Why are all these non-elected non-vetted non-officials getting airtime, security clearance, and a platform? What do Stephen Miller's and Pete Hegseth's spouses have to do with anything, yet they seem privy to all the inside information, even meetings and phone calls? Why does convicted Steve Bannon still get coverage? Why are non-attorneys general still getting taxpayer salaries? There are so many things to question about this administration and yet they retain unfettered power.

Miller, the evil and cruel unelected white supremacist/nationalist is behind what the 34xfelon does and says. Frightening that someone unelected weilds so much power. And now his wife's messages can't be ignored either.

I stood alone with my sign yesterday in front of my state capital in Hartford, CT at noon. Later that early evening I joined protests at the federal building on main street. I will do all I can to try and save our democracy.

Bill H (AZ)'s avatar

Bill:

Well done. I applaud your efforts. However, that exposure may end in your being taken captive for practicing your right to protest. Make sure someone knows where you will be so as they can find you.

Authorities will be lax in allowing you to contact anyone for legal needs or notification. This group does not care about your rights.

I wonder if Miller would be so tough if he did not have the backing he has now. I get the feeling he would break down.

MollyWhitebear's avatar

Of course he would! He's nothing but a racist, misogynistic bully with a Napoleon complex who's been handed almost unlimited power by the demented, deranged and diseased orange glob in the WH. Without that, he'd turn himself into a wallflower and fade off into the background and wait for his next chance.

Susie in OH's avatar

I don’t think so. Didn’t he get into this position through the influence of the rich Mercers who also pushed Bannon into the campaign from Breitbart somehow? He was pushed into the first admin because he’s an attack dog white supremacist and I clearly recall his wacko claim in another interview that “one day all will bow before Trump” which everyone thought was hilarious. I think he has his jaws firmly latched onto Trump and he will never let go without substantial force being applied.

lin•'s avatar

"Miller, the evil and cruel unelected white supremacist/nationalist is behind what the 34xfelon does and says."

No doubt Miller's foreskin has grown back as a KKK hood. In his dreams. As Ben Shapiro seems to have intimated from his pals' embrace of Nazi fan boy Nick Fuentes, we Jews are only white enough to be enforcers for the ChristFascists, never members of the club. Miller is only "behind Trump" as in propping Trump up. If you want to know who is "behind Trump" as in determining "what Trump does and says" then look to the oil magnates such as Charles Koch and the tech bros such as Musk and Thiel. To the formulators of Project 2025 and the funders.

Yeah, sadly Miller, Netanyahu, et al are 'our people.' We cannot disown them anymore than Muslims can disown their violent religious extremists. Or Catholics can disown their pedophile priests, Leonard Leo et al. Or Protestants can disown their ChristoFascist evangelicals. Or Hindu's can disown Modi et al. So it is on all people of faith to publicly condemn those of 'their own' who act in bad faith. Just as it is on us acting as secular patriots to condemn our governments' bad actors and bad actions. And those we can 'disown' by voting them out. There is plenty to do to 'clean house' in church and state.

Karen for their efforts, those guys should be in prison for treason. We can't even acknowledge that Trump has dementia and is being used by Miller and others, so it is hard to get anything related to Miller to stick. So many are under the delusion that Trump is running anything except his mouth.

John D. Cooper's avatar

You are right, Ruth. Trump runs his mouth. Miller is one of the not so behind the scenes people who are running this show along with Peter Thiel, etc.

Jon Rosen's avatar

It shouldn't be "frightening" to anyone that Stephen Miller, despite never being elected wields so much power. It is not new or uncommon. Deputies have ALWAYS had significant power within Presidencies of both political parties.

The only thing "new" and frightening here is the outrageous fascistic approach Miller has to his responsibilities. This is especially concerning coming from someone whose family background includes Jewish victims of the holocaust. There is great irony in recognizing Miller as Trump's Joseph Goebbels.

Margaret's avatar

He needs to read history and see how Goebbels ended his time on earth.

