Good night from Scotland! We are, very sadly, finished hiking, and will head home tomorrow. We’ve survived driving on the left-hand side of the road, roundabouts, and one-lane roads, and it’s all been wonderful and just the recharge we needed, an adventure with dear friends. I may need to sleep for 24 hours after we get home, though.
I will miss this lovely view, the sound of rain, roaring fires, and random conversations with or overheard snippets from other Americans. Even the folks who looked conservative seemed to have arrived at the “I can’t vote for Trump (again)” stage, so things feel hopeful.
It will be strange to be back in a place where sheep don’t roam freely, but I’m looking forward to being home. The daily reports we’ve been getting have reassured us that everyone is well, but we miss them. And I’m eager to follow the activity as both the election interference case in Washington, D.C. and the Eleventh Circuit appeal of the dismissal of the classified documents case pick back up.
While I expect much of the news next week to be legal, we’re at the point where we will need to constantly juggle political news alongside legal. Last Friday, a dozen lawyers from former Republican Administrations released a letter that read in part, "We endorse Kamala Harris and support her election as President because we believe that returning former President Trump to office would threaten American democracy and undermine the rule of law in our country.” They shared the letter first with Fox News Digital. Let’s do whatever we can to help them share their message with their target audience: "We cannot go along with other former Republican officials who have condemned Trump with these devastating judgments but are still not willing to vote for Harris. We believe this election presents a binary choice, and Trump is utterly disqualified."
We’re in this together,
Joyce
Joyce, if you and family are so inclined, please wear N95 mask on travel home. The southern US states are now leading in active COVID cases and there’s also cold, pneumonia, RSV in circulation. Mary Trump was exposed at DNC, sadly. No fun…be careful, safe.
Safe travels home!
