in WW II and a memorial was created filled with at least 6 million paper clips.

Delores Gilchrist's avatar

Before I retired, I taught a unit on the Holocaust to my Honors 8th graders on Anne Frank and the Holocaust. A figure of 6 million is difficult to imagine. After a class where I attempted to put it into context with several examples, their assignment was to each make a poster that showed that huge figure in an easily understood way. The results were amazing! We were given permission to fill the hall bulletin board with these posters due to their amazing illustrations. (Wish I'd known about the paper clips back then.

Ma's avatar

What a loving and lovely testimonial. Teachers are still my favorite. I spent 30 years in school and training and loved every minute. Not to make light of such a grave situation, but there was a New Yorker cartoon (probably from the 90’s when a million was impressive) of an older investment manager sitting behind his desk with his head in his hands. The caption read, “why didn’t anyone tell me a hundred thousands equals a million?” I can’t fathom our national debt today.

Ma's avatar

Correction, a thousand thousands - maybe I needed more school…

pskbh's avatar

Wish we could see them!

Mary's avatar

Thank you for this information

Mary Gilbert's avatar

And bless the teacher(s) that came up with such a wonderful & visible idea to teach children about the holocaust.

JK's avatar

If teachers do that now they will be expelled for grooming anti fascists.

Bev Matias's avatar

I love this idea and will wear a paper clip daily until I feel confident that American democracy is safe and well. Thanks Joyce, Jill, and E. Jean!

Kathleen Dintaman's avatar

I, too, will sport a paper clip from now on.

Jane's avatar

This is perfect. I'd never heard this history. I just found a bright pink paperclip on my desk and will wear it on my black jacket to a funeral this morning.

Barbara Rengstorff's avatar

Great idea! I have lots of paper clips. I was thinking of wearing one of my big ones. But now I’m thinking of wearing a big one with a colored one hanging from it. I was also considering making a necklace of paper clips. I’m pretty lazy so we’ll have to see on that one. Thanks for all the ideas!

Catherine Windsor's avatar

With the colored clips you can color coordinate with your clothes.

I’m thinking about wearing a plain one as a pendant on a silver chain.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

I will look through my junk drawer for a colorful one

karen strano's avatar

I will definitely wear one to the art fair today. Another quiet, subtle form of protest is the Bright Blue Dot. https://www.britebluedot.com/ You can get a little 2 inch square sticker for your car window. It doesn't say anything but tells those in the know that you are a bright blue dot in a red state, county, family. In my case it's county.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

I have a NO KINGS garden flag in back yard… will move to front …if I feel brave enough…definitely on NO KINGS PROTEST DAY….

Ally House (Oregon)'s avatar

My yard flag: Humankind. Be both.

karen strano's avatar

I understand being afraid to move the sign to the front yard. I am afraid to put a sign out front except for candidates around election time.

Heidi L 🇵🇸 🇺🇦 🇬🇱's avatar

I put a sign out front of our house listing all the things we should all be in favor of: Checks & Balances, Democracy, Equality, etc. Someone stole it within a week. So I bought three more. The new one has lasted one month and counting. Never give up!

karen strano's avatar

Someone (MAGAt) was always taking my Harris/Walz sign so I put vaseline all around the edges and put blue sprinkles on the vaseline - use gloves. Then to make things even more secure, I surrounded it with barbed wire. It was never stolen again.

Heidi L 🇵🇸 🇺🇦 🇬🇱's avatar

I had a similar thought re: the Vaseline, but the addition of blue sprinkles is genius. I also contemplated strategically placed "doggie land mines" around the base. Trail cams were also purchased and will be deployed if this one disappears.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

My dog would be glad to donate. Great idea.

karen strano's avatar

Doggie landmines are easier to scoop and place than tangling with barbed wire. I’ll remember for the next election.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

Thank you. I appreciate knowing am not alone.

Elsie W's avatar

We are prohibited from having yard signs. Maybe a flag with a paperclip or a blue dot.