Yup. Unfortunately it took a massive war costing millions of lives for that to happen. I certainly would like to see that fate averted this time around.

The venality and amorality of FOX is staggering. But having it on full time in hospital waiting rooms, airports, and military bases and police stations is poisoning our body politic.

Bill Corbett's avatar

We were in a restaurant last evening in Marco Island, Fl. and the TV was turned to FOX, and I couldn't hear the sound but could certainly make out the headline and what they were lying about. The waiter laid a guest signature book on the table, and I told my wife to write, "Turn off the FOX broadcast" as our greeting. I can't tell you when the last time I watched those people, but 30- or 40-seconds last night was enough for me for the rest of my life. It's a propaganda site, front and center. I suppose I should watch it more often, just to keep tabs, but my heart would quit.

Abigail Norling's avatar

I have asked for the remote and changed or turned it off scores of times. 90% of the time no one cares. I recommend that we all do this. It's a small thing, but if you can get CNN or MS NOW on for a while, you are doing a service!

Carol Parsons's avatar

As I went through the laundry room to the pool in our 55+ community I changed the channel from Fox to MSNOW; nobody was in there but still……. . Maybe I should make a point of going more often!

Jenn Z's avatar

If you are the only one in the room, you can use the remote to block the Fox station. My husband did that once in his partner lounge and it took them a couple of weeks to figure it out :)

Carol Parsons's avatar

PeachBlossom's avatar

But how much longer will it be before CNN is just a parrot of Faux News?

Nancy's avatar

It's moving in that direction. I don't watch them any more!

Debbie Boerger's avatar

Agree. CNN was my go-to US based news source. Not so much now. I go to BBC Live for international news, and the overseas slant on the Derangement here in the US. Katie Turr had several stunning interviews late yesterday afternoon on the violence to peaceful protestors in Minneapolis. Then came the shooting by ice of two people in Portland, Oregon yesterday.

People are increasingly pushing back, one man whose 72-year-old wife was shoved backwards into a snowbank and along with other peaceful protestors, pepper sprayed in the face. He wondered to the interviewer if they were Proud Boys or Oath Keepers from Trumps personal army, as they seem so poorly trained.

I was discussing with one of you the possibility of this devolving into an actual standoff between State and Federal might, including armed forces. The strong push back by Minnesota and Oregon is a hint. I was a protester against the Viet Nam "war" in the 60's and 70's. I remember being spat on and being a Commie, and I so remember Kent State. MAGA's tend to buy the rhetoric. Buckle up, this is coming, folks. Excellent time for China or Russia to strike?

Kathleen Fernandez's avatar

CNN is the very reason behind Joyce's column today -- they interviewed Stephen Miller. And they are not even close to being a parrot of Faux Noise.

Outdoorluvr's avatar

Not a parrot, no, but they're giving these cretins airtime without pushing back on their heinous lies. Kaitlin Collins tries, but has to walk a fine line or lose her access to the Whore House... oops, I mean White House.

We sold our summer place in Tampa last year and moved up here full time to Maine. Sadly, our daughter died recently, and we are leaving here on Monday to fly back to deal with the aftermath.

My husband, AKA The Lovely, says after that he never wants to see the state again. Our daughter taught kindergarten for 34 years there, and she kept me informed of the censoring of reading material, even what they were allowed to put on their bulletin boards. She said someone would saunter through the classrooms, smile and check that none of the Banned books were out.

This kind of self-justification (for creature comforts) is a pretty good indication that liberal-leaning voters aren't willing to do the kind of hard work that's going to be required to turn things around. Too many of us aren't serious about our convictions.

As an interesting side note: our daughter, my daughter in law, reported that she had visited with some girl friends who expressed their right wing take on the world. Afterward they thanked her for listening and asking questions rather than challenging them. She went home deciding to watch some FOX for a bit. Her reaction? Wow! She reported to her mother that she realized why they thought the way they did; they were watching and listening to an entirely different take on what is happening. Yikes!!

