Janai Nelson, The Lawyer Who Argued The Callais Gerrymandering Case
Every Tuesday, I co-host the Insider podcast on the Stay Tuned with Preet channel here on Substack, with my former US Attorney colleague Preet Bharara, who many of you already know. This week, Preet is out, so I asked my friend Janai Nelson, the President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund to join me.
Janai became one of the few women of color to argue before the Supreme Court when she argued Louisiana v. Callais this term. We discuss the decision, its impact on voting rights, and what it’s like to argue a case before the Supreme Court. In a moment where we all need a hero, listening to Janai discuss how she prepared for the argument and dealt with questions from conservative justices who seemed to have already made up their minds is really heartwarming. You can listen to the episode here, and I hope you will.
We’re in this together,
Joyce

I listen every week. Your interview was great. But why do we refer to the far right racist extremists as "conservative". They are far from conservative. They are all extremist biggots, starting from what was called the "Tea Party", to now the misnomer of the "Federalist Society". This country has been through tough times before and we will get it back in the future. Stay Strong.
All the more reason to expand the court and to make these 6 Injustices impotent.
