The fight for Congress must focus on "Trumpism" and not so much on Trump himself. From immigration to healthcare to education and the Law, the Trump agenda is cruel, authoritarian and terrible for the American people.

For the past year, the GOP has enabled a vain glorious, vulgarian who cares nothing for our democratic republic to run our government like he is a king.

A lot of Republicans will say they detest Trump as a person but they like "Trumpism". That's a BS attempt to hold onto their seats and their power.

"Trumpism" is a terrible for America in every way and a terrible leadership style for our country. Make Americans look at the nightmare they support with Trumpism and we will take our country back.

One more point. Trump propaganda describes us liberals as suffering from TDS -- Trump Derangement Syndrome. If anyone is suffering from Derangement Syndrome it's the GOP and it's BDS--Biden Derangement Syndrome.

Every problem facing Trump, they say, is Biden's fault!! BDS.

We need to say BS to BDS every day. The GOP has made the problems. Either they start fixing them or give power back to the Dems and we will fix them.

Joyce I look forward to your daily letters to me which helps me understand what you write; especially all the legal terms that affect trump with The courts and what the Supreme Court allows or doesn’t. I wish I could do more though; however I’m doing my best to talk with others the importance of supporting those Democrats in Congress especially to help us get the majority at the midterms. If not we will not be able to impeach trump .

Democrats dont have a prayer. They're duscoirdinated. They dont speak out against the evil with a unified voice. They get steamrolled. The power brokers *ie who have broken the system) spew propaganda and lies like a fire hose.

Cindy Wiggins's avatar

JBR, Please quit complaining about 'the Democrats'. The only blame to be laid at this time is on Trump's Cabinet, his advisors, Republican Senators, Representatives and Governors, the Supreme Court fascist justices and all those, including the ultra wealthy, who maintain their slavish devotion to the man who caused all of this, the brutal dictator Donald Trump. Complaining about the Democrats accomplishes absolutely nothing except persuading yet more people not to bother voting, because 'Hey, why vote? Everyone knows the Democrats do nothing!' This is a dangerous message. Please Google Democratic Party accomplishments and take a long look at what they achieved with their time in government. Sorry for the harsh tone but it is critically important to think about how to help not merely complain.

Marnie Mueller's avatar

Cindy, I agree. We should applaud their courage and ablitiy to stay the course in the face of the authoritarian onslaught. Every day I see some profile in courage coming from our side. It's easy to demean them, hard to step out and support their efforts. Ask oneself, what have I done today to say, keep going...fill in the blank. Senator Kelly! Representative Crocket! Senator Murphy! Representative AOC! etc etc. etc.

Don’t apologize for being critical of what this guy posted - which is pure cynicism - just what Joyce is talking about. I read a beautiful, eloquent essay on cynicism recently which I don’t want to oversimplify - there was som much in it. But a central point was this: cynicism is collaboration.

Thanks Cindy...you are absolutely correct. I blame the ignorance of all those who support Trump for our current situation and for their belief in the lies spewed by his administration. The Nazis were similar masters of propaganda. In grade school we had to watch "Triumph of the Will" which was a "masterpiece" of lies and propaganda. Today, we have Fox News (which is not really news but "entertainment"), and social media platforms like "Truth" Social. Even the terms "Conservative" and "Liberal" have been used without foundation. Trumpers think they're CONSERVATIVE!!! If you support the Constitution, feel that the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6th was WRONG, support a free press, etc., that seems to be the mark of a TRUE AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE...shame on them for calling themselves "conservatives."

"Democrats don't have a chance" etc etc.

Mostly specious rhetoric of the Leftish. Self fulfilling prophecies of the Putin fan girl Jill Stein crowd. All of whom helped elect Trump.

And also mostly lies disproven by empirical evidence. Google Congressional Progressive Caucus. Pick some names, then go to the CSpan archives, and listen to Democrats hard at work.

But one near truth about speaking out. Potential Democratic voters - all American citizens who oppose the Republican regime - must unite at the ballot for Democratic candidates.

David Piper's avatar

Trump (and the GOP) have fully adopted the "Big Lie Theory" put forth by Adolf Hitler in Mein Kampf. Unfortunately, it is not reported by our MSM that ALL these lies are part of the scheme developed by the Nazi's of the 1930's. The other part of the republican "plan" is using "projection" - also developed by Hitler and Joseph Goebbels. People keep talking about all the LIES, but they don't explain why the GOP is doing this. Projection is when "your accusation is a confession." (The Nazi's explained it a bit differently, but the meanin is the same) They use these "strategies" because they work and they get away with it because our so-called "liberal media" is too timid to make the connection from Trump, Miller, and the Project 2025 "puppet masters," to the Nazi's of the Third Reich. Until the public understands exactly what is happening the cynicism will grow - I see it with my own 36 year old son. (And, I've explained this to him) Democrats and our media MUST quit "beating around the bush." The Trump admin is full of FASCISTS and we can't be afraid to say that!