Bill Corbett's avatar

I know and it is probably the most frustrating thing about this, that we have a broadcast entity that does not tell the truth, pure propaganda. I’m going to say this and I may get in some trouble but if I could I would burn that place to the ground I would, but as a disclaimer, I can’t but that’s how much I disdain what they do. Just saying what I did shows the level of frustration I’m at. I’m shocked people watch it and believe what they say.

John D. Cooper's avatar

Bill, I fully recognize and share your outlook. I thought there was some hope when following stories of the family feud about the company’s future. Why did we elect trump twice? Everything you question is valid, disgusting and true but they are off-shoots, part and parcel of what to me is the central question: what the f—k is wrong with this country? We have been headed here for decades, and on and off throughout our history. Who are we that we have allowed corporations to amass the power they have, laws to flourish that award power and say-so only to the wealthy, allowed the broliarchy to invade our every-day lives, elected politicians who have only their own and wealthy friend’s interests at heart and have chipped away at the safety nets and public schools? We have allowed racism, white supremacy, christo-fascism, and misogyny to gain footholds in our police, military and politicians and run like a polluted stream through our country. I am disgusted with our country and don’t know what to do to purge this awfulness so that it doesn’t come around again in 4 or 8 more years. I will continue to resist and support any thing and anyone who fights this administration and confront lies and misinformation when I see it. And lots of us are doing this and more. How do we stop it and keep it from coming back?

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Hummingbird, it is going to take a lot of us working together at many different levels and locations. So much of it started with Ford's pardoning of Nixon, claiming it would help to heal America. All it did was tell the political criminals that a president, if properly trained and paid off can pardon anyone from any crimes called "federal" and few will complain if those in power can get more power with government intervention and heavily blaming the have nots for all the problems faced by everyone in the country. Reagan seemed like such a "good guy" to so many, but he had little experience of governing because he was a crappy governor of CA, having law enforcement attack protesters, particularly college students. He used drugs as an excuse to harm his fellow citizens and to give rich white men more power, a chunk at a time. Bush Sr. went right along with it, even getting us into a war that so many thought was just great, but it left Bush Jr. needing to do what his daddy hadn't done, invading Iraq. Bush,Jr. was not actually "elected" but with the electoral college, his brother in charge in Florida, and cheating just part of the way things are done in Florida, Bush Jr. became president, again no real experience of governing beyond signing death warrants, mostly for people of color in Texas. Bush,Jr. got us into two wars and a major economic crisis that Democrats had to clean up after, just as they had to do after his dad left office. The whole time, Republican presidents and members of Congress were being manipulated to blame all the ills of the world on Democrats, poor people of color in particular and immigrants whenever they could work it in. They ran McCain in 2008, but his age and his pick of Palen as his running mate were marks against him. The economic crisis didn't work well either. Obama and Biden got about 50 days to get everything done to fix the problems left to them by Bush,Jr. and that was not going to happen because the crisis was really bad and we are still trying to recover completely from it. Republicans were desperately looking for someone who could "relate" to the Republican base and would buy the BS the Republicans were dishing out. They found their guy in an incompetent businessman who was manipulatable, hateful, resentful of everyone who had things he wanted, in short, a child-man. A show was built around him, even to building sets because the Trump building was in such bad shape. The whole show was a fraud, but it was sold as "reality TV," which it definitely was not. Trump would mouth whatever lies were fed to him by the last guy to talk to him out of a group. He didn't win the election either, but the electoral college negated 3 million votes and he got into office. Democrats were shut out of most of what was going on until 2019 when they took the House. They did keep Trump and his crazies from doing more damage, but what Republicans had done was enormous: cutting taxes massively for the very rich, allowing children to be separated from parents and thrown into cages for the scared white guys who can't stand immigrants who are smarter and just all-'round better than they are. They lied, cheated when they could, and lied some more. Russell Vought, a rich nobody, and his whiny white friends wrote a stupid evil document called "Project 2025" during Biden's term to undermine our government, and turn Americans against each other only for the benefit of the very rich, mostly white men with far too much money. Then, I do believe that 4 years when Biden was helping to make massive advances in this nation particularly related to climate change and international relations as well as transportation and general infrastructure, and the things America needs, The project 2025ers went to work to get a system in place for stealing the election in 2024, probably practicing on certain ones in 2022. There is some evidence related to "swing state" voting that there is likely to have been interference. Democrats, fearing to be seen as just like Republicans whining over the 2020 election which Trump definitely lost, they didn't challenge the results and allowed the project 2025ers to wreck our government. They should have been arrested the night they entered our departments claiming to be the DOGE, a non-existent government entity that was designed by Musk and friends to steal Americans' private information for his own benefit. They are still at it, just not "officially." There are some things we can do.

