Elections and Authoritarians: In Conversation with Ruth Ben-Ghiat

I’ve been fighting a migraine all day, so instead of trying to write tonight, I’m going to leave you with the video of my conversation with NYU History Professor and author of Strongmen, Ruth Ben-Ghiat. Even when we discuss difficult or distressing topics, I feel better after sorting them through with Ruth. I think you will too, especially because something we’re good at brainstorming together is what we can do about the challenges we face, instead of just getting bogged down in them.

If you prefer reading to watching, look up at the top of the link and click the transcript button, marked with an arrow in the image below.

Ruth and I discuss elections, authoritarians, and also, how we can have the difficult conversations that are essential, but can be awkward or even seem inappropriate. I hope you’ll try out some of our suggestions and let us know how it goes.

I’ll be back tomorrow, hopefully minus the migraine.

We’re in this together,

Joyce
