Five Questions with Mary McCord
MSNBC Legal Analyst and former acting Assistant Attorney General for DOJ's National Security Division
Mary McCord and I served in the Justice Department together. She was in Main Justice in the National Security Division while I was the U.S. Attorney in North Alabama. One thing I learned about Mary almost immediately is that she has take-it-to-the-bank judgment.
Mary left the Justice Department early in the Trump Administration. Today she is Executive Director of the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection (ICAP) and a Visiting Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center. She is also a legal analyst for MSNBC and has a podcast, Prosecuting Trump, with another one of our former DOJ colleagues, Andrew Weissmann. Mary is an active litigator and she also does important policy work, including her focus on domestic terror and the white supremacist movement.
That’s what she’s here to discuss with us tonight. Mary is running an effort to help election officials, civic leaders, voters, and law enforcement prepare for and protect against political violence this election cycle. The topics she is addressing include voter intimidation, unlawful paramilitary activity, and threats and harassment against government officials. These issues are especially timely as we enter the final weeks before the election and the post-election period. No one better to help us understand what to expect than Mary!