1. Get everyone we know and even don't know to be sure they are registered to vote, signing them up NOW

2. Pressure our media to report the truth. The truth is that Ms. Good, in Minneapolis was murdered by an ICE operative! There is no controversy, no mistake about that. What there is, a lot of lying on the part of Trump and his toddler pool. They need to be called out all the time on every social media, as creatively as possible by as many people as possible

3. Continue to protest the killings, not just there but also in Chicago and the other cities and the shootings, bad treatment in the concentration camp prisons, and call out what ICE and the Border Patrol are doing all the time so people will get the idea that this is what is going on in our name and with our tax money.

4. Do not lose hope, give up, or allow ourselves to think that Trump and his crazies are worthy of any respect beyond that of being human beings; they do not know what they are doing except that it will hurt people their boss Baby Donnie doesn't like.

5. Encourage a lot of people to read our Constitution over and over so we can demand our Congress start following and living by it and the oaths they swore.

Those are just a few and many others have even better suggestions, but we can each do our little or big part to stop this Trumplican insanity. Trump has dementia and needs to be gone from office, but so do his handlers whose plot is to destroy this nation so their rich buddies can take over. We don't have to allow it.

Only problem for Trump is that Stephen Miller can't keep himself 'behind the scene'. This interview and a few other recent ones are bringing Stephen out from his dark corners and showing just what a disloyal person he really is. Disloyal to our Democracy. Miller is deluded and evil in many ways. Among other things, he has NO idea of the resources necessary to occupy and control territory and populations. It is one thing to defeat conventional forces. It is an entirely different thing to occupy and control territory and populations--it requires far more resources, in terms of manpower, materiel and money. The US apparently (according to the most recent reporting I can find) has NO boots on the ground in Venezuela. Trump and Miller's foreign aggression is a very dangerous paper tiger--capable of terrible disruption of the international order, destruction and murder, but incapable of attaining the stated goals of controlling territories outside the US.

Mike Savage's avatar

Thank you, Professor. I’m not sure what to say. Miller is disturbed. A man filled with hatred for so many people that are different from him. I don’t know anybody that would want to be him and I say that with pity. The world used to look to America as a place of freedom. Miller is sending/projecting fear into the world. As is his… I don’t know what to call him, but we know who that is. Why not use our power for good and bring peace and tranquility to the world as our objective. I hope the midterms change things and we rid ourselves of this scourge that is plaguing us. We the people. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That is what is America means to most Americans and those that choose to come here for that reason. And we should welcome them. Peace and love to everybody. It works in the long run. I truly believe that. Hope. 🌻

Derek Smith's avatar

“Why not use our power for good …” ? Because it is easier to hate than to love.

Something tells me Miller was bullied when he was a child and he never grew up and got past it. Society is full of small, petty men who never overcame their insecurities and are warped, sociopathic individuals. Miller is one, and unfortunately he is now engaging the levers of power.

What a lovely idea!

Could we just start with bringing peace and happiness to America?

Then maybe we could show ourselves off as an example for other countries - a bit like the Scandinavian countries could do if they so chose.

We were a LITTLE way along that road just after WWII - but then we got so well off and happy we forgot to keep an eye on what was going on behind the scenes, and the rats moved in.