You are correct about BDS. On Tuesday, January 20th, he will have been in office for year. He has had a year to correct whatever it was that Biden may or may not have done. If he has not corrected anything Biden did, then it is all his fault. And if the electorate is upset with his policies on the economy and trade, healthcare, education, immigration, justice and the courts, foreign policy and his adventures, and pardons [see his poll numbers] then it is all his fault. If he mentions Biden after Tuesday, then it is his usual Ds, [deflect, delay, deny, discount, deceive, divide, dulcify, discredit, destroy and deal].

It is much easier to blame than to try to correct the "error." Correction takes courage. Blame is the lazy person's response. The democratic Constitutionalists are trying to salvage what remains of the Rule of Law and Democracy. Unfortunately, the president doesn't know what these principles are. This lack is caused by a misperception of one's own worth and a large dose of self aggrandizement. The result is chaos, dismantling of our democracy, and degradation of humanity. It takes a strong person to bring sanity back to our world, not wishful thinking and lies.

As this illustrates, there are still those who believe the BIG LIE and will continue to push Trump's words and actions. (I wanted to write 'values' but there is no value in what Donald Trump pushes.) He is a thug and all his Cabinet members are as well. My mother passed away 7 years ago and she wanted nothing more than to live long enough to see Trump in jail. She was 5 weeks short of 100 when she died. I'm now wondering if I'LL live long enough to see him in jail. But at this point, I'd settle for seeing him out of the White House. I feel no security in knowing that he has the nuclear code...

Maureen Dorsey's avatar

There is always the possibility that he will not live long enough to be put in jail. Here's hoping he continues to embrace his health secretary's ill conceived nutrition pyramid. And avoids flu vaccines.

Phil Johnson's avatar

Maureen Dorsey's avatar

Despite trump's attempts to delay and disrupt the transfer of power, the Biden Administration did the hard work of turning our Titanic shipstate around and avoid the kind of economic hardships that befell the other major economies of the West that were being decimated by a worldwide pandemic. Handed a disaster that was Afghanistan (which was neither ended by trump as he promised and nor rationally negotiated for withdrawl----and complicated by hundreds of released Taliban fighters by dimwit trump) Biden and the military did their best.

Biden used his talents to get us the infrastructure bill that was a key economic policy---trump has only ever served to exaggerate 'trickle down' and the republican party is merely a tool of the 1%ers. Morons, aka magas, willfully voted for this economic disaster to be continued, which will only serve to enhance plastic surgeons' bottom lines as they scramble to replace all those noses cut off to spite those faces.

Otherwise almost reasonable people I know voted for trump because they were 'afraid' of immigrants and 'men playing in women's sports'. Nothing that actually affected their personal lives. Noseless faces became an epidemic in 2024.

Ned McDoodle's avatar

The cynicism is, possibly, an adaptation to anomie; things are falling apart and the atmosphere is atomizing. What to do? Additionally, when I read of the immense evil of the Nazis or the U.S.S.R., it is so vile and evil and live that it is hard to believe that people really could be this way. But they were. 😱

https://youtu.be/rAn-AWXtHv0 (Trite but true.)

Likewise, it is challenging for me to believe that Team Treason could be so corrupt, so untruthful, so mean-spirited; that the craven quislings of my erstwhile Party in Congress. would be so scared of losing their positions of power that they barter their decency, extinguish their souls through complicity. BUT THEY DO.🤢

https://youtu.be/ZBiH5fsKJB8 (Still brings a tear to my old and fading eye.)

Thus, I often end up sitting around -- haplessly, apathetically, perhaps cynically -- wondering how could America could ever get this way. Even as a conservative, I wonder, in deepening and unutterable sadness, where we would be today had Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King had NOT been murdered in 1968.💔

FREE AMERICA WALKOUT

One year into Trump’s second regime, we face an escalating fascist threat: raids on our communities, troops occupying our cities, attacks on immigrants, families torn apart, mass surveillance, and terror used to keep us silent. It is time for our communities to escalate as well.

2025 was a year of marches that showed our collective strength. And as the threats grow, our movement must evolve and escalate. Trump and his allies have already made clear that a second term would bring a deeper wave of misogyny, racism, xenophobia, and violence than the first.

On January 20, we call on our communities to organize teams, call your neighbors and classmates, and turn your back and walk out on fascism. Host mutual aid planning meetings, organize public service, but walk out to block the normal routines of power, and make the stakes real. This is a protest and a promise. In the face of fascism, we will be ungovernable.

★ We walk away from fascism. ★

★ We walk towards a Free America. ★

★ We fight for a future that belongs to us all. ★

★ Everybody in, nobody out. ★

But your comment brings to mind one of my favorite quotes from Thic Nhat Han. When asked by a student monk how can one live knowing the vast amount of suffering in this world he replied, "Do what you love to do". Joy is necessary. Whatever it is that you love to do: knitting, volunteering, painting, walking with your dogs - what gives you joy and a sense of calm also projects joy out into the world. It was October, 1941. Britain was still fighting alone in Western Europe, with many nations having fallen to the Nazis. The worst of the nightly bombing raids by the Luftwaffe had destroyed cities and severely impacted civilian morale. On October 29th, Winston Churchill, speaking to his alma mater Harrow School, said this:

"Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." And Britain didn't --- against all odds.