Cherae Stone's avatar

Put one inside your window. That’s where mine is.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

I have 3 small upside down flags in front window.

Delores Gilchrist's avatar

Me, too. I don't even do it at election time. All over my town--and just about the whole county--they fly Trump flags. Even my friends are Trump fans. I just don't understand it.

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

Here, too. Trumpers all over the place. Like an invasion of roaches.

Sharon's avatar

Will order mine today. Like Joyce I am surrounded in AL. But am slowly finding blue dots. This might make it faster!

Judy CZUBATI's avatar

I have a blue heart garden flag out front…

ahenstrand's avatar

From 1980-1990 in Poland during martial law people wore resistors - tiny elements from anything electrical. Saw this at the European Solidarity Center and Museum in Gdansk earlier this year.

DA's avatar

Interesting! Thanks for posting.

Abby From Maine's avatar

We all HAVE paperclips! I'll share this widely, wear one today, and hope that it catches on! Thank you for sharing this east idea to identify ourselves to each other! <3

pskbh's avatar

If nothing else, we'll have questions! We don't have to initiate a conversation which, in my case, could be combative. But a simple question and a simple answer is sublime. I can do this!

Robin's avatar

I still have the safety pins on my jackets and coats from tRump's first term. I will now add a paper clip to my everyday baseball cap, which also sports a pride pin and a US flag (often upside down).

Catherine Windsor's avatar

My everyday ball cap says "Navy" and has my crossed anchors pin on it. I’ve been debating whether or not to add my pronoun pin, I don’t want my anchor pin to get lost in a bunch of pins.

Bill Katz's avatar

Neat. Yes she does look cool. But it’s too subtle for me. I prefer wearing the tee shirt I made 6 years ago announcing the traitors of America and Trump is boldly listed as the most recent entrant.

Gordon Berry's avatar

Do both/alternate! - depending on which crowd you're swinging with that day!

pskbh's avatar

You can't possibly have any space left...

Marliss Desens's avatar

I've been wearing my Penzey's pins, although not everyone knows about Penzey's. I'll consider adding a paper clip.

P.S. If you are not familiar with Penzey's, it is a long-established spice company that has supported good causes for a long time. Before marriage equality had widespread support, their then magazine included in its cooking stories a family with two fathers and received hate mail. They didn't back down. Bill Penzey has also been opposing Trump since before 2016. (And their spices are excellent! I've been a customer for over 25 years.)

Mary Gilbert's avatar

Me too-not quite as long a customer as you because Missouri got their stores much later than the upper midwest but I’ve been purchasing my spices from Penzey’s for 6-7 years.

Marliss Desens's avatar

You are lucky to have a store. I do mail order, but one of these days, I will get to one of their stores!

MaryPat's avatar

And Penzy's has the best spices! My chef son keeps me supplied with them.

Ann Panda's avatar

Love it! Thanks, Joyce!

J E Ross's avatar

During Trump 1.0 teachers in the middle school where I taught wore safety pins to signal that we were a “safe” person to the LGBTQ community and wouldn’t out anyone. I think this is genius! Thanks—and I hope you find what you need at the farmer’s market!

CathyP's avatar

I was a wearer of the safety pin in the early days of Trump 1.0. I remember one day fretting about whether to wear my safety pin to a wedding reception where the attire was pretty formal. I decided not to wear it but put it in my purse. When I took my seat at my assigned table for dinner, I saw that the woman seated next to me was wearing a safety pin on her fancy dress. I put mine back on, regretting that I hadn't worn it from the outset.

Jean Tesoriero's avatar

Hey Cathy. That you took it with you, and took it out and put it on, sounds courageous enough to me. And admirable too!

Mary Gilbert's avatar

Oh goodness that is an awesome gesture by teachers likely surrounded by a policy that wouldn’t support that lifestyle. Luckily our kids went to a school that had an LGBTQ club.