Maybe we will get them out again soon, now we can see that they've chewed through all the wires, peed over everything in the pantry and left chewed up runs through the basement - but we're still going to have to agree what we are going to do ensure that "happy life" is spread right across society.

Maybe get some good old steel toothed "billionaire traps" spread around the homestead.

Because lazy stupid men follow patterns of habit rather than think. propaganda stations that never carried news but call themselves news publically but entertainment when in court were allowed to build lie on lie without ever facing public disgrace for their lies even when found guilty! Easier to ignore and keep everyone happy than tell the truth!! People too lazy to vote!!

If bombs fall it will be Stephen Miller ordering Trump to order it.

Outdoorluvr's avatar

If you'll recall, trump has always been fascinated with the idea of violence, as shown in his statements: Why do we have nukes if we never use them? Can't we just shoot the protestors in the legs? We'll rain down the hurt like has never been seen in the history of the world! It was beautiful - we hunted him down like a dog! Maybe Mike Pence deserves it, because he didn't do the right thing. (And watching the Jan 6th violence at our Capitol for hours, like it was entertaining.)

LeslieN's avatar

I can't believe that there's not an existing plan in place since WWII that would have already handled the possibility of this occurring again in our lifetime. And could bring it to an abrupt halt. And spare us all this insanity. Anyone?

Outdoorluvr's avatar

Could be wrong here, but wasn't that part of the point of forming NATO?

Lynn Preis's avatar

Stephen Miller is evil incarnate.

We made progress today, folks. Indivisible members along with others quietly protested Avelo Airlines throughout the country for months. Avelo was transporting immigrants to camps or out of the country. Today, the airlines stopped their contract with DHS & ICE! Also, Spotify had a deal with ICE that they could advertise for officers on their shows. Tons of people cancelled their subscriptions. Spotify did not renew its contract with ICE! These are wins that must be embraced. AND TODAY: Democrats and Republicans in the HOUSE voted to extend ACA subsidies and benefits. It now goes to the Senate where everyone hope it passes. The officer who shot Renee Nicole Good has been ID’d and he will be charged with murder, in my opinion. Stuff is happening and the walls are falling apart.

Miller, the Jewish Nazi, along with his equally crazy big mouth wife and their friend, Laura Loomer, can go straight to hell. People have had enough of their garbage, Trump’s, Vought’s, Musk’s, Jared’s, Bibi’s, Moses J, Ms. Lindsay, and all the rest of ‘em too! WHEN WE FIGHT…WE WN!

Apparently, trump has handed the reins of his “presidency” over to yet another psychologically damaged ghoul, in the form of Stephen Miller. They’re oddly similar in regard to their breathtaking ignorance about the US and the world.

The one difference between the two is that Miller never got over having his lunch money stolen in grade school, whereas trump was the thug who stole others’ lunch money in grade school.

What a tag team.

Bern's avatar

Miller, terrified by chalk on the sidewalk. No wonder he wants everyone else terrified, kowtowing or dead.

The arrogance of these Christofascists to think we are untouchable. Warfare is changing. We are less safe each day they are in power. 2026 is going to be a bloody year. When will enough Rs in the House and Senate go Independent and caucus with the Ds to put an end to this insanity?

Stephen Miller has delusions of grandeur. Who did Nazi that coming?

William (Bill) McGuire's avatar

OMG! Stephen Miller, the guy whom all in classes with him in college despised him is getting his revenge, isn't he? I keep waiting for NATO to boot us out of their group.....The UN, too. We are becoming the "guest" NOBODY wants coming around the neighborhood. The invasion into Venezuela was a shot across the bow of the EU, and they best be prepared to go it alone with respect to fighting off Putin with Ukraine being the present target. As far as Greenland goes, I expect the EU will back up Denmark, as will Canada, and tell trump & his apes to stay the hell away. I am somewhat hopeful after Thursday's voting results for the 3yr extension of the ACA healthcare for people. That is a biggie. I am an Army Veteran & every day I cross my fingers that my VA healthcare continues to aid me. Where will this all end??? That depends on the Supreme Court, imho, and in the Senate & the Congress. If the Republicans can gird up their better selves, perhaps we have a chance to survive all of this. If not, bleak times are in the offing. I yield back my time.

