These two are my everything. It takes a special chicken to eat at the table with the German Shepherd. Pepper is one of our two oldest chickens; one of the original Silkie chicks we got from a farm in North Alabama during the pandemic. Although she’s tiny, she believes in herself earnestly. No one pushes Pepper around.
Bella is exceptionally good-tempered, but I especially love the gentle way she shares her favorite thing in the whole world—food—with the flock. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone was more like Bella?
We also have some sad pet news in our house. Our beloved Boxer Miss Fig, a birthday present from my husband ten summers ago, passed away last week. She had been ailing for a while, and we knew it was coming, but it doesn’t make it any easier, of course. Such a good, sweet dog.
Don’t forget that Judd Legum from Popular Information and I are getting together for a live video chat about the election Wednesday night, and all of you are invited. The details are in this post. We are looking forward to talking about what’s on your mind, so please let us know. You can get your questions to us:

Looking forward to being with all of you on Wednesday.
We’re in this together,

As a Texan would say to Miss Fig, "Rest easy, girl."
So sorry for the loss of your dear Miss Fig 💝