The 6 members of the Supreme Farce need to be getting a whole lot of mail.

Why would we want to take over Greenland? We can’t even handle Puerto Rico.

All we need is a treaty with Denmark relating to the exploitation of Greenland’s minerals.

Life's Rich Bouquet's avatar

Its about control, as much as minerals. If Miller can get up on CNN and state “Nobody's going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland”, the message is about control. A power-grab. Miller doesn't give a rat's ass about NATO. Using NATO to justify 'taking' Greenland is just a smokescreen- it has little if anything to do with national interests. It's about strongarm tactics.

Hope Lindsay's avatar

Apparently, Denmark has authorized its military to shoot at any adversaries in Greenland.

lauriemcf's avatar

I would like to see all of NATO react if the US tries to take Greenland.

patricia's avatar

yes we need someone to kick our ass...we can't do it ourselves apparently

Bern's avatar

I think Miller is correct when he said no one will fight a war with the US over Greenland. Thing is, the US has close-to free rein of it already, for keeping watch on the evil commies* 'cross the pond...

*whose leader is our** best friend and fluffer...

Outdoorluvr's avatar

Agree. NATO isn't going to put any troops up against its most powerful member (U.S.), even if that member doesn't believe in the core mission of NATO.

Irenie's avatar

“What if they gave a war and nobody came?” It’s poetry with multiple poets cited. And a dangerous idea. No more comment needed. Look it up.

Well that was interesting! So it was Carl Sandburg in his 1936 poem? I thought it was from the 1960s. Why a "dangerous idea" in the here and now?

Because it is losing its ice and that makes it easier yo dig ip its resources and leave nice dry prime real estate do the rich poisoning America will gave s nice pleasant place to avoid the scalding heat in America. All those regulations Ttump lifted will create toxic hell but ge eill build golf courses in nice cool Greenland and/or Canada. He thinks.

Bobbie Barnes's avatar

Discounting what Miller is saying is a mistake. Trump isn’t content with being President. He wants to be an emperor, and he couldn’t care less about the lives of the people in the countries he wants to control (or our country, for that matter). There are already Republicans Senators and Representatives that are cheering him on, thinking flexing the U.S. might and stealing resources makes us stronger. The problem is that Trump is unable to plan for long term outcomes. Taking Greenland by bribery or force would be a crisis for and possibly an end to NATO, a dream of Putin’s. Trump’s imperialistic goals are a huge danger to world order, and that is frightening indeed.

Josef and Magda Göbbels….

Let’s get to the part where Mrs. Miller inserts a cyanide capsule into the mouths of her sleeping children, then lovingly and tenderly uses their own jaws to crunch them open.

Grotesque but appropriate. The Millers are two people who not only never should’ve been born, for the good of humanity, but the fact that they are working on their fourth little Nazi is actually repulsive. How perfect it was though that two of the most ugly, hateful, nasty people in the world found each other. I do pity their children though, as their parents are both hideous, monstrous people who are undoubtedly going to have fairly short lives. Theirs is a kind of hubris just begging for quick, brutal ends.

lauriemcf's avatar

Miller's family has disowned him. He is a hateful and pathetic little man with power. As he talks faster and faster his voice gets louder and more higher pitched, shrill, hysterical, and whiny -- sometimes it appears he will send himself into orbit.

Denise's avatar

Lololol you are so right! I just pictured it in my head and really laughed. He’s like a helium balloon shooting into the air, circling and squealing as it gets higher and higher, as he spews more and more and more hatred into the atmosphere. I mean, it’s horrific, but it just struck me as funny for a minute. His giant head deflating as he squeaks faster and faster and faster. 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈
